While the incident has highlighted communication challenges among lawmakers, it has also sparked a conversation about the balance between public presentation and effective representation.

Hon. Adigun Abass, representing Ibadan North-East/South-East Federal Constituency in Oyo State, recently drew attention after struggling to articulate a motion in the House of Representatives.

The incident, captured on video, has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians.

The lawmaker, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), faced significant difficulty expressing his points, prompting Speaker Tajudeen Abbas to step in and guide him.

Despite the Speaker's intervention, Hon. Abass was unable to proceed and returned to his seat visibly flustered.

The moment has ignited debates about the qualifications of representatives in the National Assembly.

Netizens slam lawmaker

Critics on social media have questioned Hon. Abass’s communication skills and overall suitability for his role.

“It's embarrassing for someone in such a position to struggle with basic communication,” one commenter remarked.

However, supporters have defended the lawmaker, highlighting his achievements in his constituency.

“Hon. Abass is an exceptional representative,” a constituent noted. “He has initiated scholarships, improved security, and brought infrastructure development to our area.”

Another supporter added, “We don’t elect him for his English but for what he delivers. His work speaks louder than words.”

While the incident has highlighted communication challenges among lawmakers, it has also sparked a conversation about the balance between public presentation and effective representation.

Olodo, you should direct your anger to the Assembly speaker who corrected him and not bloggers who are simply doing their job of reporting.

All these excuses some make for Nigerian politicians is part of the reason why all sorts of ill-bred, semi-illiterate and certificate forging characters find their way into politics and governance, and begin to run the show for the rest of us! Did Awo struggle with reading and spoken english when he was in politics and gov’t!? Why then do we treat with levity the fact that more than 6 decades later, we still have a member of the House of Reps struggling to read like a kid in primary one!? Awo would be spinning in his grave!

You have a point but u must bear mind that not all good leaders will be educated in Western ideals, wisdom and tact is a more important branch of education and it is mostly informal, a person the people want to represent them should be given the opportunity to do so.

Lol Yoruba should be the language of communication in a Federal legislative body? Really? Why not Igbo or Hausa?
You people have forgotten that English is our official language and that to pass WAEC you must pass English?

You are part of the problems of Nigeria.
An illiterate motor park tout contested to be a member of the house of Representatives & won through thuggery, agberoism, political godfathers and with supports from idiotts like you.
Wasn't he informed that English language communication is one of his requirements inorder to represent his people?
Was he expected to go there and speak yoruba in a multilingual nation like Nigeria?

I always thought Hausa/Fulani are the ones dragging this nation backwards but now I know better.
You people are pathetic. *spits *
