ALX Nigeria empowers nearly 100,000 Nigerian Youths and wins 10 awards in 2024

ALX Africa is arguably one of the world’s biggest accelerators for high-quality tech and entrepreneurial skill programs at a low cost and immense scale. Present physically in 8 markets, including Nigeria, the country team’s performance this 2024 has brought a fresh example to the concept ‘Naija no dey carry last.’

As seen in its ‘brag sheet’ below, ALX Nigeria received nearly half a million applications. It transformed the careers of over 76,000 youths across Nigeria, providing them with in-demand skills in Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Data Science, Front and back-end development, Virtual Assistance, and so many more!

At the heart of ALX Nigeria’s success is its extensive network of over 30 public and private collaborators, including key stakeholders like the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Wema Bank, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), 9mobile, and many more.

All these successes were evident in the ten awards received in one calendar year. Ruby Igwe, Country General Manager for ALX in Nigeria, spoke about last year’s highlights: "We are deeply proud of the milestones we reached in 2024 and want to do exponentially more in 2025, with more collaborators. 76,000 is a huge number, but we are going into the millions."

It's not inflated. During my time in early 2022, we were 50k in my cohort alone in the software engineering program. And several other programs were taking place simultaneously. And the cohort intake was monthly. Do the maths.

Note: the 50+ is for all Africans. Nigerians make up 30 to 50% in any ALX program in any cohort. I know because I've since done some other programs with them

Yes. The programs are free. You guys need to start getting enlightened. Most people in the Tech space know ALX.
I'm not part of their team, neither have i gone through their program. I know it because i own one of the newest fast growing Fintechs in Nigeria (na Media talk am, no be me) and i know some of the things i look out for when hiring

Wtf is wrong with you guys? ALX did empowered hundreds of thousands of Africans from 2021 to 2023 ending. Free programs. Even certification exams that cost hundreds of dollars were covered in certain cases and some of the programs are worth at least $15k - eg software engineering.

In 2024, they introduced admissions fees for some programs but left 4 programs completely free -probably because the sponsorship from Mastercard was running out or because they want some form of financial commitment or both.

Even with the admission fee or whatever $5 you pay, it's empowerment because the program is still free

No popular nairalander has posted anything about this alx. They should leave their phone screen sometimes and see what is happening outside.

Honestly, I feel Nigeria has a blurry future with the litany of dumb people it nestles unless it does something about their enlightenment. Once they don't understand a thing, rather than making research, these people go about looking for faults and hating, as long as it's a positive news about the country. This self-loathing demeanour will take us nowhere. Rather than looking for ways to take advantage of opportunities, you criticize.

Thanks to ALX anyways, I can't count the teeming population of us across Africa ALX has given a chance in tech career projection. From the tedious but powerful resources and top-notch teaching to the opportunity for collaboration, I appreciate every of their effort on us. The flexibility with their modus operandi is particularly impressive because how else would I have achieved a certificate of Software Engineering despite being a medical student.

As one of the earliest students, but who have had to always use the defer feature to strike the balance between the two fields, I say "Thank you always ALX for allowing me to #dohardthings, achieving my dreams in SE and still on the path to becoming a doctor". Massive appreciation goes to Mastercard who gave my cohorts the scholarship opportunities. I think Paroranking contributed at some points too, thanks to him. Thanks to every entity who contributed anyway.

Chief, most of the people am seeing here only know ALX as of recent. As far back as 2017/2018; one had to read a syllabus from them then write exams to get scholarship into their program where they trained the best, of Software Engineers and the likes I have ever known. I applied for the scholarship, so I know. It was tough for those who did not go through computer science degree or diploma programs, but once you got the scholarship training, you were guaranteed a job 100%, with starting positions like Junior Software Engineer etc. Going through their syllabus then, one would know that you really dont need a computer science degree to become a software engineer or the likes. Its just that competition is much, one needs credentials to be picked out of the many who need the jobs or positions.

See the issues I have with some people on Nairaland. I've said countless times that when you do not have an information about a particular matter, it would be more honourable to skip it and pass or read comments to learn rather than come online to display your ignorance.

I dare say that the figure mentioned in this post is a little lower than the real figure of we had to include those unserious learners who were dropped from their programs.

I have run three different tech courses at ALX with certifications (costing good amount of dollars) all for free! and someone who would not even bother to read before making comments would just tag anything that looks like good news "scam".

I don't blame them, all they ever wanted to see is bad news all the times. Unfortunately for them, they're disappointed most of the time.

What do I even know!
