https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYvj4g9zsSU?si=0ZN7j6Q2gjOPt8gr My question is this; he is from Opobo. He is speaking his mother tongue. He grew up in Rivers state and has lived there all his life. Why do people want so badly to deny the Igboness of majority of Rivers state? Is it fear of Biafra? Do people fear that Rivers' direct access to sea will hasten Biafra if the people of that state join forces with their eastern brothers? In what way are Igbos forcing themselves on people of Rivers state, when they are the ones speaking our language and maintaining our culture? Rivers people who deny being Igbo, what have you gained? The reason GEJ was made vice president instead of Peter Odili was because Obasanjo knew Odili was a full Igbo man. Your igbo denial has not gained you much. The reason Ikwere dominate Rivers politics today is because Igbos living in Rivers often vote Ikwere. If we withdraw our support because of your behaviour, you will be relegated to the background. To igbos who want us to leave Ikwere alone, my question is what is the gain of leaving them? Why should we be intimidated into leaving an important part of our land behind just to satisfy people who hate us? How can an hausa man in Niger Republic be hausa but an igbo man in Niger Delta should not be igbo? |

Bede2u:They are like the LGBTQ who say that there are 3 genders: like those who deny the male and female in humans. |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by Bede2u(op): 7:53am On Jan 13, 2025 |
See the type of conk igbo he is even speaking. Even me from Enugu can't speak as deeply as he is speaking |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by Bede2u(op): 7:54am On Jan 13, 2025 |
Elusive001:honestly. Some people can deny the tongue in their very mouth when petty politics is involved. You will see white that everyone can see but you will be swearing its red just because of yeye interest |

Bede2u:Yorubad no dey tire. Una no get shame? You guys should know that yoruba can never deceive Rivers people forever. |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by NATIONALPASTOR: 8:17am On Jan 13, 2025 |
Godwin4444:Why are you shameless Yorubas the one speaking for Rivers Igbo? Even spending the looted money to divide Rivers people. Yoruba no get shame at all. Mind your skull mining business in Osogbo, Ibadan and other Yoruba cities. |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by Bede2u(op): 8:17am On Jan 13, 2025 |
Godwin4444:I was expecting a fo.olish boy to come with a narrative that shows exactly how people can lie shamelessly. Is English my mother tongue? Did Igbo colonize Rivers state at any point in history? So we can say Kwara and Kogi has no yorubas in it abi? If ikwere are rejecting us, why are they associating with us freely? |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by NATIONALPASTOR: 8:20am On Jan 13, 2025 |
Congratulations to The people of Rivers for liberating themselves from the divide and conquer of the Yorubas and Fulani. Rivers has been liberated fully.... And very soon all those oil companies that relocated their headquarters to Lagos from Rivers will return back to Rivers. Once again, Congratulations to Rivers Igbo. |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by Bede2u(op): 8:22am On Jan 13, 2025 |
NATIONALPASTOR:i believe this Ikwere no be igbo trash has cost Rivers state billions of dollars in lost revenue to lagos and that is why the biggest defenders of that policy are yorubas. But thank God the policy is Starting to fail, bundle by bundle |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by kettykin: 8:28am On Jan 13, 2025 |
Godwin4444:If Igbo is your mother tongue, then you are Igbo—end of discussion. English is an official language and not mother tongue. This isn't about a lingua franca or Central Igbo alone. The Igbo he spoke here is rich, with accents , proverbial and deep Igbo language, complete with its rich vernacular dialect. |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by gidgiddy: 8:31am On Jan 13, 2025 |
Opobo is an Igbo speaking part of Rivers State, so it's not a surprise Governor Fubara speaks Igbo |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by dettolgel: 8:53am On Jan 13, 2025 |
Godwin4444:I think your train of thoughts ain't well formulated here. Speaking English doesn't make one an English person but there are lots locations where English is the mother tongue and in most if not all their ancestral origin could be traced back to the British. As for the issue under discussion if their mother tongue is Igbo then it is most likely that they are Igbo, i that is the case what could have been the reason for the initial denial? Otherwise how come their mother tongue is Igbo? Everything is not argument, you should pose questions that give you the opportunity to learn new things. |

