Judolisco:Do they even do economic viability analysis of an airport? Its not by building airport but ensuring that the airport operates,Ebonyi is a typical case scenario. |

I liked your comment because am living in Abeokuta. However, let's wait and see the when the airport is completed before we can state throwing stones when we live in a glass house. Shalom bro. zero8zero: |

World class? As in Heathrow, Schipol, LAX, Singapore airport or Dubai airport, maybe even Qatar airport. My backyard in my mansion is more world class than this warehouse. |

The Ekiti Agro-Allied Airport, Ekiti State is not a project initiated by impulse, there was a detailed and strategic justification for situating the Airport in Ekiti State and also along the Ado- Ijan Road. 1, The Airport was the approved by N.A.M.A & FAAN initiated by Kayode Fayemi (Ph.D) & influenced by Aare Afe Babalola. 2, The Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) currently processes, packages and export cash crops such as Moringa, specied mangoes, pepper, smoked catfish and mushrooms. ABUAD farms is one of the most active export zones in the Axis. Afe currently exports this items, however the cargo airport will encourage backward integration between ABUAD and small holder farmers in Ekiti, Kogi and Ondo State. 3, Afe Babalola Teaching Hospital & ABUAD is one of the largest employers in Nigeria and also a tourist destinations Ekiti State as Inter- State Air- travel for HNIs had been demanded since the inception of the world class university & hospital. 4, The Airport became the contentious issue between Afe Babalola and John Kayode Fayemi (Ph.D) before the new Gov. BAO influenced the completion. 5, The Airport will thrive as there is an existing export market for ABUAD processed produce in Europe. 6, I have close ties with Government in Ekiti as such the facts are what is listed in the 1-6 summary. Congratulations BAO, Congratulations to JKF, Congratulations to Afe Babalola and Congratulations to Ekiti State. lexy2014: |

Lanruze:what concerns me with number 6? how does number 1 make any sense? were all airports in nigeria built because of one Ph.d holder and an old lawyer? what makes afe babalola university a "world class university"? when did the university and teaching hospital become a tourist destination? tourist destination for who exactly? which HNIs are you referring to? are you saying billions were spent on an airport all because of afe babalola mango and moringa? |

zero8zero:you sometimes it is good for people to understand what ROI and public interest is and how to marry the two. Building that airport is never in the interest of the state or its people, at worst that airport will experience once in a blue moon traffic, when some political elite and his or her household would be having a function that will lead to dignitaries visiting. In business parlance what ROI can the airport give to the government? Nothing because the traffic to Ekiti is not there, no airline will want to take that route because it is not profitable. Ebonyi state airport is the same thing. Where is the traffic that will necessitate revenue that can give it a positive ROI? None, how many planes in a month fly there? This was the argument on the Ebonyi airport, despite all the moves from Umahi to get government to use the airport, but to no avail, I wonder who in government does business analysis of a project idea before prioritizing. |

rhythyson:But nothing special about airport. It's just a park for Plaines to take and return passengers like Buses and ferry terminals. So I expected every state to have at least one for whoever willing to travel by air to the state. Even Some Local government should have airport in Nigeria. Imagine traveling for 3 Hours within same state by road. |

Irony1:STFU, infrastructure has time value, development will catch up with it. Ebonyi will definitely be better for it in the next 10yrs when there's more population and more grassroots development. |

zero8zero:That is never true. Time value is factored when the right forecasts are done, that is where appropriate business analysis is done. your thinking is just a dense as your moniker. You think Dubai just woke up and built infrastructure with the hope that development will catch up with it? Try and have sense small. |

Irony1:Who proposed that theory?, your empty brain?.. In the same logic, illiterates like you would have suggested Dubai was wasting resources when they were heavily investing since it was a desert and largely unhabitable. |

Airports are not just meant for planes to land carrying passengers. This is an Agro-Airport, so Ekiti must be planning to invest in Agriculture. Airports are also used for emergencies and the President would rather land in an airport than travel on the road from state to state. Every state ought to have an airport, but they should also have a plan of strategic advantage for what they want to use the airport for. I am not sure why they had the water salute. My guess is - this is not the first plane landing at this airport but I stand corrected. AngelGabbyShara: |
