PROTEST AGAINST SHARIA LAW IMPLEMENTATION IN EKITI, OYO STATE, & OTHER SOUTH-WEST REGIONS

In this video, we’re diving straight into a major issue shaking Yoruba land right now—massive protests against the implementation of Sharia law in Ekiti, Oyo, and other South-West states.

Tensions are rising as Yoruba leaders and religious groups have come out in full force, rejecting what they call an “imposition” of Sharia law in their region. The Yoruba Nation Religious Council—also known as YONAREC—has made its stance very clear. They say Sharia law has no place in Yoruba land and are calling on the government to stop any plans to introduce it.

Protesters are not holding back! In Oyo State, they marched from Owode to Oja Akesan, carrying placards rejecting the move. According to Bashorun Kole, the president of the Yoruba Region Association, implementing Sharia law could create serious problems, leading to division and chaos.

And it’s not just one group. YONAREC, which includes both Christian and Muslim Yoruba organizations, has strongly condemned the proposal. They say it’s being pushed by external forces from the Sokoto Caliphate with the help of a few Yoruba Muslims, and it does not represent the will of the Yoruba people. Their message? Yoruba land stands for religious tolerance and unity—not an Islamic legal system that could threaten that balance.

It is not like these differences have not been there a long time ago. At least OPC was there and Obasanjo dealt with them.

For 8 years, they moved from Hausa to Hausa Fulani and now, it us Yoruba or Igbo that is our problem. whether it is Yoruba Nation, Ipob or whatever it is, it is clear to see that these groups are using a legitimate reason to exploit people's attention. We never talk about who has power, it is to blame outsiders.