gidgiddy:Opobo is Ibani language which is very similar to the Kalabari language in ijaw tribe. Meanwhile SIM Fubara started his career in Oyigbo which shares boundary with Akwete in Abia state. It's not a problem that he can speak Igbo fluently, if u lived years in Oyigbo villages |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by Bede2u(op): 9:07am On Jan 13, 2025 |
richmond500:oh I thought there was no igbo in Rivers state at all? Why shift narrative? I grew up in Enugu city but I still can't speak the Nike dialect. He's speaking like someone who spoke igbo at home and most people say Igbo is the most spoken language in Bonny and Opobo |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by richmond500: 9:09am On Jan 13, 2025 |
dettolgel:Their mother tongue is Ibani which is closely related to Kalabari. As a Kalabari man, I understand Ibani very well but not igbo. His name Sir Amaopusenibo Siminalayi Fubara. AmaOpu in Kalabari mean the wideness of a town Senibo mean convert Alaye mean Chief Fubara mean star It's typical ijaw |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by richmond500: 9:12am On Jan 13, 2025 |
Bede2u:No, there is Igbos in Rivers state, no denial. Like the Oyigbo But as for Opobo, it's typical Ibani language which is very similar to Kalabari, it's not Igbo. |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by Bede2u(op): 9:19am On Jan 13, 2025 |
richmond500:fair enough. But they are not immigrants. They are igbos carved into old Rivers state by Gowon and Murtala to weaken Ojukwu's position. Lobby groups powered by FG then went on to declare Ikwere an ethnic group in 1979 to further deepen the divide and ensure Igbo lacks sea access. All these were done for one reason, Biafra |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by ogaemma: 9:25am On Jan 13, 2025 |
Rivers State is part of the old Eastern Region. Port Harcourt city was like the Lagos of the Old Eastern Region. All my Auntie's and Uncle's that lived in Port Harcourt during the old Eastern Region can speak Igbo very well including their children and grand children. |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by Tinubuadvocate: 9:25am On Jan 13, 2025 |
Nawah even oyinbo people dey speak yoruba. What kind of inferiority complex is this even Rotimi Ameachi also speaking Yoruba fluently. |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by richmond500: 9:27am On Jan 13, 2025 |
Bede2u:Sorry about the immigrant thing. But no Rivers person will argue that there are no Igbos in Rivers state. The problem is some persons saying Rivers is Igbo, this doesn't actually sound good to the Ijaw which are the majority in Rivers and also the Ogoni people. Also the Opobo thing doesn't make sense either because King Jaja was Igbo slave in Opobo and later became a king, this made the argument that Opobo is Igbo, but the truth is Opobo is Ijaw |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by agadez007(m): 9:28am On Jan 13, 2025 |
richmond500:No sir,Opobo speaks Pure Igbo but they have been trying to teach the younger generation the ubani language which they claim is the language of their ancestors but it’s not working, you can’t teach a dog a truck at old age I know am Opobo woman and she knows nothing of Ubani language but eats Igbo like food and she claims ijaw |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by richmond500: 9:30am On Jan 13, 2025 |
ogaemma:That is not true. Portharcourt is mostly Okirika while Obio/Akpo is Igboid, but the two LGA is now called Portharcourt by most people. |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by NaMe4: 9:32am On Jan 13, 2025 |
Bede2u: ![]() Is this to prove anything? Did Fubara confide in you that Igbo was his mothertongue? What then is the identity of those who 'claim' Fulani or Yoruba but can speak Igbo. Are they also 'denying' their Igbo identity? What's all the desperation about? |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by Bede2u(op): 9:32am On Jan 13, 2025 |
richmond500:lol, the bolded shows you don't fully know the topic. Jaja founded the town of opobo after falling out with other top palm oil traders in Bonny were he became a very rich exporter. He took his servants with him from Bonny. They comprised both igbos and ijaws. They are the ancestors of the current indigenous peoples of Opobo. When Jaja settled in opobo some 150 years ago, there were no people living there |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by richmond500: 9:35am On Jan 13, 2025 |
agadez007:Bro listen to me, I am from Rivers state, I am Kalabari. Now the first time I heard Opobo man spoke, I was in a bus, I could understand everything but the accent was wack, I asked them where they came from and they told me it's Opobo. U can't teach the new generation the Ijaw and have them fluent that way, now majority of Opobo doesn't understand Igbo and this is not a lie. SIM Fubara is fortunate cos he lived more than a decade in Oyigbo and could speak Igbo fluently |

Bede2u:Jaja of Opobo was a SLAVE in one of the Ijaw houses! No amount of denial can change this fact! Due to his loyalty, he was given freedom and later on, was even made a chief. Sometime later he migrated to OPobo, an indigenous area of the Ijaws, where overtime, was made a leader in the community. Bede2u:Jaja of Opobo was a slave. He was born in Umuduruoha, in present day Imo State and was sold as a slave at the age of twelve to an Ijaw master. He was even later resold to another Ijaw chief, Chief Alali who was the head of the Opubo Annie Royal House. In his adulthood, due to his loyalty and the magnanimus culture of the Ijaws he was even given a chieftancy. These events occurred in the 19th century. According to your concocted history, Opobo did not exist prior to the 19th century? These rebuttals are to dismiss all these conspired lies aimed at deceiving the naive. Lol Someone said he was kidnapped. By who? Guy, he was sold by his fellow Igbos. One question for you: What is the meaning of biafra? |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by ogaemma: 9:43am On Jan 13, 2025 |
richmond500:Can you please read my comments again and again and understand. Both Obio Akpor and Port Harcourt LGA, the most commonly spoken language during the old Eastern Region was the Igbo language. So those people who lived in the old Eastern Region many of them can speak Igbo language very well. Even till date in Obio Akpor, the Igbo language is widely spoken in the open market than the Ikwerre language. The likes of Austin Okpara, Sargent Awuse, Peter Odili, Ada George, Woli, Rotimi Ameachi can speak Igbo language fluently. Do your fact check. |
| Re: Video Of Gov Fubara Speaking Igbo by richmond500: 9:43am On Jan 13, 2025 |
Bede2u:That is what u are made to believe. But Jaja was indoctrinated into the ijaw tribe as a slave when they kidnapped him at a very young age, he left Andoni with other of his men and found the Opobo and became the first Amayanabo, Ama in Kalabari means town, Yanabo means owner. So Amayanabo means owner of the town in Kalabari. Now it's easy to argue that because King Jaja was genetically Igbo and found Opobo, the town is Igboid, it is also easy to argue that because he was indoctrinated as a slave into Ijaw culture, Opobo is Ijaw. But the clear thing is that, Opobo people did not learn Igbo as mother's tongue probably because Jaja and his men lived too long in Ijaw and forgot their Igboid dialect. |
