The general population vote carries a percentage of the final results, and then the TLDR editorial team's ranking is worth the remaining percentage.

The shortlist includes world leaders like Vladirmir Putin, Joe Biden, Xi Ji Ping and president-elect Donald Trump, as well as media personalities and tech CEOs like Elon Musk, Mark Zukerberg, Joe Rogan and Taylor Swift.

I think the TLDR team picked current world leaders or people who are still influential even though they were former world leaders (that's when you consider among the world leaders sha).

For example, Barrack Obama and his wife are on the list, but Goodluck isn't.

From their perspective, it's more like they think an African personality is only influential when he's president of his country. Ngozi is the DG of the World Trade Organisation so she's there. I think they're wrong for that sha because I believe OBJ and Goodluck are even more influential than some of the African presidents that made the list.

Low-key I have a feeling people would create like 1 million gmail accounts to rank BAT as #1 so the TLDR team would have no choice than to give the Most Influential Person title to Tinubu. They'd rig so Tinubu would be more influential than Putin or The Pope. LOL!!!

After all, that list another media organisation released about the most corrupt people in 2025, Kenya's president William Ruto got the highest votes (60k, the highest they've ever received in the history of the ranking), but the team gave the #1 position to Syria's former president Bashir al-Assad and Ruto was #2.

It is people like you who flooded the inconsequential and unknown page to vote Tinubu as most corrupt, because it was opened to public voting.
Tinubu is already among most influential people in the world by Time Magazine, so all these inconsequential & mushroom company should park well.

That's not my point. My point is that these Western Media companies would consider a sitting president of any African nation more influential than a past president of an African nation in the mould of Nigeria, or South Africa or Egypt. Like you'd have to be a Nelson Mandela to get past that bias.
So would you say OBJ or Jonathan or even PMB are less influential than Samuel Matekane. Or Talon. Or Gnassingbe? Especially in ECOWAS?

P/S: I know the first guy is not from ECOWAS. I'm just making a point here.
