A devastating explosion from a fuel tanker occurred early this morning near Dikko Junction along Minna Road in Gurara Local Government Area in Niger State resulting in multiple fatalities and severe injuries, News360 Nigeria reports.

Eyewitnesses revealed that members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) were among those present at the scene. Tragically, the explosion happened while individuals were attempting to siphon fuel from the overturned tanker into containers.

Reports indicate that a generator, used in the process of transferring the fuel, sparked the explosion, leading to the tragic incident.

Several lives were lost, including a pregnant woman and children, according to an eyewitness who said, "I saw the bodies of the victims, but I cannot confirm the exact number of fatalities."

Another eye witness who is in the vehicle on his way to Minna,said over 30 people lost their lives as a result of the petrol tanker explosion.

Emergency responders are actively managing the situation, with those injured already rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.

Even as this one dey burn and news comes in say another tanker with fuel don fall, the survivors of this one will go and scoop that one. SOME HUMAN BEING WILL NEVER LEARN, this thing is fking dangerous, stay off. How much is the fuel you fetch that cost you your life? God bless the soul of the departed. Such a painful death 😭😭

Even if another Tanker falls tomorrow at that same spot, people will still risk their lives to go & scoop fuel.
&they are well aware of the risks, but they are ready to risk their lives for 20Litres of fuel.

The way these things happen repeatedly in this country is worrisome. Today, you'll hear tanker explodes in a certain location and people lost their lives trying to scoop fuel; tomorrow the same thing; day after tomorrow, still on still. And you wonder if people in this country don't place value on their own lives. You wonder why logistics personnel are not safety conscious.
