Telecom companies must provide electricity and import expensive technology to operate their services. Nigerian telecom fees are some of the lowest in the world. The issue is Nigeria's very low purchasing power. |

The origin of this problem is due to the devaluation of the naira...5k can't buy anything again just 2 big bread 5k gone 5k can't buy a crate of egg..just 2yr ago it could get 5 crates so the money is there but looks as of its not there. |

For every solution, you create another problem. So many people now depend on POS services as a side business. Passing regulations that eliminate them will put all these people out of business. On the other hand, I see the problem. Most above-average-income earners use transfers and barely use cash, so the charges affect low-income and average-income earners. The Govt has limited how much POS business owners can get daily. The Govt may need to enforce that. I also agree that they need to implement access to cash, but it is not cheap to install ATMs everywhere. Nigeria may want to try the Western system. Allow others to install an ATM, load cash, and charge customers for using their ATM. So if you use your GTBank card at a non-GTBank ATM installed by others, you pay x amount. Well guess what, it is similar to POS . If we say the Govt should regulate how much POS could charge, say ...for N10,000, charge N100, access to cash is not the same everywhere so that it will hurt some. Now that I have listed some challenges, what solutions could we go with... 1. Set POS charges for POS operators 2. Allow the charges to be tied to distance from the nearest bank or banks, so if you are 5km from a Bank, you charge N100 for every N10,000; if you are more than that, you charge N200. 3. Who will enforce? Create a hotline to report POS owners or create an email, Facebook, X account, or our system. 4. Make all POS operators get a license and display them. 5. Those who violate these charges after multiple warnings will have their license revoked, and they will need to re-apply 6. Tie all licenses to NIN so if POS is used for ransom, you know who you are looking for. These are my solutions. Come up with yours, and keep the insults. We need to be a solution-oriented society. Bobloco: It's even more worrisome that such things are the ones voting in political leaders in the country. They are in large numbers and mostly used as thugs. They have the social media thugs who uses keyboards and the offline ones who snatch ballot boxes. All they care is the game of politics and not the actual work of providing good governance. It's even more pitiful that some Nigerians think those things care about them. Next election, they should keeping voting misfits and then later start disturbing the social media. |

Ebubu6:I complained about this some days ago, some useless Ronu miscreants who don't even have up 1k in their account started transferring their generational frustration to my post. As am typing this, you'll pay N300 to withdraw 10k from any POS vendor. Back in the days before POS, you can walk to your bank's atm machine and withdraw as much as 200k without any charges. Just keep pressing continue and you'll keep withdrawing. Today before you'll see an atm that's paying it's going to be by a miracle. And if you walk into the bank to make a withdrawal across the counter, they'll direct you back to their ATM that isn't dispensing cash. After roaming around various ATM's in vain and finally decide to manage POS vendors, you'll discover how useless the value of our naira is. Meaning you can withdraw 50k today and by tomorrow it's gone. No thanks to the inflated prices of commodities in the market, Thus making you go for another withdrawal and another exuberant charges. It has become an issue of paying to access your hard earned money. These days I try to use transfers to pay for whatever I purchase. The downside of this that I'll be cashless. Honestly I don't know where this country is heading to. Left for me, I think the government should place a ban POS. Cos it's been seriously abused. Let's go back to how we used to withdraw from ATM's without any issues. |

I'm a supporter of Obi but he is wasting his time on this pos issue. Has he even thought of what pos agents spend to get cash? Pos company charge them too! They pay local and state and federal governments levies. They pay rent and staff! No one forces anybody to patronize pos agents. He should fight banks to make cash available to their customers and stop disturbing pos agents doing their legit business. Obi has forgotten that 50% of Nigerians are unbanked. I live in a state where 10 local governments have no banks, only pos has helped us to withdraw and transfer cash. He should write Tinubu to establish banks in all communities! How many communities are safe to host banks? This Obi is becoming jobless by the day! |

Vikto17:You're asking me why I need my money? Lol. Part of it is tipping, paying hotel services, giving my driver money for gas etc. etc. I spent about 500k in cash in 10 days even though I have a bank card. And I had to exchange it at a loss because there was no money in the ATMs. You guys seem to have gotten accustomed to tomfuckery that you can be even rationalizing paying any amount to get access to your money because the banks you put it in won't give you cash. Expect better. To top it off, my bank was acting shitty all during Dec and Jan before I left. Going through my account I have about 1 million in bank charges that I've been going back and forth with the bank to Return. Debits from double and triple charges from POS machines in some restaurants that were not working and cancelled UBER and Bolt Holds that I called for people not falling off. So, I actually plan on doing more cash transactions for the smaller stuff so I won't have to deal with the bank nonsense I'm dealing with now. |
