The Difference Amongst Yoruba, Edekiri and Ijebu People

Nobody is Yoruba by tribe or ethnicity. The word 'Yoruba' is a made up word that did not exist until Bishop Samuel Ajayi-Crowther introduced it. It is a corruption of a Fulani word, and if I say the meaning of that word, I may offend my readers. So I will hold my peace.

The real name of the people wrongly called Yoruba is Edekiri. And they were like the ancient Israelites, in that the Edekiri had tribes of which Egba, Owu, Oyo, Igbomina, Ilaje, Ekiti, Awori, Ikare, Igala (yes, it will surprise you to note that Igala are Edekiri) and several other tribes.

Another thing that may surprise you is that Ijebu are not Yoruba (Edekiri). They have their distinct origin, which goes back to the biblical kingdom of Jebu, which you can find in Scripture.

Yorubas should be very careful with contents from Mr. Reno Omokri. He has his agendas.

He blocks people with factual and superior arguments. He also tries to manipulate opinions.

He was shown the use of word "Yoruba" before Ajayi Crowder but instead of acknowledgement, he blocked the person.

Also, Ijebu people have nothing to do with Jebusites of the Bible, there is only a similarity in numenclature. This is the same mistake the Ibos are doing by calling themselves lost tribe of Israel. It is ridiculous to try to attach by force to another people without historical or DNA evidence.

We believe Itsekiri is a high quality Yoruba tribe; Same way we have Ondo, Oyo, Egba e.t.c but trying to force the name Lukumi on Yoruba is something else.
