What is the big deal about inability to speak English.

Is ability to speak English effortlessly a sign of intelligence.

Slave mentality.
It has nothing to do with slavery mentality. English language is our official language and if you can't express yourself clearly in such capacity, then you have no business been there in the first place.

foolish bloggers with defeatist mentality. Is he an English man? Why make a fuss about his inability to speak English?
But he has academic credentials signifying that he is a graduate of an English taught course. He should be able to communicate fluently in simple English at least.

The most fluent among them could be the worse in constituency deliveries.
Re: Adigun Abass Struggles To Speak English In The House Of Representatives by FrancisIgya: 4:59pm On Jan 19, 2025
What matters is not proficiency in English but in constituency delivery.

Before I opened the thread, I knew the region that would elevate such illiterate to where he is. Over there, thuggery and hooliganism is viewed as the only means to assume office. How can a sane person want to share a country with people like that? And not that they don't have learned folks but their penchant to collect 'congo' of rice and vote in empty brains into seats of power questions their formal education... And if you ask him now, he would readily tell you he's an awoist without even knowing the political party Awo belonged when he was alive....... God forbid this kind of thing from my region please.

English is not his mother tongue. They should have allowed him present it in Yoruba and then translated for those who don't understand.

We are lost in our identiy as a race.

Why speak english? Is english our mother tongue?
Why is there no provision for us to speak or write in our native language and interpretations done to whoever cannot understand.

In the entire world, to the best of my understanding, nations speak their mother tongue, except africa who adopts their colonialist lingual.

What does that say about Africa as a race, especially black africans?

Look at us here, laughing at him.

Meanwhile, we fight among ourselves internally about who is superior between Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba, yet we speak a foreign language and tag one another as inferior if you fall short of speaking english.

You are the fool.

If the man claimed he had a national diploma delivered in English, yet he could not present a simple bill in plain English, who would you think was the fool?

Nigeria democracy is riddled with fraudelent law makers that cheated at school and college. Most lack the critical and lateral thinking skills to make rational decisions.

Nigeria has 500 languages. Which language should he be using? I bet his presentation would be worse if it was in Pidgin English or Yoruba.

Ogbeni your statement is not entirely correct. That we decide to usually speak English doesn't mean it's the norm, you're allowed to express yourself in the major three languages of the federation and English.

The norm of always speaking English makes it look like it's always been like this, but in reality it's not, officially we operate four languages.
You are really a confused being. Yes, Nigeria constitution recognises four major languages. However, English is the official language. Does he not have credentials showing that he passed English language, or did he obtain it through back door?

He was not actually struggling grammatically but struggling to use the house terms which he has not been used to based on the fact that he might actually be a first timer in the house and so not used to such terms often.
By the way, who does English help and how does that transcend into good performance?
🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
