Why are they leaving out the part where the coupists planned to hand over to Chief Awolowo? |

voortrekker966:As in ehn, the coup forced us apart and sowed this seed of distrust amongst us. For country polarized and made up of different ethnic groups, everything has to be done with fairness to EVERYONE otherwise some groups will find it difficult to accept resulting outcomes. All the coup plotters needed to do was to take out Azikiwe and others from East as well for the coup to seen as "FAIR" against corruption that has no tribe. But juveniles like Ifeajunana ruined it by letting Azikiwe and others from his side breathe because they were from his "TRIBE" ![]() |

kettykin:You mean those coup plotters wanted to free Awolowo and make him prime minister? 🤣 Why didn't they do it? |

For those who understand Yoruba, This was the 1964 campaign speech of Akintola. If you listened to it, you will realize why he was killed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNPzWW3kXVg&t=37s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErVSJKMRyhM&t=13s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xk83xIRwI2o&t=35s |

Umuinyioku:You this boy, you're just yapping rubbish to justify the satanic act of your kinsmen. To you, a six year old is a dummy who can't recollect what happened under his nose?. How old were you when you started school? Also, was Awolowo in charge when the coup happened?.study your history, ignorance is not bliss, boy. |

Sirheny007:Why hand over, when the coup against corruption is yet to be complete with the sparing of leaders from the East?? How did you think other ethnic groups will feel about that especially when they see the leaders from their region killed and some from other region who are present in the government spared? Coup plotters fvcked up.. they only needed to take out Azikiwe for their coup to be seen as "FAIR" but they messed up and result was... A counter coup |

Godwin4444:Hahahaha which South South? that's some delusion there bruh! How did Igbos lose south south? Yet, shame still allowed you to mention 'abandoned properties'? You that didn't abandon properties are selling all your properties to japa from your region and guess who you are selling all your properties to The same abandoned property owners are your space occupants lol....... aren't you ashamed that the abandoned property owners have already overtaken you that didn't abandon any property? The joke is on you, continue selling your properties, it's your curse tho not your fault |

NSK4U:You're an ingrate, when people in PH chased igbos away and seized their properties, they ran to another region who opened their arms to receive them and accommodated them. Today, you're taking that empathy for granted. |

2elliot:Your attempts to appear knowledgeable make you appear very ignorant. Everybody who is a student of Nigerian history knows the background of the coup. So I don’t see what you are trying to achieve by telling me about what happened in the west before the coup. Do you think you are talking to a millennial who doesn’t know history? Ayo Adebanjo is somebody I knew very well when I was young. Even though my late parents were not politicians, a lot of the political gladiators of the time were friends of my parents. There is nothing you can educate me on the matter. Trust me! LA 2191D green Mercedes’ Ben 200 with white interior. That’s the official car given to him in 1977 by the party. If you have anything intelligent to offer, either facts or opinion backed with critical thinking do so, but nobody cares about all the nonsense you just wrote. Those are weak attempt by someone who is learning his history in 2025 on the internet. I have already told you I don’t believe it was an ibo coup but unfortunately for them they failed and power fell into the hands of ibo expansionists who then acted in typical ibo fashion. BTW: 1) if you have to start mentioning your tribe or referencing mine in making a point, you have no point. A truth is truth irrespective of where you, myself or anyone comes from. 2) your choice of heroes shows you are likely just radical for the sake of radical and don’t think through things. The kind of person that changes a government for the sake of it because you don’t like the current state of affairs and plunges the country into a crisis. Kinda the same thing the 15th January coup plotters did. |

zero8zero:Which part of history are you reading or you are writing your own? Accommodators my foot! Please call it what it is "Unity beggers!" They can't stay without thinking of attachment of other tribes. Every other tribe making up Nigeria has at different times called for their independent country, we know those who can't try make the call out of fear of their survival should the rest separate..... that's some parasites leeching on others dude. |

Reading this write up only opens up old wounds even though I wasn't even born in that era. Lessons we should learn 1. Blood calls for more blood. 2. As a nation, we need to forgive but not forget. Winston Churchill's quote - "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it". Conspiracies 1. The Igbo mutineers claimed they acted because they wanted to free and install Awolowo as the PM. 2. However, none of the Igbo leaders were murdered on their side. 3. The Aguiyi Ironsi led government foot dragged and did not prosecute the mutineers. In summary, let us eschew greed, intolerance, entitlement and deceit from our national conscience as a people. I find that a region have a high tendency for this traits and it is rubbing off on the entire populace which is destroying the entire fabric of Nigerian society. Let us live in Peace and Love. This is the only way to assure Unity and Progress. God help Nigeria! |

maasoap:Ghana had multiple coups, but Ghana is now rated more than Nigeria Egypt had multiple coups, Nigeria is no where close to Egypt on any level South Korea had multiple coups, it is now one of the richest countries in the world. Almost evey country in Africa has had multiple coups. A country that will do well, will do well despite coup. Those that would never have done well will be blaming coup |

kettykin:If it was about Awolowo, according to your self-serving narrative, why was he not released by Ironsi immediately power was handed over to him by his power hungry Igbo kinsmen? Why was it left until Gowon took over government before Awo was released? The other tribes in Nigeria are very much aware of the Igbo domineering attitude and nepotism, and are wary of you taking over governance in this country. Because you people will only selfishly and greedily take over every sector of the economy with impunity, with total disregard to other tribes' feelings or complaints. Besides your people never love the country, but yourselves alone, and we all know that you are only praying for the destruction of the country, so why should we hand it over to you? |

2elliot:the coup did not fail.. the coup plotters only allowed a senior igbo military officer called ironsi take over.. and ironsi could have released Awolowo in the 6 months he ruled for if the lie that Awolowo was the reason for the coup was true.. because i:gbos have herd mentality just like the obi:dient movement that made them focus on 1 goal. the goal of the coup was to stop igbos from losing federal jobs the british gave them. |

Northerners, their elders and even their youths are currently engaging the presidency over the tax reform bill. They are using all their mighty, associations, their NASS members and youth organisations to tackle the president.. but in the south, yoruba people will never allow for any reasonable or useful thing to materialize!!!! They are even worse than the real parasites in their crab mentality in keeping everyone down Their own is that,as long as the dog in the manger that is keeping the donkeys away and making them uneasy is not Igbo, no wahala. A people who will give grounds for unprogressive retrogressive people to hold everyone to ransom and hostage is the worst enemy in life. |
