Hello Friends,

My name is Amina Hassan, and I’m a content writer and YouTube Automation Specialist with several years of experience working as a freelancer on Upwork. It’s truly fascinating to see how individuals on platforms like this go above and beyond to share knowledge, answer questions with politeness, and even check profiles to offer constructive feedback. It’s such a positive and inspiring atmosphere.

On a lighter note, the way I stumbled into writing YouTube scripts is quite funny—I had initially signed up to ghostwrite articles, but one client asked if I could “make it sound like a video.” Let’s just say my first attempt looked more like a poorly written movie script! But after 3–6 months of trial, error, and a lot of late-night YouTube binges, it turned into a life-changing journey.

Now, I’m looking for a smart, hardworking content writer who’s new to Upwork and eager to grow. I’d like to mentor someone willing to put in the effort and learn the ropes of content creation, especially for YouTube. The only catch? You have to drop the mindset that freelancers work less than 9-to-5 employees. In reality, freelancing requires even more discipline and time management.

If you’re serious about writing, have a passion for crafting compelling YouTube scripts, and are ready, let’s connect.

Below is my profile link.

There are fintechs you can use and get your money directly in dollar and then convert. I know of Geegpay and Cleva.

A typical dev job on upwork always have an average of 20 proposals, if you don't have a strong profile ( not top rated or don't have many reviews) and you are applying to job that already has 5-10 proposal ( i won't advice to apply to job with more than 10 proposals if you are just starting up) your proposal will be kicked down by upwork algorithm, meaning your proposal might not be the first 5 the client will see when he checks proposals for his job posting if your are lucky the clients scrolls down and see your proposal, One thing i always do is try to capture the client's attraction in the first sentence of my proposal, upwork will only show the first say 15 words from your proposal so you want to make sure that your first 15 words of your proposal is spot on, don't go beating about the bush listing your experience, sure you can do that but save it for the next paragraph, Your first sentence should show that you actually read the client's job description, to me i think that's what most client looks for first, someone that actually read the job description and not someone that is sending template.
You posted this in 2021. I hadn't joined upwork in 2021, so I don't know how things were then. I joined last year tho.

And I can tell you in all confidence that clients don't read proposals of freelancers. Infact since I started submitting proposals on upwork, only 2 has been viewed and I got a notification for that. Anybody can use chatgtp to write a proposal so they don't take it serious.

All the jobs I've gotten so far, my proposal wasn't viewed. The clients just mailed me directly and we discussed.

I think the secret is to set up a very captivating profile. Cos clients check your profile more than they do your proposal. Upload projects and jobs you've done in the past on your profile. Upload certifications, awards, anything you know that can give you an upper hand.

If you don't have any major tech skill, just fill your profile with IT support, virtual assistant and customer support roles, then subscribe for their monthly job notifications (it's free)

The upwork algorithm would send you dozens virtual assistant job roles to apply for. If you're luck you might just get it.

The pay is between $3-$10 per hour depending on the client and the role you'll be doing. Just accept it and keep growing your badge until you get to expert level.

Cost of naira to buy connects is the main issue. Too much of a risk, I would advise people to try LinkedIn or Reddit and once they make some money they can invest on Upworks.
The problem I have with upwork on this their connect jobs is that most clients still leave their job ads open even after getting the hands they need. Thus making people waste their connects apply for them.

I applied for a particular project management job is saw on the 20th of December. (normally I do save jobs I apply for so that I can follow it and know what's up) the client reached out 2 days later, fixed an interview twice and hired myself and someone else.

When I checked the job is saw 2 hires yet the job was still open. Someone who doesn't know his way around upwork would just waste his connects applying for it.

There should be a connects refund system for jobs that no longer exists. Cos spending $45 to buy 300 connects no be beans.

Please does anyone here have clients that pay you directly? How do you get paid? Payoneer is beginning to frustrate me and geegpay takes forever
Geegpay doesn't take forever. At most 12 hours.

