The write up here is not complete enough for reasons best known to the writer or whoever forwarded the post,I know this because I have read a more detailed n explicit report on this same topic by the same NEFA through this same AM DAGASHA whom I believe is the retired air force general,in that report,the NEF gave a very detailed response which I think is worth considering,to the best of my mind the position or suggestions of the NEF wouldn't work against the interest of the south at all but rather simply open up the revenue base of the north in the estimation of the NEF, specifically the north want cows to be VATable,they don't want inheritance to be subject to VAT etc,I do not think these are against the interest of the south,the south can as well request for such agricultural consumables like Palm oil, plantains,kolanuts etc to be VATable also simple,but I'm fully in support of VAT been based on contributory efforts,let the bills be stand down for now so that new emerging facts can be incorporated into it for final passage to the satisfaction of all,that would just be fair enough.

Firstly, the tax reform is the real restructuring where every region or state will be tax according to how they are productive, generative of stuffs. And these will make the leaders compete to make their regions economic viable by even attracting investors themselves there by even creating jobs.

Secondly the reason you see these northern elders and leaders uniting against it is because their lazy ass just want to keep collecting from the Federal government allocation and engulfing it. That's why the poverty in the North because their people don't even hold the northern leaders in the North responsible.

Inheritance tax is not VAT able. There is nothing like that in the bill.
Inheritance tax is a personal income tax and therefore a Subnational issue. States will collect it
Any Northern state that does not wish to collect it can omit it
That should not apply across the country especially since it is being pushed on religious grounds.
No one came to this world with anything and so when they die their wealth should be taxable.

What many of you fail to realize is that the VAT has already been determined by the court. It is a state tax.
That court judgment was a response to a constitutional inquiry by Rivers State government. That judgment has not been overturned and so it is the status quo

All the legislation about VAT is a waste of time if that judgment is not overturned by the Supreme Court
What that means is even if the law is passed. Rivers state can approach the Supreme court to repeal THOSE PARTS of the law that have to do with VAT

Tinubu must already know this and is just allowing the North to deceive themselves. He is more interested in the other parts of the bills because the VAT matter is ALREADY SETTLED. It is a state tax 100%

Nigeria cannot remain underdeveloped forever. Tinubu government is the only government that started infrastructure project weeks after assumption of office. This is despite a budget where 97% is committed to servicing debt with fiscal and monetary crisis. There is change of currency, cashless policy and backlog of foreign currency to be paid to Airlines and multinationals. We buy =N=5,000 cash with transfer or ATM withdrawal of =N=8,000 from POS operators. You queue for hours to withdraw 2K or 5K from Banks. There was riots in some towns in South South and South West where Banks are burnt.

The Northern Elders Forum did not say anything. Till date, the Northern Elders Forum didn't ask questions on how $27 billion was left in treasury with only about $6 billion accessible to a country with population of over 200 million people and some debts matured and awaited to be serviced.

They don't want tax but they want oil money. If the oil money ceases everybody will find it's way out

Debate and consultations are done in the National Assembly.
Military regime approach to formulating decrees is what these people are asking for. Totally backwards and they are employing BLACKMAIL.
The national Assembly should open the floors for debate. Simple matter, but those who want nothing done, " maintain status quo" are screaming.

Let me explain one additional point
If a bill is withdrawn from the National Assembly without scaling the 2nd reading that means it cannot be reintroduced in the lifetime of that Assembly.

Which means if the bill had been withdrawn it was effectively killed till 2027.

Everybody knows this game/ They played it with the Petrol Industry Act but won't succeed with this one.
