I would rather we stop opening fresh wounds where one is already healing.
However, the determination of some people to rewrite history - believing that the louder they scream concocted lies about, the more history will be rewritten - will only force more people to come out and set the record straight!
There's need to open these wounds...because the south east people, are always claiming victims and blackmailing the nation....They started as bullies and got beaten blue black, and crying out everytime that they were beaten blue black.

I know Aunty Kemi has kolo mental. But I didnt know her kolo mentality has gone worst to the extent of throwing out blantant lies.

How was her father able to go give Akintola a Letter in the middle of the Night when the soldiers came? The soldiers came 2AM and not morning. By Morning Akintola was already Dead and Nwobosi had driven to Lagos with Remi Kayode, but by then the coup had already failed and Ironsi's boys had them arrested.

Lagos was their rendevous point and the very place fellow coup plotter Adewale Ademoyaga should annouce the actual takeover of the entire country if Ironisi hadnt missed them by the whizkers. Because Ironsi was among the people penciled down for arrest.

2. Akintola never lived at the Government House,at Agodi. He lived at Iyanganku. In a House abadoned by the British when they left. The House was later turned to the former court of Appeal at Iyanganku before being moved to Ring Road,Ibadan

So Aunty Kemi now wants to add lies to her kolomentality is very wrong.
. Is 2AM not morning, bro? I am not defending her sha.

The coup was not carried out by only Igbos. There was Yoruba, Middlebelt, and today Niger Delta soldiers among the coupists but you unscrupulous elements always make it look like it was just done by only Igbos soldiers.

You guys also intentionally ignore to tell the world why Michael Opkara the Eastern Premier at Enugu at that time was spared; Archbishop of Canterbury visited him that day and the coupists didn't want to attract British wrath, so they spared him.

Nnamdi Azikiwe the President was marked for killing but unfortunately as it was, his cousin, Ifeajuna who happened to be among the coup leaders leaked the coup information to him and Zik sneaked out to the Carribeans on health vacation grounds.

You guys also forgot to tell the world that Akintola was told about the coup weeks before and he communicated to Sir Ahmadu Bello his best friend whom he aligned with to persecute Obafemi Awolowo which was the main thing that even angered the young soldiers to carry out a coup to stop the political turmoil in Western Nigeria today Yoruba region between Awolowo and Akintola in which they unjustly jailed Awolowo that angered most of the young soldiers that carried out the coup.

Go and read "Why we struck" by a gallant Yoruba soldier that was part of the coup planners and leader.

When Akintola learnt about the coup, he said went and purchased a pistol swearing to kill anybody that near his residence thinking it was a child's play while Ahmadu Bello laughed it off believing his juju would save him.

Tafawa Belewa was not marked for killing because the young soldiers liked him, they only believed that Ahmadu Bello and Akintola were misleading Belewa but when the coupists discovered that the coup was already failing in parts of Nigeria like Enugu, etc, they angrily shot Belewa, a very huge mistake they made cos Belewa was a nice man cry

The coup was a military affair but they made sure it was turned to an Igbo people affair even when civilian Igbos were never carried along nor consulted.

And why will Igbos who controlled most sectors of Nigeria carry a coup; Igbo man was the President though with less power which he did willingly by allowing Belewa to become Prime Minister after winning the election while he became President which has more foreign influence while PM ran the day to day activities of the nation, Igbo man was the Senate President (Nwafor Orizu), Igbo man was the Chief of Army Staff (Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi), a man loyal to the Igbos, who also came from Eastern Nigeria then was the IG of Police, Igbo man was the documented richest man in Nigeria then (Sir Louis Ojukwu, Ojukwu's father).

Igbos dominated even Northern civil service because they were the most learned and qualified then which made Bello to issue a statement that they will stop hiring Igbos and start hiring foreigners if they can't find Northerners to fill the position, and also made Awolowo to start free education in Western Nigeria to enable them catch up with Igbos occupying virtually all positions including in Western Nigeria.

So there was no need for Igbos to carry out coup, the coup was entirely carried out by young, naive soldiers of which majority were Igbos from today Southeast and South South/Niger Delta in their foolish effort to rescue Nigeria from the hands of corrupt Nigerian politicians the British people handed power to.

But due to the already brewing envy against Igbos for cheerleading in most sectors in Nigeria then by the Hausa-Fulanis and Yorubas, the coup was conveniently tagged an Igbo coup just as Yorubas conveniently tagged Peter Obi an Igbo Presidential candidate despite Obi winning massively outside Igbo states including in Lagos, Middlebelt, Northeast and Abuja.

Una go tire sha.

We will keep exposing you guy's lies and hatred for Igbos, all thanks to social media and Internet, so gone are the days of spreading dangerous propaganda against Igbos using Lagos-Ibadan expressway brown envelope newspapers shocked

You are unwise and an ignorant mind.

