temitope27:Nothing like fear. That's the power of consultation. Mr. President convinced the Governors on why the tax reform bill should be supported. If he doesn't have the support of the Governors, the bills would not be passed at N/ Assembly. |

galserv:Exactly That is what have been looking for. What exactly is the details of the new one they all agreed to. Was there a reduction for what Tinubu wanted or the Northern Govornors later had their way? Everything seem to be shrouded in secrecy. Does this work for the South the more or not? |

alrahmanonline:Jagaban that has been jagarized. The reform bill you are clamoring for isn't same bill the governors agreed to. It has been ammended to suit the owners of Nigeria. So what has Tinubu done special? |

happney65:What I am sure of is that it's not what it used to be. Also, VAT sharing may have been used to divert attention from more sensitive and key reforms in the bill. |

galserv:We, members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (@NGFSecretariat) and presidential tax reform committee, convened on the 16th of January 2025 to deliberate on critical national issues, including the reform of Nigeria’s fiscal policies and tax system, and arrived at the following resolutions: 1. The Forum reiterated its strong support for the comprehensive reform of Nigeria’s archaic tax laws. Members acknowledged the importance of modernizing the tax system to enhance fiscal stability and align with global best practices. 2. The Forum endorsed a revised Value Added Tax (VAT) sharing formula to ensure equitable distribution of resources: •50% based on equality, •30% based on derivation, and •20% based on population. |

The "sharing formula" is at the very core of the proposed tax reform bills. Any other consideration without taking this into cognizance would amount to beating about the bush. This is not a question of the North vs the South but that of objectivity. If States must be made to look inwards, the proposed tax reform bills would form the foundation for economic emancipation from the economic apron strings of the FG and bring about macro development across Nigeria. @hotseat |

Abdullah36:Please where and when did Tinubu agreed to their terms? ItsTutsi:Mr man, you have comprehension inadequacies and I believe you are the one that actually need to use your brain more. First, you claimed Tinubu agreed to the governors terms, I asked you where and when did he agree to it but you're showing NGF communique. Is the Tinubu the Chiarman of NGF? Later you said if they pass it, it is Tinubu that succumb. So it is no more Tinubu has agreed to their terms again. And I'm wondering how issue of chest-beating enter into the conversation. Guy, you're generally confused. |

alrahmanonline:This is the reason jagaban is well and generally accepted by well meaning Nigerians. Sincerely, it's not the fault of Those that didn't know Tinubu as a hard decisions taker and achiever. Strategizing with others; 1.He Faught military to install democracy by force in Nigeria. then, military was not willing to go. 2. He Faught Many political battles in SW to put Lagos on the prosperity lane. 3.he formed a national party to unseat a sitting president for the first time in Nigeria. 4.he Faught Many battle to win elections and become president. 5. He is fighting to reform Nigeria for prosperity and he is winning all his obstacles. No be today, Tinubu will not fail. |

galserv:afriwise logo President Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bill: Implications and Pathways for Progress Nigeria Tax Legislation 17/12/2024 OAL The introduction of President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bill has sparked widespread debates across Nigeria. This proposed legislation aims to overhaul the country’s tax collection and administration systems, presenting an opportunity to create a more equitable and efficient taxation model. At the heart of the bill are transformative provisions, such as revisions to the Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue-sharing formula and exemptions for small businesses and the average Nigerians. While these changes could potentially revitalize Nigeria’s economy, they also expose critical issues within the country’s federal structure, particularly the economic imbalances among regions (States and Local Governments). One of the most contentious aspects of the reform is the proposed VAT revenue-sharing formula. Under the new model, 60% of VAT revenue will be allocated to the state where goods and services were consumed, 20% distributed based on population, and the remaining 20% equally shared among all states. This marks a departure from the current system, where revenue is distributed based on where companies remit taxes, often in states with a high concentration of corporate headquarters like Lagos and Rivers. While the new model aims to ensure fairness by emphasizing consumption patterns, it has drawn intense criticism, especially from northern state governors and stakeholders who feel disadvantaged. |
