CommonSense1967:Who is forcing who? Azuta Mbata freely paid half a million naira for nomination to become Ohaneze PG, same as his Ikwerre kinsmen Uche Okwukwu and Jackson Womenazu. That alone demonstrates their pride in IGBO identity. I'm sure you bicker about paying your community dues, that is if you even belong to one, because you are probably a bast@rd. Tueh! |

I am not astonished by this phenomenon, as it underscores the variegated dispositions among the people of Rivers State, particularly those who communicate in the Igbo tongue. Permit me to delineate the categories of individuals contributing to this discord. First, there are those whose forebears unjustly benefited from the abandoned properties of their Igbo brethren after the Nigerian Civil War. The ill-gotten acquisitions continue to haunt their consciences, engendering a perpetual state of guilt. In a bid to suppress their inner turmoil, such individuals often adopt hostility toward their kin, erroneously believing that antagonism might silence the pangs of their guilt. Alas, I pity such individuals, for true peace shall only be attained when they reconcile with those they have wronged. Second, there exists a cohort that suffers from an identity crisis. These individuals have been indoctrinated with conflicting narratives about their origins. Some are told they hail from Benin in Edo State, while others assert their Igbo heritage. In their confusion, they align themselves with those who dismiss their Igbo identity, thereby perpetuating such discord. Their plight is indeed lamentable, for they wander in search of belonging, yet fail to recognise the linguistic and cultural roots that unmistakably tether them to the Igbo lineage. Third, there are those whose grievances are historical and not without justification. During the Civil War, many Igbo people fleeing the carnage prioritised the evacuation of those from the South-East, leaving behind their counterparts from Delta and Rivers States. This act of exclusion sowed seeds of resentment, and to this day, some harbour bitterness. However, they must recognise that organisations championing unity, such as the one in question, exist to bridge these divides. It behoves them to sheath their swords and embrace reconciliation. Fourth, we find opportunists who forsake their heritage for political expediency. These individuals deny their Igbo identity to curry favour with the powers that be, often reaping lucrative rewards in return. A notable example is a man who once disavowed his Igbo roots and was subsequently rewarded with a prestigious political appointment unprecedented for an Igbo man. Such actions are recorded in the annals of history and stand as a testament to the lengths some will go for personal gain, even at the expense of communal unity. Fifth, some act out of sheer ignorance. Unaware of their linguistic and cultural etymology, they fail to recognise the undeniable connection to their Igbo brethren. To these individuals, I pose a simple question: if the very language you speak bears the unmistakable imprint of Igbo origin, do you truly require external validation to ascertain who your kin are? In summation, I posit that this agitation is largely fuelled by political machinations and self-serving interests. Those orchestrating this disunity are either disgruntled by political outcomes that did not favour their preferred candidates or are manoeuvring for future political advantages. Some fear that affiliations with Igbo-rooted organisations might jeopardise their standing as South-South candidates in a political climate where ethnic delineations are pivotal. To such individuals, I implore: let unity, truth, and shared heritage prevail over fleeting political gains. |

Hehe he. This is great news for divide and conquer and rule and exploit people of north and southwest regions of Nigeria. One renegade lawyer from Ikwerre received playoffs from divide and conquer and rule people to distance Ikwerre from Igbo this time. |
