The tariff import Trump levied on china in his first tenure is still there, Biden increased it yet china export to USA soared from 450 to 560 billion dollars within same period. 10% tariff will change nothing.
It will take more than tariff to shift manufacturing away from china.

25% tariff on Mexico import is the most foolish decision of all. Most American companies manufacturing in Mexico are those who moved their factories from china to be closer to home.
These companies produce some of their cheaper products in Mexico so they can stay competitive. It's an integrated manufacturing assembly line btw Mexico and USA.
The truth is if USA wants to move his manufacturing back home and remain competitive, they NEED MEXICO.

Canada economy is heavily dependent on export to America. 75% of their products ends up in the USA. 25% tariff will be a killer on Canada's economy.
Unfortunately, Trump doesn't want to talk to Trudeau, He even insulted him by calling him Canadian governor.
Trudeau should swallow his pride and do what's best for canada. He should call for general election and Canadians better vote in conservative govt, that's their only saving grace. Maybe, Elon Musk can help them talk to trump.

The fentanyl and immigration thing is a ruse. Only 4000 migrants crossed illegally to USA from Canada last year and only 40 pounds of fentanyl out of 21,000 pounds imported to USA came from Canada.

No trade war? July 2018 when Trump placed a 25% tariff on Chinese ($34B) imports, China responded by slamming her own 25% tariff on US ($50B) agricultural imports (from an initial 3%). You know what it means?

US was targeting machineries and electronics (non-perishable goods), China was targeting agricultural, perishable goods! Chinese buyers opted for countries with smaller tariffs (Brazil, Argentina; for their Soybeans imports), while US still had to buy the Chinese goods. Guess who ended up paying the 25% tariff... The American people! Guess who's citizens committed suicide... American farmers! Guess who used $25B to bail their farmers... US!

The biggest winners is the alternative country from whom I can buy your products! (Brazil and Argentina in my previous story).

US just recently abandoned OPEC crude for Venezuela. Venezuela is the winner in this case. Now, that's what we call trade wars!!!

Trump is playing a dangerous game. His actions makes one believe the rumors that he is allegedly doing the bidding of Putin to destroy America from the inside. One of the major reasons America is a world power today is because it has most of its debt in US dollars. So the fear of paying it back isn't there. Now, if these countries decided to stop trading in the US dollars, the dollar is going to fall and Americans who are supporting him now will feel the heat.

It's exactly the same thing that happened when the European union came up with the Euros. The Euros quickly became more powerful than the dollar.

Mexico and Canada are 2 of America's greatest business partners in terms of America exports. If both decide not to trade with America and get their exports from elsewhere,it becomes a huge problem for thr USA. Also, America's supposed invisibility lies in the fact that none of its adversaries have a military base close to the USA. Now, imagine Mexico starts a new relationship with China or Russia, allowing those countries to have military bases in Mexico, just like America has in strategic countries close to their adversaries all over the world. What would happen then?

This is not a fair fight. The US has much upper hands. All these countries rely heavily on the US import to grow their economy. Even the retaliation may harm their economy more than it would do to the US economy.

For fact check.. The US is China's biggest importer. The US import from China more than the whole EU combined.

As of Canada, they are literally reliant on the US importation (of raw materials).

The resultant effect of Trump's protectism tariff move is that a new, or an existing alternative trading block will be strengthened.

BRICS, most likely, or a similar alternative block will be formed and supported by even US allies.
