Re: Togo Set To Dump ECOWAS For AES by Truthcat: 1:03am On Jan 23, 2025
Why can’t you guys move on with your EAS or whatever it’s called and let ECOWAS be?
Let people who want to be together do so and let others be.
All the aggression against people who do not see things the way you do is the reasons countries get involved in arms race. You guys should forget about ECOWAS if these Sahel countries are doing well, but it seems they are in a free fall and need others to hold onto or blame.

Mr/Ms Ojutana, thank you for taking the time to send me these links.
However, none of them reported a declaration of war.

Let me educate you a bit if you would allow me, I’ll only state facts and I hope you consider them objectively without bias. Below are the facts:

1. Niger underwent a coup.
2. Coup is mostly discouraged.
3. Ecowas was morally justified to speak or act against coups.
4. Ecowas was right to place sanctions on this country in the hope of getting them back to democratic rule.
5. These sanctions have been lifted.
6. Ecowas, not Tinubu, as a bloc decided to consider military intervention in the hope of getting back to democratic rule.
7. The decision for military intervention was just a bluff to scare Nigerien soldiers back to democracy, no soldier was ever deployed.
8. Tinubu informed the national assembly of plans to deploy soldiers as other Ecowas presidents would. This was to reinforce the bluff.
9. International politics is a different ball game.
10. I encourage you to fact check all I’ve stated and welcome arguments or discussions based on verifiable facts.

You're simply attempting revision of facts.
Can you show any cogent proof that Tinubu was simply bluffing? Where did he say so and at what forum?

Ecowas existed before Tinubu and has witnessed multiple coups, most recently twice before Tinubu took office yet, Ecowas never threatened nor declared war on such members.

Writing to the senate to deploy troops to another country can't be seen as a bluff in diplomatic circles and is one of the reasons why Niger and co. exited Ecowas.

Even if it was a bluff which it was not, it was a stupid bluff and very shabby diplomacy. You don't use war to bluff against a sovereign country much less one that shares direct borders with you. War is not a joke.

Even Trump as clownish as he is when asked if he will consider military option against Canada his neighbours, he outrightly said No cause he recognised the implication of threatening war against your neighbours bluff or not.

Only three presidents out of the then 15 informed their parliament of the plan to deploy troops against Niger and Nigeria's was loudest because in diplomatic circles, it is known that Nigeria is Ecowas and Ecowas is Nigeria, more so when Tinubu is the chair.

As you rightly noted, international politics is a different ball game and Tinubu played it like a western puppet

That no single solider was deployed is all the proof you need that it was a bluff.

You’re yet to show me where or how Tinubu declared a war on Niger.

Let’s stick to facts and not emotion, arguing with you based on your emotional interpretations is tiring.

Neither Tinubu nor ECOWAS declared war on Niger and that’s facts.

If you’re interested in interacting with me based on facts, I’m open to learning.

I don’t think you understand what a declaration of war is. War is not joke, and for it to be declared it has to be said outrightly ie “Nigeria is at war with Niger” or by action ie Nigerian soldiers on ground inside Niger or violently trying to gain entry into Niger.

You can’t say a war is declared without any of the above occurring. When sanctions were issued, it was outright said and actions like border closure were taken.

War is no joke, and international politics is not for the understanding of all.

For your learning, this is a list of military interventions in Ecowas countries where coup occurred https://www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2023/8/1/timeline-a-history-of-ecowas-military-interventions-in-three-decades

This is what Ecowas under Tinubu’s leadership was trying to achieve but many of you have bias and prejudice because you don’t like a certain person.

Do research, learn, and don’t spread false information.

You're now blatantly lying and you're the one who was asking for facts. Tinubu could not deploy soldiers because his request was rejected by the senate and the constitution does not allow him to deploy troops outside our territory without senate approval.

https://gazettengr.com/senate-rejects-tinubus-request-to-invade-niger-republic/

The Nigerian President cannot unilaterally declare war on a country. He must first seek senate approval.

I already showed you two links reporting that Tinubu was angling to declared war on Niger which you deflected as bluffing.

So I don't know what you mean by I'm yet to show you.

It is obvious you don't understand international relations. Ordinary mobilising to send troops to another country without the country's approval is a declaration of war on the country.

If we're to go with your definition, Russia is not calling their fight with Ukraine a war. Putin claims it's a special military operation to rid Ukraine of nazi elements while the rest of the world is calling it a war. So you agree with Putin and disagree with the rest of the world?

Conversely, if you claim that any deployment of troops is an act of war, do you mean France had been at war with its former colonies in Africa since they had troops on ground there?

Go and read the link you dropped. All of the examples listed were ecomog peacekeeping missions. The only one that's not a peacekeeping mission is that of the Sierra Leone in 1997 and that was because the country was already at war and the military that was fighting on the side of govt joined forces with the rebels to oust the civilian govt. Ecomog mindful of the instability that followed moreso with what they were dealing with in neighbouring Liberia quickly moved in to restore order. At the end of the fracas, the rebels were given the Vice Presidency while Kabbah was reinstalled as president. You can see that in all these cases, all the countries were at war and ecomog moved in to restore peace at the invitation of the sitting govts and not necessarily to quell coups. So stop comparing apples with oranges

So the one that you pointed out in Sierra Leone, was it termed a war or intervention?

