What value is the little you are talking about?
Are insinuating 100-200k can give enjoyable life in Nigeria? How much is the phone you are using? For 200k earner how many months will it take him/her to buy grade or even lower of phone you are holding. We are in big mess in this country.
If he feels Nigeria is heaven relative to USA he should be relocate without wasting of time
Read what I wrote well. The 100k ( less expenses) is daily not monthly. You think it’s Eldorado anywhere? No, it’s not.
Nigeria that you can even buy land for 500k in some places and dig bore hole and sell water from the same land to recover your money in less than a year.
Where else can you do that.

Oga don't generalize things based on assumption. A lot of those guys driving luxurious cars worked hard for their money. They are not criminals

Yes Lagos is full of both public and private exploiters truly but the island is a sharp contrast to the dirty life of the mainlanders!

Then it is culture shock not cultural shock!

If you want to enjoy living in Lagos , you have to be selective and this requires you should be rich not an average citizen

Oga, You have not been to Ibadan City recently.

I will write an article on Ibadan, very soon.

Ibadan has moved from "B" grade to "A" grade.

The street lights, infrastructure, security and social life has improved within one (1) year exponentially.

I fully endorse Ibadan as the next most cosmopolitan axis outside Lagos.

Good stuff Governor Seyi Makinde.

So people don't pass on assets in US

Everyone in US is in debt

So why are people japa there and their citizens are not relocating out too

Mtchew
You too young to know. I will explain to you.

Passing on properties is a financial burden. Most times the next of kin sells it off because of tax implications. I am talking about the super rich, I am talking about average Americans, and that’s even when the mortgage has been totally paid off. In cases when it has not been paid off, the next of kin sells it off and takes the equity.

How many Americans can show you their great grand father and father’s house which is a norm in Nigeria.

You can NEVER thrive in the US without debt. It’s the system! The likes of Donald Trump and Elon Musk thrive on it.

You don't have sense, people have legit businesses and money in this country, saying most are proceeds of scam reflex your family and upbring sense, poverty has dealt with your generation so bad you think everything is scam, there is money in Lagos if you don't know

And how many assets do you own?

Most of these comparisons are lopsided. Comparing the absolute worst in the West with the financially buoyant in Nigeria.

If you cannot compare the poor in Naija with the equivalent poor in the US and do these with rich as well. Then you’ve indirectly made the point that the West is better, while trying to prove the opposite.

Tell me your economic status in Nigeria and I’ll show you that your equivalent in America is better off.
The west is better but to an extent. The richer you become, the more financial burden you will have, which is not guaranteed to survive after your demise.

Let me explain to you in lay terms. Let’s imagine your child is inheriting a 500k property. Coupled with his own tax burden, he is only adding to it even when the house is fully paid off but has an advantage if using it for business. In cases where the house is paid off, most sell it off cos it becomes a liability. The system was designed that way.

Yeah.
I understand people that want to japa o.
But i still think Nigeria is one of the best countries to make it in.
Services are soo cheap. But there are other disadvantages sha.
Cheap for those not within the minimum wage bracket or earning below 200 Dollars per month.

A minimum wage earner in Canada or America can feed himself and at least one family member comfortably... Can the same be said for a minimum wage worker in Nigeria?!!

Those who make such glancing and poorly thought out statements like you are shockingly few and privileged.

Imagine a nation where over 60% of their population struggle terribly to feed!

Is that what you call cheap?!!

You can still get half plot for 500k inside ikorodu area. You are investing to sell water not to go to school and hospital.

How many gun violence or mass murders has Nigeria experienced in 2025? Can we start the comparison from m there?

US population is just 50m ahead of Nigeria if I am right. So what are you talking about.

While people may legitimately disagree with the above poster's other comments (about car purchases through fraud etc.), the bit stated above is true. It is accurate. There are a few (very few!) oases of order and tranquility here and there but most of Lagos is exactly as described above.

Lagos isn't Parkview or Banana Island. It is Ijora Badia. It is Bariga. It is Amukoko. It is Agarawu. It is Idi-Araba. It is Mushin. It is Agege. These places are the 'real' Lagos.
