He might have won about two more champions league, as he has had some very technical players that will easily adapt, but what will Xavi for instance be doing when the midfield is bypassed.
I feel you, trust me. I have my grievances with Pep but today, I dey celebrate 🍾 am.

Fernandinho played for City for 9 years and could not deliver a CL

Rodri came and did it in under 5 years along with only the second ever treble in English football history

Rodri won the ballon d'or (debatable, but even having him in the conversation alone is enough) as a DM

Fernandinho ko, Archduke Franz Ferdinand ni
Nigga STFU

You might as well tell us Makelele could not produce UCL for Chelsea but frigging Obi Mikel did

We are talking of a consistency of a DM, as measured by points tally which Fernandinho delivered, you are talking of cup competition where anything can happen

Rodri against the Liverpool Fernandinho faced and overcame will produce exactly ZERO league titles

I don dey suspect that Sanchez, he is a gambler as Diggs always call him.

Meanwhile, Maresca not seeing anything wrong with Sanchez and Jackson and the need for them to be replaced, is sackable.

Our main striker getting removed at 61st minute because of poor performance is enough reason to get a better striker before this window closes. But it's Nateevs and his friends making terrible transfer decisions for the team, looking for Garnacho up and down. Trouble looms. angry

He is not the first to slip or be outmuscled by Haaland, dem plenty for that table. What matters is he'd done enough to slow Haaland down to where Cuku had caught up, but Sanchez decided to wreck everything
Very sagacious point you made there 😀 but if he was still on his feet and in good position rather than lying prostrate on the floor like an obsequious serf he might have been in position to block the shot.

Sanchez clowned up there but your boy did not cover himself in glory either.

Forget Haaland, just replace Jackson with even Amokachi of USA 94, that would have been a goal off his left foot. You should have given a better excuse like, his left leg being a walking stick.

That ball could only be shot well by Palmer with his weak right foot which might not be well-executed as the keeper had come out to narrow the goal. Playing the ball to a wasteful striker like Jackson who can't use his left leg to juggle the ball 5 times, was actually erroneous.

Jackson wouldn't have scored this ball rolling away from goal, with a one-time shot. angry

Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Roland17(m): 3:46am On Jan 26, 2025
I am not sure why but Maresca approached City aggressively with how he used the high line and press. The high line left acres of space behind the defense and against a City attack that is fueled by pace, you are asking for trouble.

Ibime:
The fact is as I've always said, there is no space for no 10 in modern football

No 10 must be able to press and drop in midfield

Palmer was better as our RW than as our no 10, simple.
But klopp and arteta uses them perfectly ...

They should either be converted to a proper mf or played as false 9 ..

Even slot uses one as a midfielder now .. Elliott, szobozai, Curtis Jones .. they're all 10s..

Jackson 80%
and palmer 20%

The keeper close up palmer and made himself big. (although palmer could have shot earlier)

But Jackson mumu as usual after receiving that pass that he supposed to shoot one time.

Oga Nateevs. Please let us not airmarkify this conversation. When Poch was here, the narrative was "it is all on the manager, another manager will handle these players better". You yourself said you'd never criticize the players until you saw them under another manager. A.K.A they will cook under another manager.

You even did victory laps here. No backpedalling. I like the energy. Let us keep it the same. No need for "give him the right tools". I've not made any conclusions on EM. He can still finish top 3 and the difference will be clear, but your arguments here won't hold up if he finishes below 6th - I'll tell you that.

Siddonlookmode.
You have completely misunderstood context here. I say this again.....

This season alone, Maresca has played 4 at the back, 3 at the back, inverted left back, inverted right back, inverted LB into 6, inverted LB into 8. Inverted RB into 6, inverted RB into 8. 2 attacking 8s, 2 defensive 6s, one DM, and one floating 6/8..... Palmer on the right 8, Palmer on the left 8.........To add to this, he's played high block, medium block, and low block at different times in the season.... all in a bid to achieve results.

Whilst at this, with largely the same players, no team has completely outplayed us all season. We've looked at every moment capable of dispersing any team, technically and tactically. Arsenal, a title competing side last season played defensively against us in our first meeting. That's fucking miles of progress in less than 6 months. Again, with largely the same players.

For context, Poch played almost the exact same way every single game, until the last 5, where he started inverting only the LB. In fact, it was the only clear formation/tactical modification he tried all season. We were lucky he was trying it out for the last 5 games of the season. By the 6th games, teams would have started to figure out how to play us, and we would have been back to no- clue management style. This was a guy who was playing Colwill at LB, Chilwell at LW.

We were out-played almost every single game, losing embarrassingly to Arsenal 5-0, and couldn't beat Liverpool kids with a full strength squad.

He played all season long with no identifiable pattern of attack, tactics or player development.

In contrast Maresca has shown us the capability of every single player, and possibly, the limit of every single player.

As opposed to Maresca, Poch had the autonomy of identifying the talents of Andrey Santos, Lewis Hall, Angelo Gabriel, Ian Maatsen, but didn't. Instead, sent them all out on loan. Instead he played his first 11 into the ground running running running, instead of tactical work, as corroborated by even his own players.

So yes, pound for pound, Maresca has shown with less autonomy, power, and manegerial experience that he can do more with less and inexperienced resources.

And so yes, Maresca deserves more tools, more time, more support.

It's not contradicting argument.

Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by hensben(m): 6:44am On Jan 26, 2025
Without the ball Enzo is not mobile, his game will suit la liga more. I want to see midfield of Tchouameni, Santos, Caceido, Palmer and Lavia next season.

Btw, Palmer shouldn’t have thought of passing to Jackson and go for the goal.

Last season, Poch dropped Sanchez and we became stable to a certain level but Maresca insist on playing him this time, this alone is enough to shake already shaken defense.

Colwill is not all that to be guaranteed first 11 shirt, Tosin would’ve done better in this game; his passes and threat in set piece would’ve helped.

From here, I expect three winning streak. No excuse.
