Things are generally becoming expensive day by day and poultry sales business just seem to be one of the affected. Transportation his also affected it getting expensive only that most people can't do without it, maybe the authorities can introduced subsidized teleportation for the... at least if we are spending more money we should not be spending more time in traffic as well, losing time & money his probably what his called double wahala.

.....................

Life his such as some are marring to divorce why some are doing child marriage and so such his life: you either do what pays you or pay what do you.

Chicken 40k, is it a goat? 🤣🤣🤣
Inflation, subsidy, rise in cost of everything also affected sales of chicken feed. Salaries of people working in poultry and raising chicken also had to increase because inflation had gulped whatever they were being paid before

The poultry farmers are very greedy. How could they put a hefty price tag of 40-50k on a chicken? That's way too much

Some of you are amusing with your ignorant takes.

You expect a poultry farmer to buy a bag of feed for 24K as against the 4K it sold for within the same period in 2023, and still go ahead to sell a chicken for 8K to you?

Una own na to open mouth waa for Internet dey vomit rubbish!

Nigeria does not follow basic principles of Economics

Chicken is Expensive because people are over demanding it.
Basic law of demand means the higher the demand the higher the price

Meaning if people reduce Thier demands two things will happen, either the process and export or they bring down Thier price.

Or only them chop am

When a poultry farmer intends to sell a broiler at 25k, I want you to believe me that he has already spent over 20k on that broiler! We're raising broilers in my house for our own consumption and the cost of raising one for additional three months (one month with those who raised them from day old, sold at 4k per one) is always around 20k. A bag of 25kg is now above 25k

The way some people overprice some market commodities are really annoying even common day-to-day household needs are unimaginable in Emilokan era in spite of the high inflation sellers should consider how many prospective buyers have the commensurate means.

Let's face it, whatever situation happening in d land will go round. Inflation happened, subsidy removal happened, salary earners asked for 100% increase rightly so, cost of other goods rose by more than 100%, u do not think the cost of baby chick, chicken feeds, salary, energy, medications, other operational costs incurred by poultry farmers also increased at a very significant rate? It's a business for them too.

Chicken feed sold for 5k before now 25k. Other expenses that go into raising a bird rose at similar rate, transportation, immunization, medication, even salaries for big poutry farms. But u expect the chicken u used to buy for 10k to be sold at what price exactly? Tell us the price u expect them to sell

Lol. And you think those farmers preferred not to sell their chickens if they can't sell at higher price but preferred spending additional money to feed them after the festive period? grin grin
My point is that they are not intentionally selling at higher price, it is not about the law of demand and supply as their are no even enough demand as it clearly stated in the report.
I don't understand why guys are commenting like you don't even know that prices of everything, cost of doing business has skyrocketed under Tinubu. In fact right now in Nigeria, farmers should quit poultry business

Re: Unsold Stock: Poultry Farmers Lament Massive Loss by MasterTeeUSA: 2:56pm On Jan 05, 2025
Not surprised. Even my Mom that usually raise 50 opted for 30 this year, and to relieve the stress...I offtake and we share to families and friends as part of the NGO End of Year Giving.

No point trying to convince her to stop. She has been raising chickens for over 40yrs. She even planted cassava and made garri and pap out of it. By the way she is 75, and still supervises my site work everyday as needed and teaches at Sunday School.

So when you hear urgent 2k people complaining, I just shake my head. Things won't get easier as it is a worldwide issue now. The sooner we realize this and buckle up, the better. Even those in the US are lamenting, shops closing up...and the only silver lining. Thanksgiving, people and NGOs give out Turkeys and some schools give our food groceries occassionally.

Do you run poultry business?
Yes

Before APC came in though

But in December, did you heard of price increase of feeds and drug's?

Late November, chicken was sold for 14k

Early to mid week December, chicken was sold for 15k and then all of a sudden approaching the Yuletide weeks the price skyrocketed from 15 to 25 and from 25 to 35k?

Bro let's be honest here, sometimes we are our own enemies.

These same kind of people are the exact same kind of politicians we complain about.

Or how will it be, if these same farmers were elected to represent us as politicians?

Thank God for wisdom. A friend told me to restart my broiler production but I told him the economics does not make sense, where is the Market? Who will buy? This was October last year. I told him we stopped producing when the price of one kilo of maize jumped over ₦450. Because how does one make their food if maize alone become so high. Even if you can make their food, after feeding them for 6weeks, who will buy at ₦20k, not to talk of the price of ₦35k now. The economics does not make sense. The only way forward is CNG for trucks, to bring down the cost of transportation of the maize, so that we can make feeds cheaper, and the chicken too becomes cheaper in the market

Nigeria is THE ONLY country on earth where citizens are struggling to eat. Even in Yemen and Afghanistan, people eat better. Think about it: protein is practically out of the reach of most Nigerians at the moment. Egg, meat, fish, milk.....all these are luxury these days. No thanks to the avoidable hardship foisted on Nigerians by our current government.
if they send u to Afghanistan or Yemen now u will start begging abike dabiri to bring u back

@bolded, think It's specifically the broilers (ie the big white ones). I really cant understand the rush for them.

For instance I was still able to get brown layers for as low as 8-9k, And if you combine up to 3 of them, I can tell for a fact you'll get far more meat than those broilers going for 25-30k.
