It is easy to pontificate when you are not the one at the receiving. The east is a hot bed of kidnapping and robbery and with the way it went down, the so called operatives burst into the house like robbers or bandits, so any right thinking person will defend themselves. You want to fire warning shots at people they may be armed and dangerous?

Keep preaching, until it happens to you.
That's not the way it works. This is real life, not a movie or TV series.

How does it work? I'd think what ishilove posted is the more humane approach?

i hope the so called 'internet fraudster' has a lawyer

internet fraud is a white collar crime. financial crimes are white collar crimes. why are efcc storming peoples residences in the dead of the night?

on what basis?

you suspect a person is an internet fraudster what stops you from coming to his house officially?

do they even have court order - or they can just wake up and break into anyone's house because they feel like it?

and what business does the army have with flying the corpse of someone not attached to them?

all i can see is efcc has taken time to package their story after their attempted shakedown went awry.

EFCC are now little more than thugs who break into peoples houses on the flimsiest of excuses. someone who is not even from the area just decides that because a person has a nice car, the person musty be a fraudster.

salute to the doctor who was protecting his family. he is the real hero here. his lawyer can also play that game and we can get pictures of him with his family, with patients, his graduation.

maybe efcc can also tell us how their assistant superintendent is able to afford a late model iphone
QED. All I see in that article is damage control and I am pretty sure the doctor's family will come out with their own version of events. I have no sympathy for these criminals because I personally know someone who is a victim of their tactics and extortion. He is well connected, which is why they were not able to lock him up

If this is poor reportage I can't say. I'm wondering how a medical doctor became a yahoo boy all of a sudden. Of what right have the EFCC operatives to aggressively invade a private apartment without having a warrant to do so?

Note that the police already stopped them from making arrest before, because they didn't inform the police, one might say their raid is even illegal and not even sanctioned.

Of course it is illegal. There was no investigation nor credible intelligence to warrant the raid. They got to the block of apartments and relied on gate men pointing to random apartments, burst into the random apartment like kidnappers and bandits, and got treated in like manner.

A medical doctor-cum-yahoo boy?

I hope they didn't mistake their suspect. And even if he's truly not a saint, he must have taken their raid for robbery because a medical doctor wouldn't intentionally shoot at EFCC operatives.
They wore efcc branded vest

But these security operatives should be trained to handle these types of cases in a professional manner. Maybe the suspect couldn't have shot him if he knew they were EFCC operators whom we know they (fraudsters) are not even afraid of because they will get out quickly due to the corrupt Nigerian system.

He may have resorted to defending himself if he thinks these are more dangerous criminals like kidnappers or armed robbers. The way EFCC will barge into homes without due protocols like arrest warrants, identifying themselves and giving the suspects enough proof to know who they are before jumping over fences and kicking doors down is dangerous for everyone.

In the southern part of Nigeria, some people are so overzealous about crime fighting that they lose their senses in the process. Things they will not attempt in other places, they rush to do because they are already operating with a flawed mindset.

Crime is bad, let's fight it with professionalism.
This case will teach them a lesson and maybe force a review of their operational guidelines.

How can you want to go and catch a criminal and you are behaving worse than the said criminal.

With a very good SAN, he will walk free on self defense claims.

My Own is simple, the doctors family should have deep pockets, if not, it'll be another story entirely. The EFCC is already swimming in muddy waters, so, all the family need do now, is get a good lawyer, and back him up with money, and try as much as possible to effect his bail.

I'm just a little bit bothered how they got the Army to fly the dead EFCC operative to Sokoto. I know for sure the Army will never even attempt to fly a policeman to anywhere, talkless of a dead EFCC operative, this reek of connection, and in such cases, that doctor might have a thing or two coming his way.

The EFCC and their fire brigade approach to matters is now something else. They now behave like the police or even worse. I'm sure many of them have never been sued for breaking and entering and also, malicious damage and aggravated assault etc, the very reason they always and keep behaving in this manner. Tssk.

After shooting and killing the EFCC operative he threw out the gun, a short pump action gun owned and licenced by his father into the bush.

"He hid at first in his ceiling and then crawled to his neighbour’s ceiling from where the police arrested and detained him."

"His father went to the police station to state and support his position that he killed in self-defence.

"All the EFCC operatives dispatched for the night operation had no bulletproof vest. They just wore their branded EFCC jackets."

🖕🏼

How can you burst into people's home in a commando style without bullet proofs and expect them to stay docile and watch you wreck havoc that's impossible

The guy acted on Self defense if I must say
EFCC officers acted unprofessionally but was the guy licensed to carry gun? The guy is in a serious mess honestly.

So in essence, the Abokki bastard came to Anambra to operate like an armed robber/kidnapper in the dead of the night and deservedly got served.

It’s the tragedy of Nigeria.
Illegality upon illegality.

EFCC raid a suspect, like thieves in the night, with no safety gear, no warrant.

Suspect shoots without thinking, with an illegal gun.

