Maybe reporter could have said how much he sent.
Maybe the in-laws used the money for things they thought is more important, for example food and drinks, and did mot rent canopy or decorate the compound.
Maybe they assume he will settle the DJ
there could be any possibilities for this situation. Unless OP has heard from both sides, no one should conclude.

What if what he sent 300k?
The in-laws cooked a bag of rice (100k, excluding the ingredients), prepared soup, swallow, meat and drinks.

It is not good to always see yourself as smarter than others. Then become dubiously smart.

This morning I booked a bolt ride to MMA2. The Taxi man that accepted just wrote "on my way" to me in a chat.

4 minutes later he activated that he'd arrived. I called him to ask where he was, he told me in the place.

I said where, because I could see him on the Map that he "pressed arrived" at the wrong place.

I told my wife, "this guy will definitely be an ibo guy". How on earth could you just believed you have arrived without communicating to be sure you are in the right place?

Anyway, I described my location, he got to me about 6 minutes after when the free waiting time had expired (Meaning the additional waiting time caused by his dubious move will be charged into my bill).

I asked the young man (in his late 20s) why he did such, he told me that was where he saw on the map.

I told him not to try this with others because it would result into unnecessary arguments or fight.

We got to MMA2, my Man sent his OPAY. I paid 400 Naira more than the original estimate because of his purpoted smartness.

His name is Ekene****chukwu G******.

I could afford paying that money, but intents to cheat others isn't smartness, but foolishness.

I later told my wife that he did not actually do that because he is Igbo, but because he personally did not know that cheating is evil.

I only guessed he was Igbo man because, most I relate with in business circles always make moves to put themselves at advantage position even though it is obvious they are trying to cheat.

Anyway, the bad ones should stop putting the innocent ones into the mix.

DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OTHERS. don't CHEAT OTHERS IN THE NAME OF NA BUSINESS.