The same pattern which lead to the killing of northerner and westerner by ibos officer in the first republic rear it ugly head in the last election. When your people were all over the place portraying obi has a saint while demonizing other candidates character and antecedent.

You ibos should continue fooling urself but other tribes are wise enough not to be decieved by your people never again.

I rest my pen.
Normally most Yoruba youths of today who spent their time supporting APC evil party don't have sense just as you have shown from your response.

Peter Obi emerged Presidential candidate less than 6 months to the election on a structure less party you Yorubas claimed was 2 people Tweeting in one room and said Obi can never get up to 100,000 votes.

At the end, Peter Obi won the election, won Lagos, Abuja, Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Rivers, Edo, Delta, etc on a structure less party such that Yorubas went mad. Peter Obi defeated Tinubu that have been struggling to become President since 1993 even in his backyard on an unknown party despite Tinubu contesting under a ruling party backed by the President, Military, Police, DSS, INEC, etc and you are still here deceiving yourself that other tribes dont like Igbos.

Other tribes have seen the true treacherous nature of the Yorubas, the North is regretting aligning with you untrustworthy Yorubas already, reason you treacherous Yorubas are using all media channels to incite Northerners against Igbos because you guys already know that una don cast with Pa Tinubu's emergence and mass failure after stealing the Presidential mandate from Peter Obi that won.

You know the truth but wickedness of the average Yoruba person in you will never let you admit it

in 1993, the two national parties fielded two Yoruba Presidential candidates to assuage Yorubas for the death of MKO Abiola killed by the Hausa-Fulani government, Igbos did not scream blue murder that Yoruba wanted to dominate Nigeria or Southern Nigeria but rather picked one of the Yorubas, Obasanjo and supported him massively but in 2023 that Igbos for the first time presented one over candidate and supported him massively, Yorubas wanted to die on top of it screaming all over the media that Igbos want to take over Nigeria and dominate them but since before Independence that Lagos have been the capital city of Nigeria enjoying all privileges from Federal governments, Igbos only aligned by coming to Lagos to explore business opportunities and never shouted blue murder of how Yorubas have dominated Nigeria.

Na God and nature go reward una Yoruba wickedness to Igbos, una must reap the reward of you people's wickedness, it will come oh unless you guys repent sincerely and seek for forgiveness from Igbos if not, time will teach u guys lesson.

Igbos paid the price of the mistake some naive overzealous Igbo military officers did in 1966 and still paying, Middlebelt is paying for their sins against innocent civilian Igbos they massacred in 1966 Northern pogrom, Northeast and Northwest are paying for the crimes of always killing innocent civilian Igbos and Christians in their region in the name of Islamic jihad.

Yoruba people should prepare to pay for their own sins against Igbos and others, it may look like nothing will happen now but nature always have a way of paying us back for our evil deeds.

make una prepare cos una must pay, u guys can continue to run your watery mouths as usual thinking u are smart, u know Yorubas are Saints that have never done any bad, time will teach you wicked Yorubas the bitter lesson of this life, you will see, I pray you live to witness the reward

The Igbos carried out the greatest ethnic cleansing and stacked the government with their own people in 1966. They laid the foundation for the ethnic mistrust in Nigeria today.

Obi clamouring for a religious war and Kanu inciting violence during the end sars is all in tandem with their agenda to destroy Nigeria

Good read, but why were the victims mostly Hausas and Yorubas considering the fact that Igbos were at the forefront of affairs according to you, at least the mutineers were purging leaders, politicians and senior officers who they believed were corrupt, why were the victims mostly from two ethnic groups. After the Rwandan genocide, the Tutsi and Hutu communities chose not to dwell on past grievances but instead focused on healing, forgiveness, and rebuilding a stronger nation. When they recounted the horrors of the massacre, it was not to rekindle hatred or division—they had already learned that such actions lead to no good—but to educate the younger generation, ensuring they avoid the mistakes that led to the 1994 genocide.

Sadly, in Nigeria, we don’t seem to adopt the same mindset. We remain deeply divided along ethnic and religious lines, failing to recognize that we are all victims of the same political system and leadership. Every time I read comments on Nairaland, I find myself losing hope in the future of our country.
May God continue to increase you on every side. A big lesson to learn from here. If we fail to come together as one Nigeria regardless of our tribal origin, then there are dark days ahead for Nigeria (this is not a curse).

Akintola - the man that propagate the word Yoruba RONU to passed a strong message across..

Many years ago, after Igbos have dominated most of the Nigeria government works, the west & the north didn't actually care. Then the Igbos pushed it further by; if Uni of Ibadan released admission letter of 100 students, 80 students will be Igbos. Then the rest Nigerians will be dragging the remaining 20..