Operative gets rushed to hospital, no doctor. A whole govt hospital, 0 doctors and 2 nurses?
Police waylaid and interrupted other operatives operation since it won't pay them. Similar scenario happened in Ore, Ondo State late last year where police also did same to NSCDC operative who arrested Vandals of pipeline making the situation to result in one person being killed. Police too dey overdo.

The system is bleeped I swear.

Very unfortunate. There is now the talk of they wore no bullet proof vest. Since when did arrest of yahoo boys require vests. These are ppl known to have laptops and phones as weapons. EFCC operatives wear their EFCC encrusted vest except the police officers among them sometimes wear bullet proof vest. We all know how the east is. The guy would have thought they were kidnappers and the gateman could have directed them to the wrong house. We know how many doctors have been kidnapped. No doctor on duty in a whole federal hospital? He could have survived if out healthcare sector was working. Most are just Potemkin villages. I believe the shooter acted in self defence but this is a hard one. EFCC and others will now start wearing bullet proof vests. EFCC also need to improve their arrest approach. May the gallant officers soul rest in peace

You are funny ! So beacause the gun is legal and licensed he can shoot whenever he likes once he feels he is threatened? Even after the operatives identified themselves as EFCC agents. Why did he throw out the gun and hide in the ceiling after killing the agents? If it was actually self defense, why did he not come out and own up to his actions immediately? So because you feel threatened you can shoot at anyone even after they identify themselves as federal law enforcement agents? Common now !
Shut up. Dunce.

You invade my property in the dead of the night, I will blast your useless skull. I don't know how some of you disgusting fools reason. They identified themselves merely by shouting EFCC, and you think Armed Robbers or Kidnappers can't do the same?

I have said it here before, maybe it is when EFCC start losing lives of it staff they will have sense, now it is happening. Unfortunately i forsee more of it staff meeting God if they don’t become more professional.

Don’t expect people not to defend themselves when you enter people’s houses like thieves.

What is wrong with surrounding the house and politely knocking and identifying yourselves undecided

Imagine EFCC damaging people doors and invading their privacies dead in the middle of the night, I support people defending themselves, Nigeria is something else now. Some days ago the same EFCC had to sack some of its staff cause they were actually rogues, so I won’t put armed robbery past them.

Dead in the middle, you are kicking my door. I don’t know who you are, I don’t know what is going. I would start recording the event and definitely grab a knife, to use to send the first and maybe the second e-diot that makes it through my door to God. Make una go explain your stupidity. Ahn ahn. The recording would be for my lawyer to prove it wasn’t EFCC but armed robberies undecided

Efcc is just a messed up outfit, you went to a wrong apartment to carry out an illegal raid, something your chairman banned since that oau incident last year.
Your operative now lost his life in the process, I somehow wonder why you don't carry out such raids in the northern part of the country ? your casualty figures will probably be higher by now.
Re: EFCC operative, Halisu Sahabi killed during Awka raid, buried in Sokoto - SR by nwirinedu(m): 6:15am On Jan 19, 2025
Why do you break into someone's house without a proper warrant? Why steal personal effects of suspect under the guise of confiscation? Why emphasis on southerners only?
Why exclude political office holders?
EFCC has not been professional in it's conduct since it's inception in 2004.
Re: EFCC operative, Halisu Sahabi killed during Awka raid, buried in Sokoto - SR by higgs: 6:30am On Jan 19, 2025
You are not being logical. Raiding homes at night without search warrant is illegal. With the level of insecurity in Awka at the moment, the doctor's actions are quite understandable. After a similar disastrous night operation in a SW state, the EFCC chairman announced that he has banned night raids, why did these operatives defy that directive? The doctor is not guilty of murder and this can easily be proven in court.Sometimes the perpetrators of illegality become victims.
RIP to the deceased
Olu1000:
Your bias against EFCC and their modus operandi does not make EFCC illegal. Some Yahoo governors approached the Supreme Court to declare EFCC unconstitutional but the Supreme Court declined.EFCC is a constitutional law enforcement agency and cannot be dictated to as to how they will operate. The officers identified themselves to the alleged Yahoo doctor and they did not fire at him so self defense will certainly not fly in a law court. Moreover him hiding after killing the officer means he was aware of the consequences of his actions and tried to evade arrest. Only a yahoo judge will look at the evidence and think it’s a case of self defense.

Olu1000:
How will his good lawyer explain the fact that he threw the murder weapon away and hid in the ceiling after committing the offence? The fact that EFCC broke forcefully into his house does not give him the right to shoot at law enforcement agents especially after they identified themselves as EFCC officials. You can’t dictate to EFCC when and how they will operate
He only threw his weapon away when it dawned on him he has shot at policemen and not at robbers/kidnappers.. other reports have it that he kept firing to scare the attackers further off and to alert security agents in the area to possibly apprehend the fleeing supposed criminals.. It must have dawned on him when he saw the back up policemen rushing the injured men to hospital.

Do u know how many criminals disguise as uniformed men to carry out their crimes? The doctor may not have been convinced by whatever identification the operatives were giving at that time of the night..

An unfortunate and painful incident both for the slain operative and the medical doctor and infact for the whole nation .. but yet we mustn't allow emotions to becloud objectivity
