morning

These it, customs don't give value out based on ur cif, they give value by what the FG and customs valuation board concluded to issue to a certain, particular vehicle by their grade, specs and year

On like urs it's a Mercedes Benz, and Benz, BMW and co mostly German machines and others are on a special duty differs from what would be given to Toyota and under product of it type, I mean sedan of it type in the Toyota and Honda

To clear that car full duty presently is ₦7.5m and that's the compromise I just dish to u sir

Meanwhile no accidental value sir

Jaid
This is just plain extortion! I don’t even know who comes up with things like this. You mean someone will sit in their office and decide to charge my incoming accidental car more than 80% of its worth? Nor be madness be that? How does this even sound reasonable sef ?

Why doesn’t customs consider the actual condition or value of the car. This car isn’t brand new—it’s damaged!

Honestly, I don’t even understand how Nigerians accept things like this.
How are we supposed to move forward in a country where policies like this exist… It’s unfair, oppressive, and downright crazy. Something really has to change

I don’t think I can go forward with this anymore. It just doesn’t make any sense. What I’ll do now is look for one of my dealer friends—someone who buys and sells cars. I’ll ask them to pay me for the car, and they can take it from there. They’ll handle the clearing and shipping costs themselves.
Maybe when things change in the future, I’ll consider shipping something into the country again. For now, I go waka passsssss

Honestly, now I understand why people smuggle cars in the country . I can’t even blame them anymore. When the system is this bad, what else are people supposed to do?
Re: Total Cost Of Clearing A Vehicle In Nigeria by Hybrid600: 6:54am On Jan 08, 2025
It's so crazy. For a car that's damaged and probably gonna be used for parts, customs will charge for it like it's a mobile and clean title.
They should even consider it's damaged and let the damaged titles have their own fair price.

Jaid, keep up the good work.

thanks for the commendation

But note the same car dealers he which to take from were he stop would get the car cleared with same amount I quote or higher and still sell this car for about 25m or there about

Though I don't know how bad the affected accident is, but I pretty sure OP won't spend up to 15m with what he said about the purchase of the car for 6.4m while other cost of inland shipping and ocean shipping would be about 3m to 4m

I'll advice he look into this well what would be would be

Nah naija slogan b that o grin

I just don’t understand how Nigerian officials think. Like, someone will wake up in the morning, go to their office, and then place policies on things like this is a banana republic

I buy car for ₦6 million, and now I’m supposed to pay ₦4 million just to clear it? Car wey never even start life for road sef !
My head dey pain me anytime I think am sef .

I know you’re just doing your job, and you don’t have the power to change things . But honestly, I feel like one of the biggest problems in Nigeria is that nobody questions anything.

That’s why you’ll go to a dealership platform today, see a car that originally costs $200k, and suddenly hear a price like ₦1 billion. You’ll just sit there wondering, how come ? , how come ?!
It’s because of things like this. The government squeezes the dealers with these thoughtless insane policies, and then the greedy & foolish dealers turn around and take advantage of the common man. It’s a never-ending cycle, and nobody seems to care enough to fix it

I feel ur pain bros

But the truth of the matter is that, the same vehicle would later be sold at about ₦25m to 30m that's after uve put the whole cost together to amount to about 12m to 15,so I believe the car dealers needs to be question for the outrageous sales

I come in peace