France having boots on ground in those countries was a result of agreement not by force, do I have to spell it out to you?

You keep saying angling to declare war, how’s that the same as declaring war?

“The Senate recognises the fact that President Tinubu, by the virtue of his correspondence, has not asked that we should approve a request to go to war, but he expressed a wish to solicit support in the successful implementation of the ECOWAS communique,” Mr Akpabio said after a two-hour closed-door session on Saturday.

The above paragraph is from the link you shared, the senate that the request was sent to acknowledges that it’s not a request to go to war but you keep saying declare war. Is that how they declare war?

The whole of Ecowas took a decision to consider military intervention yet you’re twisting it to mean Tinubu declared war. None of the links you sent mentioned a declaration of war but I guess you’re repeating it to believe it.

Look it is either you admit that Tinubu was bluffing by threatening war on Niger or insist that he never declared war. You're arguing that he never declared war and in the next breath you'll claim it was a bluff. Stay one place.

I sent you two links initially before that last one of the senate rejecting his request.

This is an excerpt from the first link

“Military build up and deployment of personnel for military intervention to enforce compliance of the military junta in Niger should they remain recalcitrant.”

This is part of the ecowas resolution which Tinubu chaired. See the screenshot below from the second link. These are two reputable news outlets reporting same thing but I'm to believe you who can't get your story straight.
Even the third link has an headline that Tinubu seeks support of senate to invade Niger so what is an invasion?

Sierra Leone was a peacekeeping mission though without invitation of Kabbah whose govt controlled only the capital Freetown while the rest of the country was under rebel rule. Ecowas did not go there to quell the coup but to ensure stability so that the killing, raping, arson and looting going on will not spread to neighbouring Liberia that was having similar issues with ecomog also in ground there. To all intent and purpose, ecomog is not going to those countries to effect a change of govt or install a preferred govt but to maintain peace. That's why in that same Sierra Leone, the vice presidency was given to the rebels by the same ecomog. How do you hand over the vice presidency to people you want to kick out of power?

You can claim it was an Ecowas decision but Tinubu was the chairman of Ecowas and the new president of Nigeria who was seen as trying to take a hard-line approach to coups. Unfortunately he failed. Even AU had to caution him about becoming a puppet to western interests.

https://www.france24.com/en/africa/20230816-%F0%9F%94%B4-live-african-union-and-ecowas-at-odds-over-intervention-in-niger-on-eve-of-summit

So is it that AU too did not realise that Tinubu was bluffing or they were also ignorant to think it was not a threat of war?

Tinubu never threatened war.

The content of a link stated the fact that the senate which the correspondence was sent to acknowledged it wasn’t a declaration of war but you’re quoting a sensational headline as fact of declaration.

Same way you quoted just the heading of the so called AU rejection when its content says the council has not taken a stance.

You should google what a declaration of war looks like to update your knowledge.

I’ve attached the AU news you misrepresented, look at the last paragraph which is the content of the sensational headline you posted and reported.

You have started lying blatantly again.

The last paragraph says a statement has not been issued by AU. How does that mean the council was yet to take a stance. Do you even know what you're saying?

Did you miss below in the report?

Speaking to FRANCE 24’s sister station RFI, a diplomat who attended the meeting said many southern and northern African member countries were “fiercely against any military intervention”.

Here's also an NGO that monitors war and threats of war among nations reporting same thing about threat of military intervention.

https://www.crisisgroup.org/africa/sahel/niger/ecowas-nigeria-and-niger-coup-sanctions-time-recalibrate

Even the citizens of Niger staged a protest against Ecowas and Tinubu for threatening them with war

You're only trying to rewrite history but unfortunately there are too many documentation from reputable sources.

Akpabio who read the debate resolution noted that Tinubu did not ask for a declaration of war to cool down public anxiety over the matter given how the North especially was vehemently against the idea. Why did Tinubu write to deploy troops to Niger before?

Were they being deployed to carry out Gulder ultimate search?

Rest with your ostrich moves abeg

You’re ignorant, arrogant, and ill-informed.

If a statement of stance has not been released by the council, how then did you arrive at your conclusion that they rejected the war.

Apkabio that received Tinubu’s correspondence has said it wasn’t a request for the declaration of war but you are here concluding and interpreting wrongly to push your own personal narrative.

Hows a protest against something that has not happened a statement of fact that something indeed was intended to happen.

I won’t waste any further time trying to convince you, you’re irredeemable.

Always learn to read. A diplomat who was present at the meeting to deliberate the matter informed radio france of the stance of most Northern and southern African countries.

In fact, Libya, Chad and Algeria were tapped to implement some of the sanctions especially the border closure and they refused.

I already showed you news from a reputable news source that AU rejected the war threat

Akpabio was only playing theatrics because of the north's opposition to the intent to levy war on Niger. Every living human in Nigeria knew what was going on except you obviously

Threatening a nation with invasion because of a coup has never happened in Ecowas or AU until Tinubu

Tinubu fvcked up badly. You may be his sycophant but that can't change the fact that he mishandled the issue like a neophyte to impress the West and Ecowas is still paying for it till today
