Netflix ain’t leaving Nigeria. Also, even without Netflix, Yoruba movies gross the highest number at the box office and no amount of tears from people like you will stop the fact.

Even ordinary Benin get level pass Ibo people. Yoruba is way above your league.
Yorubas have no hold in the movie industry at all. Igbos now dominate nollywood more than before but the problem is that the industry is largely unstructured and informal. Everyone is now a producer, with YouTube and paytv like ROK and African magic being the biggest distributors.

Netflix had a very small market share and did everything with Amazon prime to break even but your Igbo dominated traditional nollywood that has migrated to YouTube and paytv still has a stronghold on the viewership. It was very easy for us to predict that Netflix will divest from Nigerians when they have less than 200k subscribers in an over 200million population economy, while YouTube movies record millions of views in days.

The cinema sector hold a very small chunk of the overall nollywood market value, about 5%. Hence, using "box office" performance to evaluate movie success is highly misleading. It's like using the prices of products on the shelves to generalize retail prices in the Nigerian market when you know most nigerians use the traditional market instead of the mall. Even in the cinema sector, foreign movies still dominate. This is to tell you how unappealing the cinema nollywood remain to the average nollywood fan despite the incredible media promotion. Chill bro.

Funke Akindele

Kehinde Bankole

Bimbo Ademoye

Omowunmi Dada

Joke Silva

Iretiola Julius

Etc Etc Etc

You are a learner!!! angry
you couldn't even list up to ten Yoruba actresses to compete with small Edo. Only Bimbo ademoye can compete with the ones I listed.

Lol... You even had to bring up Joke Silva. Your list is as dry as hell. I know you guys lack talented actors bit didn't know it was this bad cheesy

Even funke akindele is not an a list actress. She didn't receive much acceptance in the English nollywood and had to join politics and raised capital to become a producer grin

Yoruba doesn't have good actors and producers. Most Netflix movies you shout about are funded by Netflix. Therefore, they are actually produced by Netflix. The collapse cheesy of Netflix once again highlights the hidden incompetence of the Yorubas in the craft of movie making.

I don’t even understand what you are trying to say.

you won't understand. The only thing you understand is your "highest grossing" propaganda you use to mislead those who don't understand the market.

"Highest grossing" and "box office" only apply to the cinema who control an almost insignificant share of the nollywood market value.

So what metrics is used to judge Nollywood movie worth? If you don’t use box office gross, Netflix/Prime numbers, what exactly will you use?

YouTube views and how do you measure YouTube success and link it with an ethnic?

Mind you, I am not arguing Nollywood success with you, Yoruba far trump any ethnic in movie, music, and general entertainment when you talk of gross value and achievements. No ethnic group come close.

If I will rank it, Yoruba, South-South ethnics, then we will rank Ibos third.

That is why I said that nollywood is largely informal and you cannot use the paltry cinema industry that is still dominated by foreign movies to judge nollywood. For instance, the cinema industry generated a paltry 7.6 billion naira in 2023 while Netflix added 39 million dollars to Nigeria's GDP after investing over 24 million dollars same year.

Compare it with multichoice profit of 277 billion naira profit in the same 2023. You know a large chunk of this amount comes from its movie channels.

Also YouTube nigerian ADs alone in 2023 is estimated to be worth over 100 billion naira. This is nigerian ad which excludes the value of foreign ad on Nigerian contents and YouTube overall profit in Nigeria which they do not disclose.
Nollywood movies contribute a large chunk of revenues for this channels. How do you extract the value of nollywood content from these channels?

That is why I told you the main nollywood is largely informal but hugely dominate behind the scenes, chasing Netflix cheesy and Amazon prime away as predicted cheesy

Olod*!

I could mention 100 Yoruba actresses. But no time!!! Who said Netflix should not sponsor Edos if they are good enoughhuh

When did Funke join politics? Was it not 2023? Had she not blown before then? You be otondo, I swear! angry

And the few I listed are WAY ABOVE the Edo actresses you listed who are only known to you guys in Edo and maybe southern Nigeria.

Only a mor*n will rank Etinosa, Kadiri, Jegede etc etc along Joke Silva and co. Damn!!! angry

Edos are NOWHERE NEAR Yorubas in ANY POSITIVE area of life

you have lost it logically and have now turned to oshodi style of discussion and curses which you lots are known for. You do not have time to mention Yoruba actresses but have ample time to type gibberish and abuses.

Mention Yoruba actresses that have consistently graced the screen of most nollywood fans in the past three years and you're mentioning joke Silva and some unknown entities.
Before funke joined politics was she a sought-after a-list actress on the mainstream nollywood? The answer is no!
She was only known in the Yoruba circles until she became a producer and started featuring herself.

Again I ask, did Funke not join politics albeit nominally in 2023huh Did you see her in any campaignhuh

Before then was she not already an A-list actress in nollywoodhuh

Have the actresses I mentioned so far not been gracing the screens of nollywood? Yet you discredit them because of your stupid biases.

If I mention 1000, you will do the same thing - discredit them. You did not think well before you made your first assertion and now you are struggling to justify your foolish claim.

I insist, only a mor*n will rank Etinosa, Jegede, Kadiri etc etc alongside Joke Silva, Funke, Bimbo angry

Just be kidding yourself.
Why haven't you asked yourself how come Igbo films are leading on Youtube and AfricaMagic EPIC channel? What it means is that Igbo films have huge potentials, which will start showing in a huge way in a few months time. I know things you don't know about the industry. Let's leave it at that.

stop cursing. Funke akindele was never in the mainstream nollywood and Bimbo akintola, although a veteran, was never an a list actress. Funke was on Yoruba movies and a lot of nollywood fans didn't know her until she became a producer.

Producers will rank Yvonne Jegede over funke akindele as actress except they are morons too according to you. Jegede has been in the mainstream since 2000s. Comparing funke with Ruth is pure delusion in every ramification.

Mehn, are you serious with this your stupid claimshuh Are you intentionally trying to annoyhuh

When did you think Funke start acting? Did you ever watch 'I need to know'?

I never mentioned Bimbo Akintola even though she is way above any Edo actress. It was Bimbo Ademoye I mentioned.

Yvonne Jegede over Funke Akindelehuh Your head is not correct o sad

Igbo films? You mean movies done with Igbo language or you mean general English movies? I’m just trying to understand the nonsense you’re saying.

Even ordinary skits get views pass Ibo movies on YouTube. You sure say you sabi wetin you dey talk?

What the bless is Africa magic Epic? How much revenue is that useless thing bringing compared to box office and Netflix/prime movies? You think we are playing here?

Yoruba people are not your mate in virtually every metrics of comparison, let alone in movies, music, and general entertainment.

Don’t let that thinking that Ibo are majority tribe fool you bro, na you and minorities still dey drag glory. Even Benin get level pass you and those have Yoruba relationship too.