If you move your money from upwork to geegpay by 6pm, before you wake up the following day, your money would be staring at you.

Geegpay is still the best.

Hey do you mean you can apply for a job, the client won’t view or interview you but they can still reach out directly to hire you?

Or do you mean you just get invites from random client all the time?

No client would hire you without interviewing you. Interviews basically are set up for them to tell you what they expect you to do for them.

But they can send you an invite directly without having to read your proposal. And this would be done if they're impressed with the quality of your profile.

This is why it's always good to have clients you've worked for leave a positive review on your profile. Most clients prefer freelancers with experience, so once they come across your profile, they'll just send out an invite without them opening your proposal. I've experienced that several times.

If your proposal is viewed, you'll get a direct notification from upwork once you log in and and email notification.

That's why I would advice freelancers to spend quality time building their profile than writing proposals.

If you've completed 49 jobs and have about 40 positive reviews on your profile, you're supposed to be on expert level by now. In fact you should have clients who would just message you directly whenever they want a job done because they've worked with you in the past and you delivered.

dreamxhaser:

Based on your level, you wouldn't need any trick. Cos tricks are mainly for newbies who are still struggling to land their first job.

Look at it this way, if you worked with a client on a project and he really enjoyed your service, if he has any projects, he'll just message you directly because he has worked with you before and add you to the team. And he'll keep doing that cos he already believes in you.

So his reviews along with other reviews of other customers would qualify you for in invite from upwork to a higher badge.

Most clients tend to retain good freelancers for future jobs.

If you're still looking for a trick to get more jobs after completing 49 skilled jobs on upwork, omo something is wrong somewhere. Cos I don't think anyone on this thread has completed up to 49 jobs.

Honestly I’ve been wondering why I don’t get invites. Like it’s as if the Upwork algorithm doesn’t favor me. Most of my reviews are 5 star with a few 4 stars. The bad reviews there are not up to 5.

Regarding the return clients. I have worked with a few who came back for more jobs. But most of them were one time articles, blog post and books (before the Ai destroyed the article writing industry).

I focus more on book and YouTube script writing now. And relay on sending proposals to get new jobs.

Last year I dumped Upwork, focused on Fiverr though and i made a lot on Fiverr. Completed only four jobs on Upwork.

But let’s see how it goes.

Ok.

Let me answer the question you asked in your previous post.

When a client posts a job, sometimes he goes offline and comes back in a couple of hours to see the numbers of proposals that have been submitted. When he comes back online, upwork algorithm would move available freelancers to his top list meaning if you're offline there's a very high possibility that you wouldn't be sent an invite.

How did I know this? It was upwork who told me this through a message they sent to me advertising their availability badge. They told me that if I buy it (about 12 connects or so per week can't remember again) I would always be available to clients for jobs even when I'm offline. So I bought it.

Another way is to subscribe to upwork monthly job notifications (that one is free) once you get a job notification that matches your skill, apply immediately when proposals sent are still less than 5. Then keep refreshing the page and monitoring the client. Sometimes the client would remain there and go through the profiles of freelancers. So keep refreshing so that the algorithm would wouldn't remove you from the list of available freelancers. If you're lucky they'll send you an invite.

Finally like I said, you must have a very rich profile. Your profile determines whether or not clients would reach out to you.

So you get a connect refund when:

1. A top client responds to your proposal
2. Job is cancelled

It's not easy

1. It's almost impossible for top clients to reach out to you unless you're on expert level and have a trailer load of completed projects up your sleeves.

2. I used to think that if a client is suspended connects would be refunded. Cos I've once seen a job where when I tried to apply I was told that the client is suspended. So those who applied would their connects be refunded? I've never experienced job cancelation before tho.

I used ChatGPT, but I tend to use LinkedIn, get their email and see what their product is around, then generate a portfolio so I could show them, it's easier than just asking for job without portfolio.

Any niche that has to do with service always has the highest demand and highest job competition because they require less tech skills. Niches like virtual assistant, data entry, social media manager, sales rep, marketing...etc.
