Sowore Granted Bail, Rejects Bail Conditions, Offers To Remain In Police Custody by Georgry(op): 2:23pm On Jan 27, 2025

Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate and activist, said he has been granted bail on Monday, January 27, 2025, following an engagement with the Force Intelligence Department of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja.

Sowore was recently summoned to address several allegations which include disobedience to lawful orders, obstructing public officers, cyberstalking and acts allegedly intended to prevent arrests.

Announcing his release in a post, the activist said the Deputy Inspector-General of the FID, Dasuki Galandachi, informed him of the bail offer pending the conclusion of an “investigation.”

“The DIG of FID, Dasuki Galandachi, at the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja had just informed me that he has instructed his personnel to grant me bail, pending the conclusion of the “investigation,” he wrote.

He said he has advised the DIG that in accepting the “bail”, he won’t agree to conditions that compromise his innocence, dignity, and integrity.

“If such unreasonable conditions are imposed, I will choose to remain in detention until I am charged to court, even then I know that there is no crime defined or to be investigated it is just the impunity that has become the hallmark of the PoliceNG hierarchy,” he said.

According to him, he is being targeted by the police because of his criticism against the tenure extension for Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police.

The activist also alleged that the police planned to detain him and take him to Lagos for a kangaroo trial.

If Sowore ever becomes the president of Nigeria, there will be an exodus of the political class, corrupt business men and security operatives out of this country.

It was an administrative bail, i think, as he was yet to be arraigned in court. They should be able to arraign him inside 48hrs except they get an extension order from the court

They won't beg him to leave. You cannot shame the shameless.

One police officer told me that it's not good to pay policemen well because if you do, they'll start feeling too big to stand in the sun by roadside and check vehicles.

In other words, they augment their poor salaries with what they make from the roadsides and if you start paying them well, standing by the roadside becomes needless.
