I hope you're aware that the Commission started collecting CVs since September 2023, called for screening in October same year and waited till October 2024 before shortlisting candidates for Interviews. As we speak those candidates are yet to be called for medicals neither do they know when they'll be called to report for training. This is Nigeria!
and they also collected cv end of last year again.

I believe this is the time letters will start flying around… a lot of agencies are undergoing budget defense in NASS.
APLs usually drop after budget defense….
Though the likes of NPA, Nimasa, NCAA, FIRS, BOI, NCAA, NCDMB and many others are yet to honor the invitation

The Joint Committees on Finance of the Senate and House of Representatives of the National Assembly today commenced the 2025 Budget Defense for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government.

This exercise is in line with the constitutional mandate of the National Assembly to ensure proper scrutiny and accountability in budgetary provisions by government institutions.

Among those that made appearances before the joint committees were representatives of the following MDAs:

Ministry of Budget and National Planning

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)

Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC)

Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC)

Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC)

Nigerian Shippers’ Council

Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA)

Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS)

Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET)

Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)

The budget defense underscores the legislature’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in public financial management.

The Joint Committee on Finance of the National Assembly today continued its 2025 Budget Defence sessions with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the government as they presented and defended their budgetary allocations and projected expenditures for the 2025 fiscal year.

The following agencies appeared before the committee:

Nigerian Customs Service

Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation

National Lottery Commission

Nigerian Export Promotion Council

Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund

National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion

Nigerian Meteorological Agency

Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency

Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN)

Nigerian Communications Satellite

Nigerian Airspace Management Agency

Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission

Bank of Industry

National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB)

However, the committee expressed dissatisfaction with the non-appearance of some government agencies that failed to present themselves for the budget defence. As a result, the committee has issued a 48-hour ultimatum for these agencies to appear before it.

President Bola Tinubu Approves Recruitment of 5,000 Personnel for the Correctional Service

According to a report from THE NATION news, in a strategic move to address the challenges of overcrowding and enhance the operational efficiency of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sanctioned the recruitment of 5,000 new personnel.

This initiative underscores the administration's commitment to reforming the nation's correctional facilities and improving the welfare of both inmates and staff.

The Acting Comptroller General of the NCoS, Sylvester Nwakuche Ndidi, announced this development during a presentation to the House of Representatives Committee on Reformatory Institutions, led by Hon. Chinedu Ogar.

Ndidi disclosed that although the President granted approval in August 2024, the recruitment process faced delays due to funding constraints.

He assured the committee that the recruitment would commence once the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) grants approval and the necessary funds are allocated in the 2025 budget.

During the session, committee members expressed frustration over the postponement, emphasizing the pressing need to address overcrowding in correctional facilities.

Hon. Victor Ogene, a committee member, called for transparency in the recruitment process and stressed the importance of prompt action.

"Some of us have been inquiring for months whether this recruitment is happening behind closed doors. We will not accept such an outcome.

This process should be transparent and timely," Ogene insisted.

Ndidi explained that the absence of financial backing had stalled the recruitment but assured lawmakers that the process would proceed with funding now included in the 2025 fiscal year.

The proposed budget for the NCoS includes Personnel Costs of N127 billion, Overhead Costs of N45.8 billion, and Capital Expenditure of N13.4 billion.

A significant portion—N38 billion—is earmarked for feeding the country's 91,100 inmates, at a daily cost of N1,125 per inmate.

The Acting Comptroller General raised concerns about the reduction in capital expenditure by N762 million and called for an additional N70.4 billion to modernize custodial facilities, enhance security, and digitize inmate management.

"To effectively run the service, we need advanced technology, including CCTV surveillance, biometric scanners, body cameras for staff, and state-of-the-art security systems across all correctional centers," Ndidi stated.
