I see you're sharing your experiences with food prices in Russia and how you’re making the most of student discounts. But I can’t help but notice the comparison to Naira prices. While I get the temptation to convert everything into Naira for familiarity, it’s important to remember that the Russian economy doesn’t operate in Naira, and their prices are set in rubles based on their own local market conditions.

Converting foreign prices into Naira might give a sense of how expensive things are, but it can also create a skewed perspective. The reality is, what you’re spending in Russia is relevant to your local context there. It’s all about adjusting to the economic environment you’re in. For example, food prices and overall living expenses in Russia might be more affordable for some when you consider the ruble’s value and the cost of living in relation to local income.

While it’s common for people to compare costs between currencies, especially in a place with economic challenges like Nigeria, sometimes the habit of constantly converting prices into Naira can reflect a deeper sense of scarcity or poverty mentality. It’s not necessarily about being wrong, but more about adjusting the mindset and recognizing that in other countries, the cost of living is based on different economic realities. You’re in Russia, so think of your expenses in rubles and adjust accordingly!

Also, it’s great that your church pastor is supporting you with food staples. That kind of community support is priceless, especially when you're living abroad.
You actually said nothing with all the long epistle. It's normal for anyone to compare the value of his purchase with his local currency. Americans, Europeans and Asians alike all do it. Why attack Nigerians who do it. If you have problem with it then you can travel and forget about naira equivalent when making purchases.

No importer can import when you are not able to equate the value of the commodity you are importing with your local currency. Haba

I already have a Russian passport. I've been in and out of Russia multiple times. I can go whenever I want, it is my home.

You're so brainwashed in the head that you think all 145 million Russians are fighting in Ukraine.

You probably sit and watch CNN 24/7 like a propagandized zombie.

You really think North Korean troops are there because of shortage of Russian troops?? Damn there's no saving you

Russia has around 1.5 million troops. 800k are in the newly annexed territories. 700k are in Russia. Zelensky himself confirmed this.

But in your small mind it is the 5000 North Korean troops that will make the difference? You're a fvcking dummy

Even South Korean officials are now reporting that the North Korean troops are there to gain combat experience in a real war. They haven't fought a war in decades.
Go and fight my brother. For the love of Russia. cheesy

It is not every country in the world you need to migrate. Some are only good for a visit, Russia is one of them.

Russia is like 16th-century Europe. Forget about what WriterNg does here with his propaganda. China is 1000 years ahead of Russia, even South Africa.
He should forget about what WriterNg does here with propaganda and accept your own propaganda right?......hilarious. grin grin grin.

2 Turkey laps 0.6kg 2,000 naira (146 rubles)

Pork meat 0.6 kg 3,300 naira (236 rubles) Pork is actually pretty expensive. High demand I guess. Also from my last post some people were annoyed that I eat pork which is strange grin. 'beef' is a god in one country. Besides here in the cold, meat, especially pork is vital for survival. smiley

Sea food (Mature Squid about four) 303 rubles (4,250 naira)

Total of about 9,500 Naira. However I paid only about 9,000 naira for these items because like I mentioned earlier, some stores offer discount for students if you carry your student Identification card with you.

You might be wondering if I only want to eat meat or why I don't buy other things. Well my church pastor who is obviously a Russian often sends us (African students) food items like rice, potatoes and spices so I hardly buy these items. tongue Also we tend to buy potatoes collectively in large quantities during summer when it is even much cheaper.

Happy new year Nairalanders.

Shout-out to my Nairalanders of the year

4,200 naira per kilo is extremely cheap, but our people don't really fancy pork meat.

RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA!

Slava Rossiya 🇷🇺 🇷🇺 🐻 ❤️

The west hates this beautiful country because they have an abundance of every mineral resources you can think of. They call Putin a dictator because he refused to give these resources out to them for FREE, like past Russian leaders did.

Russia is self sufficient and will be for at least another 900 years.

I will love Russia until the day that I die. God Bless Russia 🇷🇺
I am yet to find a Single Western Leader (and apart from President Xi Chin Pin of China), who is as Intelligent, Patriotic and Brave, as President Putin.
Russia is a "Federation" of so many "Republics", so diverse in Culture, and Religion yet, Putin has managed to give everyone a sense of identity, unlike the Rogues ruling Nigeria since independence.
My Prayer is that Russia will find another good Leaderlike him, who will take over from him, as he is not getting Younger.

God Bless Putin, God Bless Russian Federation

I wonder why Nigerian Leaders are unable to tap into Russian Resources, like Egypt where Russia is building a Nuclear Power Plant for them, to solve their Electricity Needs, once and for all?
Instead, we are romancing failed Leaders in France!

You obviously have not travelled far or you just watch only Western TV Stations like CNN, BBC, EuroNews and Fox.
Try and Watch alternative Stations like Russian Television (RT), Chinese Stations (CGTN), Press TV, etc

But l understand, the Western Cable Networks that most of you watch, only serves Western Channels to you, for Free!

I would not want to be brainwashed. Those channels are from the Axis of evil. They serve their political interest, nothing more.
In fact, watching those channels is like watching Aljazerra. Watching Aljazerra for 2 days alone can make someone to carry a suicide belt to kill for unjust reason.
You can't compare the western media with these authoritarian states television.
You can come to CNN and BBC and criticise a government, but you can't try that on Russian, Chinese, or Iranian TV. So who's afraid in this context now.
