Lagos Lawyer Arrested For Allegedly Forging Documents To Obtain Loan by BadNews(op): 2:08pm On Jan 28, 2025
A Lagos based lawyer, Chinwe Onuoha, has been arrested for alleged forgery of documents to obtain a bank facility.

She was arrested on January 22, 2025 in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The lawyer was alleged to have forged lease agreement in respect of a property located at Teachers Estate in Ikorodu, Lagos which she reportedly submitted to the Bank of Industry to obtain a loan for her pure water production business.

The officers of the Special Fraud Unit, SFU, who carried out the operations reported that they tracked down the lawyer to Ikorodu on the said date after she had been severally invited to their station to answer the said allegation of forgery of documents against her but she refused to honor the invitation.

An Eye witness, who was at the scene of arrest, stated that the lawyer wanted to run into the court premises to evade the arrest but was not allowed by the securities at the gate of the court premises and was therefore nabbed on the road around 7.30pm that day.

The Commissioner of Police of the Special Fraud Unit, Ayo Omodeinde who confirmed the arrest said she was arrested based on a complaint of forgery submitted to his office since June 2024 and that the lawyer is in their custody for interrogation while the matter is under investigations to unravel the facts of the matter.

“The lawyer was alleged to have forged the Lease Agreement between her and her landlady and also forged the signature of her Landlady Ngozi Uzoma and a witness named Titilayo Opeyemi and submitted the said forged lease Agreement with the forged signatures to the Bank of Industry to borrow money.”

*The ripple effect of kindness*

A man was hired to paint a boat. With his paint, brushes, and a steady hand, he began coating the boat in a vibrant red, as the owner had requested. As he worked, he noticed a small hole in the hull, barely noticeable to the untrained eye. Without saying a word, he repaired it, considering it part of his job.

Once he finished painting, the owner paid him, and the man left, content with his day's work. The next morning, however, the owner returned, with an amount far more generous than what was owed for the painting.

Surprised, the painter asked, "Sir, you've already paid me for the paint job. What is this for?"

The owner smiled and said, "This isn’t for the painting. It’s for fixing the hole in the boat."

The painter, puzzled, replied, "But that was such a small thing, certainly not worth this amount."

"My friend, you don’t understand," the owner began. "When I asked you to paint the boat, I even forgot about the hole myself. After you finished and the paint dried, my children took the boat out on a fishing trip without telling me. I was away, and when I got home, I was horrified to realize they had gone out in a boat with a hole in the hull."

The painter listened intently as the man continued, his voice now thick with emotion.

"I was terrified, thinking they might never return. But when they came back safely, I rushed to check the boat and found that you had repaired the hole. You didn’t just fix a boat—you saved my children’s lives. That’s something I can never fully repay."

The painter stood silent, absorbing the weight of the man’s words.

The owner added softly, "Sometimes, the smallest gestures can have the greatest impact. What seemed insignificant to you meant the world to me."

In life, we may unknowingly fix many “holes” for others—offering help, mending hearts, or simply being there when needed. We often don't realize how much those small actions can mean to someone else.

You never know when your quiet kindness might save a life. Keep helping, keep caring, for the world needs more boat painters

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Do not consider any good deed as insignificant, even if it is just meeting your brother with a cheerful face." (Sahih Muslim)

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said “ *Whoever guides someone to goodness will have a reward like one who did it.”*
(Sahih Muslim 1893)

"And keep reminding, because reminding benefits the believers."(51:55)

This lawyer has seriously disgraced her profession by allegedly forging documents to secure a loan. Such unethical behavior not only tarnishes her reputation but could also cost her the NBA practice license and even lead to being debarred. Lawyers are meant to uphold the law, not break it for personal gain. If found guilty, this could serve as a harsh reminder that no one is above the law, not even those trained to defend it.
