If you're referring to the bible.then u must know that love of God should be stronger in the Sense that you must obey him..take a look at 1Cor 11:14 and 1 Tim.2:9,10.at 1Tim the Bible was talking to women but the principle equally applies to Christian men.so if a woman is to be modest and Goldy in her appearance how much the men too.take a keen look at the verse 10...my dear, there are things that are of the world and there are things that are Christlike in line with the bible, learn to separate the lines.the 2 don't mix,

Some cultures can practise wrong things but it's easier to decipher what's wrong from what is not.
God gave us the 10 commandments and even when Jesus came and was asked which is the greatest commandant he said "Love".
Love the Lord your God and love your neighbour as yourself. These two commandments summarise the 10 commandments.
Now the point is, cannibalism or other harmful cultural practices are directly against the commandments. You are not showing love to your neighbour whom you've killed for food.
Apply the principle of love in anything you do and you can tell if it's a sin or not

How do you define the things that are of the worldly? You don't do that based on cultural or human acceptance because the criteria might chance from person to person or community to community. To determine modesty in dressing, apply the principle of love... If you are not modest in dressing, i.e you are dressing seductively, opening parts of your body parts that should be covered, then you are tempting your male neighbour. That is against the law of love which says love your neighbour. If you love your neighbour, you won't put them into temptation.

Plaiting of hair is just fashion. Because it was only seen amongst female in Nigeria, it was deemed inappropriate for male to do. Humans were designed by God to have different preferences. God himself made some people have curly hair, some long hairs etc.
Let me give you this example, Calabar people kill and eat dogs at will but a white man will see the act as wicked and stupid. It doesn't make it sin.

Have you asked yourself why plaiting of hair is sin for men and not sin for women? And you will respond by saying society. Societies do not determine God's ways because each society preferences are unique. And there are no gender specific sin.

Each society is unique, true.but christians everywhere no matter what society they come from, they allow the bible to guide them in their conduct.so even if they chose different fashion styles according to the society they come from (like tying of wrappers here and wearing of suits over there in the west), they don't go to the extreme, Because males in the western lands wear earrings, sag their underpants, practice homosexuality, color their hairs etc.a true Christian there will not want to practice such lifestyles as at doesn't mirror Bible principles, same too will a true Christian in Africa and elsewhere do the same thing like his brother in the west...for us as christian the societies we live in doesn't determine how we serve God,rather the Bible does.
