I’m Not Igbo – Wike by obasanjonews(op): 9:57pm On Jan 19, 2025
On Sunday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), stated that he does not identify as an Igbo man.

He revealed this information during a media chat in Abuja on Sunday while discussing John Azuta Mbata's election as the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

A few weeks ago, Azuta Mbata was elected President-General of Ohanaeze in Imo State. He succeeded Fidelis Nze Chukwu, who served out the term following the passing of former President-General Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

Referring to Mbata, Wike stated: "I am an Ikwerre man, not Igbo. I have no issue with Igbo people."

Azuta Mbata is free to associate with anyone. I am a proud Ikwerre individual and not affiliated with Ohanaeze.

"I will not, under any circumstances, compromise my identity for the sake of recognition."

Wike, you're a Fulani man, nothing do you
Re: I’m Not Igbo – Wike by gidgiddy: 10:30pm On Jan 19, 2025
Mbata and Wike are two Ikwerre men from the same LGA. One says he is Igbo, the other said he is not Igbo. Some Ikwerres says they are Igbo, others say they are not. I suspect that those who trace their ancestry to Bini are the ones who say they are not Igbo, who can blame them? They are Bini people, like Wike

The Igbo nation already has enough population, we don't necessarily need more

This Ikwerre is Igbo saga is nothing but a Biafra agenda.
Why is this debate of Ikwerre identity coming up now after so many years after the civil war.

Igbos just want to grab those people's land n oil

Don't worry they will force d next ohaneze president on Benue state so they can claim there too

Bunch of clowns
No body is forcing anybody. If Ikwerre man's language is same as that of an Owerri or Umuahia man but he claims not to be Igbo. The Owerri or Umuahia man will surely be confused but will only keep silent and walk away considering the Ikwerre man a fool.

if you know of a local government in this our one Nigeria that speaks your language 100% and follows your customary practices but says they have 'nothing' to do with you, won't you find it strange?
That's what's happening here bro, nothing to do with oil or Biafra. I never hear say Enugu man steal Imo state oil. Even Ebonyi that accepts being Igbo said they are not part of Biafra. Ikwere can be Igbo and still refuse to be part of Biafra or share their oil with SE. We have more oil in SE than ALL ikwere local government areas combined, not to even talk about gas.

One can only describe this obsession with Igbos as inferiority complex. You don’t spend your day to day talking about people who are irrelevant to you.

No oga,
The denial of being igbo started immediately after the civil war.
It was part of the FG agenda to fragment the Igbo nation and make them look small and weak.it is an age long strategy when dealing with a formidable opponent.its like what the allies did with Germany after WW2, Austria became a separate country even though Hitler is from there and then they divided Berlin into West and East.
Secondly, out of political expediency, the ikweres accepted it because after the civil war, nobody was sure of what is going to happen.

You are not exactly right. A man who knows his ancestry is telling you that he is not Igbo and you are saying another thing. Wike's father is alive and knows where they came from. Rivers State is far from been homogeneous.

The igbo nation is too big to be giving this people attention,if not for cursed APC administration I don't think I will know they are in existence which is to tell that everything happening is an APC agenda against Igbos
