Bottom line is, Nigeria can't fund the HIV projects. Our youths are so misinformed that they don't know how to put leaders (religious, political and social) leaders in thier place. We've allowed our religious and ethnic differences to cause all types of negativity amongst us. Our health system is so flawed that it doesn't have the capacity to be sustainable. Its so appalling that the death toll will rise above anything we've ever seen

There is an urgent need for comprehensive awareness initiatives for the people of Nigeria. HIV is highly preventable, and by implementing effective measures, we can significantly reduce the number of new infections and potentially halt further transmission.

Boost Nigerian pharms like Emzor to create our own indigenous ARV.
After all of what benefit is a healthy Nigerian population to America?

A healthy Nigeria population benefits Nigeria and not America. Get to work, daft leaders. Leaders is not about stealing money and causing tribal tensions

nairalanda1:
If you want to fund it ourselves, we would have to increase the health budget.

HIV drugs are expensive. Very much so. Back in the good old days, an accquaintance of my dad's was spending half his salary on HIV drugs for himself and his son. That was before the days of PEPFAR.

And they used to be more expensive. In the early 2000's there was a big fight to reduce the price of the drugs. Court cases, people like Bill Gates advocating, etc....

Even now, new HIV drugs are still expensive. There is a new drug that is very very revolutionary. It works and can be given once every three months. South Africa was negotiating with the drug company to buy the drug. The drug company massively cut the price of the drug...to the point that they would lose money selling it...and yet it was far too expensive for South Africa. Right now, they are at a deadlock in negotiations. Neither side is budging.

If you want your government to fund the drugs...then maybe you should vote a government that would do like the UK does...take half your salary to fund things like a NIgerian National health service, where heathcare would be free totally at the point of entry.
How much exactly is the American government donating in that regards that Nigeria government cannot comfortably fill the gap?

It’s easy for them to steal and loot recklessly but when it comes to things that will benefit the common man they will suddenly realized that the country is broke..

Oga stop holding brief for these criminals except you are part of them…

I see, definitely it is because of funding like this that made you people sick, because if you all are not indeed sick you will not use N21billion to build the Vice President's house. That money can build 8,400 units of 1bedroom flat. The way our leaders reason is indeed pathetic!

It cost US roughly $6b/year to fund and Nigeria got a sizable chunk of that. Do you think this government that is borrowing $1bn has the will and empathy to spend even $500m on one medicine for citizens? Let’s watch though.
The big question is how much is Nigeria total budget , and the money is not going to the health care but just a particular drug, trump should reconsider

Trump is doing what he thinks is best for his country.

They won't be the global leader forever, so they need to prioritize the stability of their country.

Thay should't be like Rome that was busied itself conquering nations while the republic suffered from internal rot.

Which world leadership do you always talk about, leading the world to your own detriment, till the US economy collapses, they keep raising their debt ceiling which is unsustainable. Trump will come and go, but at this moment Trump is needed to bring sanity and stabilize the US system.

Aproko Doctor, why are you telling lies about Nigeria? You said: Nigeria has the world's second highest number of people living with HIV.

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which causes AIDS, varies in prevalence from nation to nation. Listed here are the prevalence rates among adults in various countries, based on data from various sources, largely the CIA World Factbook.[1][2][3]

As of 2022, around 39 million people, or 0.7% of the population, were estimated to be infected with HIV globally. Prevalence was higher among sex workers, gay and bisexual men, people who inject drugs, transgender people, and prisoners.[4]

The HIV pandemic is most severe in Southern Africa. Over 10% of all people infected with HIV/AIDS reside within the region. Adult HIV prevalence exceeds 20% in Eswatini, Botswana, Lesotho and Zimbabwe, while an additional five countries report adult HIV prevalence of at least 10%.

In absolute numbers, South Africa (9.2 million), followed Tanzania (2.55 million) and Mozambique (2.48 million) and Nigeria (2.45million) had the highest HIV/AIDS number of cases by the start of 2024.[2][5] While South Africa's large population of HIV-positive people is attributable to its high disease prevalence (17.3%, one of the highest in the world), Nigeria's is lower at 1.3%.[1] However, countries such as Nigeria with high HIV rates above 1% are classified as having Generalized HIV Epidemics (GHEs) by UNAIDS.[6]

we have the resources to fill the gap, our leaders should be more responsible . No hurting . Let people take the bull by the horn. No one is destined to be poor. Is Nigeria for example, not capable of handling her own problems? The global funds we get are often being looted by our own people. So, what's the point assisting us? Let Trump keep his money if he wants to. For a long time uptil now, there have been advocacy programmes for integration of HIV programme in particular, into our hrakthcare system, but the Nigerian government turned a deaf ear to them. Hence, we are here today. Make we enjoy am while it lasts na.

A foreign country is funding our healthcare while tinubu and the governors are enjoying luxuries that trump would be envious of.

The cost of funding tinubu's luxuries alone is enough to fund healthcare.
@nairalanda1, come read what this gentleman have pointed and dare to criticize it.

This is just Tinubu o. We have not yet
started talking about Yahaya Bello and other public officials too numerous to mention, wether they're caught or not.

Another member mentioned that Lagos State is richer than Germany and I'm kinda tempted to believe him.

Yet you want the government to take half of the citizens salary to fund healthcare. How much is even the minimum wage to begin with?

May God have mercy on you and your ilks!
