PDP Governors Assure Nigerians of Hope, Call for Economic Policy Review

Asaba, Feb 1, 2025 – Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reassured Nigerians that despite the prevailing economic and security challenges, there is hope for a better future. The governors also expressed confidence that the PDP would reclaim power at the federal level to restore the economic prosperity the country enjoyed before 2015.

The PDP Governors’ Forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, made these remarks after a closed-door meeting in Asaba, Delta State, where they assessed the state of the nation, their party’s internal affairs, and governance across PDP-controlled states.

Call for Economic Policy Review

In a seven-point resolution issued after the meeting, the governors urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review his administration’s macroeconomic policies to ease the economic hardship currently facing Nigerians.

They noted that many Nigerians were struggling under the weight of rising inflation, high fuel prices, and economic uncertainty and called on the federal government to implement policies that prioritize the welfare of citizens.

Commitment to Resolving Party Disputes

The PDP governors acknowledged the internal disputes within the party but assured members that efforts were being intensified to resolve them. They commended the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) for its peace efforts, particularly in addressing issues surrounding the position of the party’s national secretary.

The forum also reaffirmed its support for the Appeal Court judgment on the matter and called on the NWC to implement the ruling without delay.

As part of their efforts to restructure the party, the governors recommended that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting be rescheduled for March 13, 2025, after a careful review of all legal requirements for a valid NEC convention.

Concern Over National Security

The PDP governors also raised concerns about the resurgence of non-state actors posing security threats across the country. While commending Nigeria’s armed forces and security agencies for their efforts in tackling insecurity, they urged the federal government to take stronger steps to protect lives and property.

“While we commend the bravery of our armed forces and security agencies in combating insecurity, we are deeply concerned about the resurgence of non-state actors. We urge the federal government to take urgent steps to strengthen national security,” Bala Mohammed stated.

PDP's Commitment to Good Governance

The forum applauded PDP governors for implementing policies that cushion the effects of economic hardship in their states. They reiterated their commitment to good governance, ensuring that PDP-controlled states remain examples of development, stability, and economic progress.

Looking ahead, the governors vowed that the PDP remains a credible alternative to the ruling party and is determined to reclaim power to restore economic stability, security, and national development.
