Lt. Col. T.E. Alari, a Fearless Leader and Defender of the Nation

In the face of unparalleled danger, there are individuals who embody the true essence of courage, leadership, and sacrifice. Lt. Col. T.E. Alari was one such man a gallant officer who stood as a bulwark against terror, giving his life so others might live in peace.

The Commanding Officer of the 149 Battalion, Lt. Col. Alari, was a nightmare to insurgents. His resolute determination and strategic brilliance in combat had dealt devastating blows to the ranks of ISWAP, earning him a reputation as a fearless leader who did not shy away from leading from the front. His name struck fear into the hearts of terrorists, and his presence on the battlefield inspired confidence among his troops.

On Jan. 24, 2025, while leading an operation in the Timbuktu Triangle, a bastion of terrorist activity in Damboa, Lt. Col. Alari once again demonstrated the true essence of leadership. Under his command, the 149 Battalion had successfully disrupted insurgent strongholds, neutralizing scores of terrorists and forcing them into retreat. But in a desperate last ditch effort, ISWAP insurgents deployed a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) against his troops.

The VBIED was intercepted and destroyed by the troops, but the shrapnel from the explosion tragically took the lives of those closest to the blast, including Lt. Col. Alari, who, as always, was at the front, leading his men. Even in the face of certain death, his bravery remained unwavering a true testament to his character.

Lt. Col. Alari was not just a soldier; he was a protector, a mentor, and a patriot. His relentless pursuit of justice and his commitment to the safety of his country will forever be remembered. He epitomized the qualities of a selfless leader always prioritizing the wellbeing of his troops and the mission above his own safety.

Beyond the battlefield, Lt. Col. Alari was a devoted son, husband, and father. His family, though bereaved, can take solace in the legacy he leaves behind a legacy of valor, service, and love for his nation.

As Nigeria mourns the loss of one of its finest, we must honor his memory by continuing the fight he so bravely led. Lt. Col. T.E. Alari’s sacrifice will not be in vain. His name will forever be etched in the annals of history as a hero who stood against terror and gave his all for his country.

Rest in peace, gallant soldier. Nigeria owes you a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.

Re: Photo Of Lt. Col. T.E. Alari, Commanding Officer Killed By Boko Haram In Borno by Dogalmighty17:
When will the Nigerian army stop this needless waste of the lives of its men? What is an FOB without air cover? How can an attack go unchallenged for hours and an airstrike wasn't called in? We waste billions in buying combat platforms and yet we lack the skills and know how to effectively use them.

It is a disgrace that our military would rather prefer to carry millions of dollars to buy fighter jets and helicopters that cannot give immediate eyes on the ground capabilities that a 5000 dollar FPV drone can. That is incompetence as far as I'm concerned.

Shocking thing is that boko haram carries out this attack and returns to their base without our military even knowing where the base is located. A cheap drone that hovers over the theatre can trail these attackers to thier base and the coordinates pin pointed for eventually strikes. We have none of that.

A competent armed force doesn't experience this kind of humiliation. Certainly not with the billions of defense dollars we have expended over the years. That it keeps happening is very shameful. It calls into question the training of our officers and men.

There's a combat footage going around where hundreds of jihadists were attacking a Burkinabe military base. What did the Burkinabe soldiers do? The sent a drone up that was giving them real time video feed of terrorist movements around the base. They then deployed a Bayraktar drone that with just 2 strikes, killed over a hundred jihadists. The rest of the terrorists got the message and fled. Not one soldier in that base lost his life. Does Nigeria not have far more money than Burkina Faso? Yet we don't even have a Bayraktar and this is something Turkey even gives for free.

The day we are ready for this thing to end it will end. But so long as people are using this thing to cash out, it will never end. Boko haram is a business the elite are using to cash out. That's the only way the incompetence of our armed forces can be explained.

I can't figure out why that attack lasted for hours and there was no air backup to help the fighting soldiers.
One helicopter gunship would have overpowered the terrorist.
Why will our young and promising Soldiers be dieing in the Field everytime.
Nigerians need an explanation from the Army COAS.
Rest in Peace to all the Gallant officers.

15 century army. Thats what they have.
I remember writing here few years back that the inability of the Nigerian army to flush out the unknown gunmen domiciled in the Orlu areas of Imo State amounts to a national emberassment, and some government hirelings here started vomiting nonsense. Orlu is such a small place. The areas the militants operate in , are even much smaller. More like a large backyard bush! I'm telling you the truth. If not that the locals do have some sympathies for the boys, ordinary vigilantes will chase them out in a week. But how many years now? Uptil this day, the ubiquitous Nigerian army is still struggling to enter that bush.

NAF or Navy will never allow an attack of this magnitude on their base. Why always Army?? Yet they claim they're no 1 in the AFN. No 1 na by mouth?? sad

It sounds funny but sad to note
I know the capabilities and capacities of the Nigerian Army but what we have now, even boys scout can hold them to ransom simply because politics have overridden the fabrics of military professionalism

A soldier in Sambisa once told me years back that these terrorists are seen and live amongst them in the area but there was no political will to flush them out. There and then I knew we have entered one-chance
The worst form of politics is playing politics with human lives
