Not true...They must comply with federal laws on issues relating to civil rights, employment and law enforcement procedures etc so they're not completely autonomous
They report to the state authority, not federal.

They will comply with every federal laws except if there is a state law that contradicts the federal law or a state law requires additional or different objects or items. This situation is often rare.

There was a federal law on abortion. I remember what happened on the 22nd June, 2022 where the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Roe Vs Wade was a federal law, which was upheld by the then SC judges on abortion which was also included in the constitution decades ago. The SC was approached in 2022 and it was overturned, giving the state the rights to either ban or uphold it as you've said above.

Now, the Trump's deportation order wasn't in any way close to this and as such, can't hold water in some states. They may or may not comply. That's my point. If the Chicago police are saying they'd not comply, trump can't force them to do otherwise.

Again, Trump's executive orders can't be meant to be a SC judgement which subjects it to questioning and jettisoning by state's laws. Before becoming binding up to the SC, it has to pass through their assembly in the form of a bill. Remember he did same in his first term but Biden administration struck it off? Even as of then, some states didn't comply.
These analysis are very applicable to this situation. I am expecting to see the laws of USA tested in the courts and the judiciary will decide a lot of matters with respect to Trump's Executive Orders.

Yes, Chicago is in the state of illinois and they're bound by their state's laws. Every police understands what the constitution and the federal law say. You can't say they're ignorant of the law by uttering that statement, can you? Some immigration activists are already filing a lawsuit against trump on this. He can't always have his way. The courts are there to check him and that's the beauty of democracy, unlike what we practice in Nigeria
They’re not bound by state. Immigration is on exclusive list… State cannot enforce federal laws

They’re not bound by state. Stop spewing mugunorance on HD. Since you failed govt 101. Immigration is on exclusive list… State cannot enforce it. Go back to Google and read exclusive, recurrent and residual lists
Since you're more knowledgeable than the police who understands the constitution and enforces compliance, then who am I to argue with you? I don't need Google for anything. I have a copy of the US constitution both soft and hard copies

No Sir. There was no federal law. Roe v Wade was a Supreme Court decision quashing a Texas law on abortion that was tested by a woman pseudonamed Roe. The case happened in the 70s and the SC ultimately ruled that abortion laws were part of the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution especially the fourteenth amendment.

With that, all existing state laws on abortion became dead as a dodo. It was that judgement that was overturned in a 6-3 decision in 2022 that fourteenth amendment does not cover abortion rights. That law effectively gave states the right to make abortion laws again.

So you see, there has never been any federal law on abortion. What existed was federal regulations on abortion procedures and ease of access to abortion. But no federal abortion law

That guy thinks Trump is the constitution. Just because he is the president doesn't make him the custodian of the constitution.

Alright then, I'd go back to the copy of the American constitution which termed it a federal law. I'm closing for the day. I'd do a screenshot and share with you when I get home.

By the way, Trump's executive orders can't be termed a federal law or supreme court judgement and as such, a state in the US may or may not honor it. The Chicago police who are the law enforcers who can also make an arrest and detention can't be said to be ignorant of this by saying they'd not comply. They know the constitution like they do their anthem.

It's expected.
Pritzker is a strong Trump opposer.
He'll definitely work against most of Trump's policies.
It remains to be seen how that would help Pritzker's ambition of becoming the POTUS.

Commenting on issues of which you are. Clueless.
Most people in deportation camp were originally arrested by cops before they were handed to immigration.
If the cops refuse to work with ICE, their work becomes much harder.
How many people can Immigration find and arrest in the whole of US by themselves?
They need local law enforcement cooperation to be effective.

You're technically right if you say a presidential order is not a federal law but where there's no SC judgement or act of Congress on a subject matter, a presidential order is taken as the federal law in that moment pending judicial or legislative intervention

They will oppose a govt order just because they don't like the person who made it

Fuel subsidy removal and renaming of Unilag comes to mind

Who ever thought those clowns will oppose the naming of a university after MKO?
Last I checked everyone has the right to oppose any policy of govt deemed inappropriate

This is good and true fedralism and democracy, I think Trump is being too extreme with his policies, it smells of vengence and vindictiveness, and the mayor is only loyal to the constitution not the president unlike the trash we practise here.

You don't know anything about America. It does not work like that.

Each state is independent and law enforcement agents all have jurisdiction. all agencies have Congress Acts that established them with their scope of powers.

Already 18 states and 2 Agencies have taken him to court on the constitutional infringement his executive order poses on birthright citizenship as enshrined in the constitution.

The Federal constitution has preeminence over any conflicting law. And there is a set procedure to amend any article of the constituotion. It is nearly impossible to change based on the rigorous requirements of concensus it requires in state legislatures, and both houses of the legislature.

And Americans stubborn no be small. It is gonna be a chaotic four years.

Who is talking about agenda
All through Obasanjo's term, they fought and maligned him to recognise and honour MKO

Jonathan took up the request and they rejected it

What was the reason for the change in "personal opinion" in this case? Given that this was their own agenda Jonathan was implementing not even his own
