An unconfirmed number of persons died in a fuel tanker explosion at Ugwu Onyeama, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, a few kilometres from the Enugu metropolis, on Saturday, News360 Nigeria reports.

However, although some reports put the casualties figure at over 10, we have not been able to verify it, and none of the emergency responders have made a statement.

The explosion was said to have occurred around 11:30 a.m., when a tanker laden with petrol exploded on the very busy road.

According to eyewitnesses, the effects of the explosion were very devastating, as it destroyed many nearby vehicles, besides killing many persons.

The intensity of the fire was said to have thwarted rescue efforts.

The victims, who were reportedly burnt beyond recognition, are believed to be occupants of the vehicles caught in the inferno.

The Police and road safety authorities were yet to confirm the number of casualties or the cause of the explosion, at the time of filing this report.

Let it not be those army checkpoints that caused this. Many accidents along that road happen when the army checkpoints block traffic pretending to search for their heads and then a truck will fail break and be speeding down that hill, it had even killed many people before.

I learnt there are 2 or 3 checkpoints along that short road.

Why can't this tankers with highly flammable liquid operate in night,is it that the government can't put laws towards this or the benefits from this

The police and army should be ranked the highest leading cause of death in Nigeria.

Why the Nigerian army, road safety and police put a checkpoint/roadblock at the base of a steep hill is what I don't really understand. Every 3-6 months there must be a fatal accident on that spot still they will not remove it.

No matter how careful you are in Nigeria, the things or people that are made to protect you will finally kill you.

so others taking night journey like abc nd cisco, de do fly, here in my state u don't operate by night as a trailer of any kind ,ask any one in owerri,there are task force,the and this will mk it minimal nd not much fatality incase of occurrence like dis

Am sure your myopia didn't allow you see that the cases are different. The other one was people criminally scooping fuel from a fallen tanker while this one is an accident when a vehicle failed brake, ran into some vehicles and caught fire instantly.

Am sure your generational madness won't allow you understand the difference.

Occurencens around me are normal, I am witnessing an increase that you can only dream about.
