It’s 2025, and I’m still being rejected from renting apartments because, to some Yoruba landlords, everyone from the South-South and Southeast is considered Igbo and therefore ineligible. Even my Omoluabi heritage as an Itsekiri makes no difference.

Personally, those type of houses are problematic.


Either the landlord lives there or meddles in the affairs of tenants. Why else would a tenant's background matter if you will just take his/her money for a space?

Gossip or association has to be involved for a tenant's background to be a factor.

Itsekiris who are related to urhobos by marriage will refuse to allow an urhobo get a Chevron job and give same job to Yoruba thinking those are their brothers. They are only if ignorant of the true behavior of a Yoruba man

A prospective tenant will not determine who a landlord should rent his property to.

If you don't meet his requirement, look elsewhere.
