Is consumption tax suppose to go towards a consumer or the host of the producer? Think of it, the host of the producer and the producer are the ones who need to be incentivised to keep production, which is the bedrock of any economic system, going. The logic of those demanding consumption tax be based on who consumes what, originates from cries about those who reject alcohol consumption but accept its taxes. The host to the producer and the producer are the ones who between themselves sacrificed and toiled to add value to raw inputs. Such sacrifices include loss of land, culture, pollution and degradation of environment, security to producers and off-takers of finished goods. The consumer is already enjoying what he is paying for 100% as long as he or she agrees to buy and consume, so needs no additional incentive to keep consuming. Nobody buys things to support the producer but to meet their own personal needs and i see no sensible explanation for paying your customer when it was your customer who covered the cost of production and your own profit in the first place.

So, we should pay VAT to China for imported goods or Aba trader that imported or the user? Who do we pay for petrleum products?? The host community or the pump station location? Your thinking is self-serving, myopic and "GREEK" |

Validated:The importer of the goods has already paid the VAT when buying the goods because it was built into the cost from China, conversely, should we pay VAT to outsiders for what originates from but is consumed outside Nigeria? As for the importer and consumer, the importer is the one adding value and so is liable to pay his/her own VAT which the final consumer carries in addition to the VAT from China. |
