2027: Northern Leaders Spreading Falsehood – Kwankwaso by Edygrin(op): 7:06am On Jan 05, 2025
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, and former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has accused some Northern leaders of spreading falsehood.

He said the leaders were interfering in the selection of candidates, particularly in the presidential election.

Kwankwaso said it was wrong for such people to claim they represent the region.

The presidential candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 general elections said that their action was causing division and hindering democracy by electing leaders who were not qualified.

Kwankwaso, who stated this in an interview with BBC Hausa, said that events that unfolded in the previous elections should make the leaders refrain from anything related to the selection of candidates and allow the people to choose who they really want to be president.

This oppressive thing they are doing is causing discord in the community. Whatever you do, do it based on the truth.

The elders, some of them are our parents and some of them are brothers, especially in this area, here in the north, they shouldn’t show favouritism in bringing out candidates,” he said.

According to him, many of them come to spread lies, gather people, and tell them that the North has agreed on its candidates.

All these people are not more than two or three, but you see a man going and saying lies, instead of going to Port Harcourt or going to Abuja to go and promote us, who are their children, but then they go and show favouritism,” he added.

He also denied rumours making the rounds that an agreement had been reached between him and the former presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar of PDP and Peter Obi of LP, that each of them will be president for a term.

He said he was not aware of such arrangements, even though he learnt that the Atiku group was holding meetings with local leaders, including Mallams, ahead of 2027.

This issue really hurts me. It is said that the elders are lying; they are saying things that have not been done.

I was told that about forty-five Mallams were gathered, and they are telling the people. But there is no such thing. I am not at all happy about this thing.

They were told that I agreed that Atiku will serve for four years, I will also serve for four, and Peter Obi will serve for eight years. This pact does not exist; it has not been made,” Kwankwaso said.

Why are some northerners so obsessed with the presidency? When they were in power Banditry, illiteracy, hunger,Kidnapping thrived. Jonathan did more for the North than Buhari.

Northerners should focus on aggressively developing their region to catch up with the rest of the world, let other regions bring fresh ideas to the presidency. Right now the post is a curse to the North.

Classic Northern Nigerian political drama! Kwankwaso is here playing the righteous victim card, pointing fingers at "elders" and accusing them of spreading lies and showing favoritism. But isn’t this the same Kwankwaso who knows how to navigate the murky waters of power dynamics when it suits him? Duplicitous much?

He’s upset that some elders are "spreading lies" and meddling in candidate selection—fair point. But let’s not forget, these same power plays have been the bread and butter of Northern politics for decades. The "elders" he’s criticizing? Probably his allies in another context. It’s like being mad at the game while playing it yourself.

And the bit about "agreements" with Atiku and Obi? Denying it so strongly almost makes it seem like there’s more to it. After all, Nigerian politics thrives on backdoor deals and alliances that conveniently get disowned when exposed.

In the end, it’s all noise. The same accusations, the same cycle of power struggles, and the same tired script where nobody takes responsibility for anything but everyone claims to have the people’s best interests at heart. Northern politics: where duplicity meets drama, and the people are left to deal with the fallout.

Kwankwaso is pained that he wasn't among the chosen one in the north.

Whenever the election calendar begins to draw near, you'll see this "One State Politician" granting unnecessary media interviews everywhere, throwing baseless accusations and jabs at everyone.

I'm still yet to understand Kwankwaso's brand of politics that has seen his relevance being confined to Kano state, yet he talks tough as if Kano state alone can make him President.

Them no dey advise the werey for that state?

The insidious "power play" for Federal control among the different ethnoregional "power centers" in that country is something else. To avoid being consumed by unintended consequences from these vicious power plays, the best bet is to urgently further decentralize Nigeria like you have in many countries in Europe and elsewhere to allow each region to be self-governing and develop based off of it's socioeconomic ecosystem (to avoid this ridiculous crab mentality). From my vast economic analyses over the years, all parts of Nigeria have massive human and material resources to become innovative global and regional players. Period.

That’s what makes JAGABAN the god of Politics. Say less, observe more. Even during election campaigns, he attended only one interview while others were jumping from one Media house to the other

This man is really pained but it's understandable

If this permutation he stated flies it means Atiku will go for 4 hrs then Obi goes for 8years before it gets to his 4 years. By then he would be over 80years old and weak.

Anytime we talk of Nigeria being bad, you are part of the cause. You now hail a president that fails to speak to the people as a master strategy? We are all supposed to follow along to a man who failed to talk to us like zombie?

You are wired to be in a monarch system where a king rules unchallenged and the king does no wrong.

Useless people. Instead of them to focus more on how to educate all the almajiri children littering northern states and joining banditry and Boko Haram , no, all they want is to arrogate power to themselves with the born to rule mentality. Bunch of failed leaders!

Because after the 1966 counter coup, when they exacted their revenge and wanted to seperate from Nigeria, the British advised them that can you not see what Ironsi has done for you with the unification decree? The country now belongs to you. Since then they have moved from a region that was afraid to be part of Nigeria to a region that feels it is it’s right to rule Nigeria.

He is seeing himself as too important. Only with his 1M votes and has this pride.

It's funny the level of illiteracy and dumbness that reigns in the north. This herd mentality that makes some gworo munching, braindead mallam be the one to tell people who to vote and who not to vote means the north is still 100 years behind in every index of human development