Akintola couldn't keep quiet regarding that education part. He said the Igbos can take all the government jobs, no problem... But you see the education part...? No, it can't be. That was why he voiced it out then that Yoruba RONU! Education is a must and without it, progress would be hard! And you know what? ... Yoruba actually woke up and stood against that injustice!

Igbo made Akintola an enemy instantly! Some Yorubas don't know the kind deep hatred an average Igbo has for the Yorubas. They think it's a joke..

It's not propaganda but the truth. Own up to your error and other people will relate with you with trust. What would you conclude if 90% of the coupists were from a particular region? Your argument is like the grooming gang in the UK who are mainly Pakistani, where the Muslim cries when they are called Pakistani committing the grooming.

Being that you lack wisdom, you were not supposed to ask some of the senseless questions you asked.

Nnamdi Azikiwe was informed about the coup by his cousin who happened to be one of the coup leaders; Ifeajuna. Mind you there was no Telephone to call international immediately then, only Telegram I guess which took days and Zik was in the Carribeans on medical vacation. So who phoned and told him?

Of course the young, naive Igbo officers may have been tribalist with tribal sentiments in their hearts, that was purely their own decision and not all Igbos decision. That they decided to spare Igbo officers and politicians was their own individual decisions, they never consulted Igbo communities to get their approval to do so, so it was purely a military affair that ought to have ended within the military and politicians.

Igbos even wished Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe was killed in the coup cos most Igbos then never liked him cos he was more of pan African than Pan Igbo, so most Igbos didn't even liked him, so him being spared was based on the coupists volition and not from generality of Igbos.

No Igbo condemned the counter coup that killed Ironsi the then head of state and also led to death of hundreds of Igbo military officers, it was justified, one one, no issue, where the issue arose was Yorubas and Hausa-Fulanis tagging the coup an Igbo coup and extending the madness to innocent Igbo civilians living peacefully in the North out of the collective envy Hausa-Fulanis and Yorubas had for Igbos even before the January 1966 coup just because of Igbo people's success and dominance in most sectors then which was purely on merit, that was why it was tagged Igbo coup to use the opportunity to wipe Igbos out nothing more or less.

Same pattern has continued till date where Yorubas try everything humanly possible to tag anything as Igbo agenda to incite other Nigerian tribes to join them hate and attack Igbos, which social media is gradually changing unlike before that there was no social media to counter Yoruba people's lies, propaganda and incitement of other tribes against Igbos like they did from 1966 to 2010 or thereabouts.

Peter Obi came out and Igbos massively supported him, first time Igbos ever united and supported an Igbo Presidential candidate, something they didn't even do during Nnamdi Azikiwe era, what did Yorubas do? They kept using every media channel to paint Peter Obi as an Igbo candidate as if there were no Yoruba, Hausa-Fulani, etc candidates.

See if una like learn, if una like dont learn and repent, na nature go settle una matter last last.

As for progress and success, Igbos will remain the most successful tribe in Nigeria whether una like am or not, na God do am. You guys need to have visited Southeast last December to know that Igbo people are 30much, anybody thinking he can stop Igbos is wasting his or her time, it's like hitting your bare hands on a tipper fully loaded with concrete and hoping that your bare hands would stop the tipper from moving, una no fit stop Igbos from shinning and progressing, its God's gift, if we survived the pogrom and the brutal civil war that followed plus the decades of federal political marginalization since 1970 to become a formidable force we are today in Nigeria and outside Nigeria, that should have made you wicked souls and haters of Igbos to give up and let Igbos be
You are existing in your dream world. Keep deceiving yourself that it wasn't an Igbo coup and that Igbos are the most successful people. What I love about the Yorubas is that they don't brag that they are more successful than others. Being outside the country and studying the most crucial problem facing humanity, I think the most advanced black tribe are the Yorubas, not buying and selling with the intention to cheat.

You will keep suffering in silence, making your land inhabitable for you, forcing you to other regions to live as second class citizens.
Buhari called you guys "dot in a circle", Tinubu said you're "minority that never matters"

I would rather we stop opening fresh wounds where one is already healing.
However, the determination of some people to rewrite history - believing that the louder they scream concocted lies about, the more history will be rewritten - will only force more people to come out and set the record straight!
Which History are they straighten? Or you mean their own concorted version as well? If you are a critical critic of that period, you would have realized that all of the people that were murdered were father's & mothers of some children, husband &wives to some people, Uncles, Aunties, brothers, siblings, friends etc to some people. Same thing goes for those that were equally brutaly murdered during the revenge Counter coup d'etat & civil war that followed. Yes only God is on the position to judge & apportion I'm asked blames on everyone that were involved.
