Americans themselves are the first market. How many goods from the US do Colombians and Chinese buy?

If US produces goods only for its citizens alone, that is huge. Then, they have partners like the UK and top EU nations.

Real markets are in the US, UK, top EU with high GDPs like Luxembourg, Germany, France, etc. Then, talk of oil rich Saudi, UAE. Also...you may think it is insignificant but Nigeria is of better use to the world market than South Africa and Colombia. Do you know the meaning of over 250million population? Yes, poor, but just 5% of 250million that are really rich. .....they are better market than many nations.

This has always been my argument on the minimum wage in Nigeria. The minimum wage is a blessing but we don't know how to capitalize on that.

Cheap wages mean cheaper cost of production, and more companies coming in to produce which will translate to more jobs in the country, the things being produced will also be cheap and affordable to the citizens despite the small wages.

We need to start producing strategic things needed in the production process.

Citing the Dangote refinery as an example. Almost everything used to build the plant was sourced overseas with the high wages in countries like the US already infused to their cost. Even with the naira for crude policy, petrol prices will not come down until the cost of building the refinery has been offset.

If the things used to build the refinery were mostly produced in the country, the cost of building the refinery and the cost of crude would have been cheap resulting in cheap petroleum products.
