Criticizing Tinubu as the president! by Nnamdipapa(op):
I noticed a trend in Nigeria politisphere and I want to create a space for discussion. I know we are a deeply tribalistic society but everything does not have to be tainted with lenses of tribalism.

Everywhere in the world, president's and head of states are constantly criticized and insulted and, we all know it is nothing new.
You need to see where Americans insult Biden, Trump and Canadians, Trudeau.

Even in Nigeria, Jonathan was constantly derided and called derogatory names but Bayelsians did not take this as a tribal insult.
I believe if you are averse to criticism, stay away from politics, it's that simple.

Now, to the cruz of the reason for this thread, why does an average Yoruba feel criticizing Tinubu is tantamount to a tribal insult to the Yoruba race? Can someone please explain to me?

Why make the criticizing of a president a tribal affair or why feel insulted anytime the president is criticized or insulted.

Did you feel the same when Jonathan was branded " drunken fisherman from Otuoke" or are you surprised the president is criticized?

Stop making the criticizing of the president a tribal event and the reason why I picked BAT is because, he is the sitting president.

Both tribes insult each other na. Why do I sense hypocrisy here. Do you feel the same when your tribe insult the Igbos?

I opened the thread to get the views of others and perhaps, educate your co-travellers. I also opened the thread because I can.

Take it easy and do not take tribal insults personal as they are mere online rants.
I have maximum respect for the Yorubas and you will never find me insulting the tribe. If you insult my tribe, who fvucking cares!

By the way, I am not "oga" as I will be 18 this year.

You see that your "average"? To me it screams ignorance, and is an attempt to hide your own bigotry that you are trying to impose on others as if there aren't many Yorubas not only criticising Tinubu but daily insulting and heaping curses on his head.

Be Obidient! Vote for Obi! I am Yoruba.

Go check my footprints and you will see me criticizing Obi several times.

I would have executed Nnamdi Kanu if I were Buhari.

I despise Ojukwu for the Biafra war and, have been vocal about it as an ardent student of history.

You see where I am coming from?

Not everyone is a tribal bigot like you brah!

You are Yoruba not because of any effort you made, only because you were born into the tribe. Had it been you were born to a family in Ghana, you will be a Ghanian today. Tribalism is stupid to me and I see no sense in it.

Not every Yoruba is a tribal bigot neither, and there is nothing called an "average Yoruba" or Igbo or Hausa or etc, since everyone is unique.

"Averge" is a statistical term?

Do you have a problem with statistics?

The reason Obi won in Lagos was because I lot of Yorubas voted for him. I understand that facts reason I used the term " average".

Perhaps I will change it to "average on Nairaland"

You have not done any statistical analysis to enable you to use that term!

And even "average on Nairaland" is false, and is the sort of language used by a bigot.

Just think. Despite your seeming non-yoruba monicker, how are we certain you are not Yoruba?

And how can you therefore conclude that a seemingly Yoruba monicker is a Yoruba person?

You are wrapped up in confusion brah and I will try my best to provide valuable education to you are your ilks.

I am Igbo and it does not matter what my moniker says. What matters is there is no way you can disprove my claims of being an Igbo.

OK, let's play your game. You are a Fulani!

Also, you accused me of tribal bigotry and you are totally wrong? I find no meaning in tribalism and it has never made sense to me.
You can pull up my history and you will see nothing that supports your conclusions of tribal bigotry.

Not everyone is like you brah and you need to change.

Now, my dear Budaatum, how do you feel when people from other tribe criticize Tinubu? Do you see that as a tribal slur?

The tribe of the criticizer is irrelevant if Tinubu does bad and deserves criticism. And a slur or insult or whatever against and about Tinubu does not in any way affect budaatum.

If you catch a Yoruba thief in Onitsha market, you will not put tyre and pour petrol and light match on buda because buda is Yoruba. Unless you are an ignorant bigoted fuq, of course.

And for your information, a slur against budaatum on Nairaland is not seen by budaatum as a slur against budaatum. At best, is just the slurrer sitting somewhere making crap up about the buda they know nothing about, (just as you have accused me of doing about you, note).

Is " deserving of criticism" Not a subjective contraption?

If you feel, he is not deserving of criticism and, the other guy feels otherwise, does it make it a tribal affair?

Are you going to teach people how to criticize their president? Don't you realize, for the most part, emotions play a major part in criticisms?

Any comment by a subject is subjective.

Nnamdipapa:
If you feel, he is not deserving of criticism and, the other guy feels otherwise, does it make it a tribal affair?
Of course it doesn't make it a tribal affair! I after all do find Yoruba me criticizing Tinubu to Yoruba people who defend him. Hence my criticism of your "average".

Why blame criticism, or support for that matter, on tribalism if your own perspective is not tribal?

Nnamdipapa:
Are you going to teach people how to criticize their president? Don't you realize, for the most part, emotions play a major part in criticisms?
I'm obviously not "going to teach people how to criticize their president". He's their president, they can go murder him for all I care, though I'd rather they got off their asses and elect a better president at the next opportunity.

And no, I don't realise that for the most part, "emotions play", since I'm fully aware that many ignorantly choose whom they voted for, and selfishly stupidly collected ₦x000 to vote for the president, or didn't even bother voting at all so the current president won, etc. I'd say ignorance played a more major part, but put that down to my very subjective opinion since I have not done statistics on the matter.

I am an expert on the topic as I was fully immersed in both the Igbo and Yoruba cutures all through my life hence, I find it difficult to be tribalistic.

It is normal for people to criticisize a sitting president. It may not always be a tribal event and YES!, other tribes are allowed to criticise the president too. It happens a lot in democracies.

On NL , I have seen both Igbos and Yorubas insults each other's tribes and nothing new even though I do not support.

Boy, I am still waiting for your debate. Don't try to run. Enough of all this egotism. You want to revise history because Tinubu is being criticized for pulling down the whole building and rendering the whole family homeless because he intends to build a five-star mansion without thinking or planning any survival strategy for the family in raining seasons and harmattan. Nigerians are dying and you are coming up with a ten year survival strategy. I ask for who after most people who voted for him must have joined their ancestors.

People should not be lumped together I agree. I have lots of Yorubas who supported Tinubu.

"Drunken fisherman from Otuoke" was used by lots of Yorubas during GEJ regime.
By mentioning of Otuoke, his tribe was equally dragged and people from Bayelsa and Otuoke did not complain.

Even Tinubu does not respond to insults and criticism right from his days as a governor. Both sides always insults each other and nothing new.
Go to a thread where a crime by an Igbo or Yoruba dude and, you will see the entire tribes being insulted and denigrated, nothing new tbh.

Who are those who called GEJ all those names? It's on record that when I first became active on this forum, GEJ was the president and I supported his government even though I didn't buy into his reelection.

Let's be realistic here, Is it only the Yoruba's the some Igbo's have been attacking unnecessary?

APC insulted Jona as the " Drunken fisherman man from Otuoke"

Was that a complementary remark to Otuoke, as being used in reference to Jona or not?

Can you tell people how to critic a president? Like, you have a form of control over them?

I need your kind answers to the above?

But it isn't another man's fight!

Since it has to do with Nigeria as a whole, it's every Nigerians fight regardless of tribe or tongue, an observation Tinubu himself has made, and which is one reason I criticise him much less than I otherwise might have.
