Meet Malam Umaru Altine; The First Elected Mayor Of Enugu by Racoon(op): 3:55pm On Feb 05, 2025
Malam Umaru Altine (1952 - 1958), a Northern Fulani man was the first elected Mayor of Enugu, in the East, and was even re-elected for a second term.

Malam Umaru Altine was the Vice Chairman of the NCNC Youth Association at Enugu. He identified with the NCNC as a political party. During elections NCNC decided to nominate him at Coal Camp where he lived.
He contested twice for the post of Mayor of Enugu against Igbo opponents and won twice.

The second election was even more significant in the sense that NCNC had asked him to step down for somebody else and he refused. Instead, he resigned from NCNC, ran as an Independent candidate and beat the NCNC candidate.

If you wanna tell the story, tell it as it is and don’t embellish it with half-truths and outright lies!

Rita Orjis’ election owed largely to the Igbo and non emilokan-Yoruba voting demographic of the electorate in the part of Lagos she was seeking to represent! The Tinubu minions and acolytes that have held Lagos in a chokehold from 1999 to date WERE NOT happy with her election and this accounted for the thuggery and rigging they deployed to get rid of her and install a Yoruba man in her place!

Why the igbos wey contest last year no enter?

The population that voted in Rita Orji twice, are they all dead? Why didnt the same people vote other Igbos into that seat last year

Point is, Its about PDP and APC. There are APC Igbos serving in Lagos. I guess its the igbo population that forced them in too

Igbos were the true Nigerian. At the dawn of independence, every Igbo man see Nigeria as a place that belongs to everyone. But the North and South West saw a different thing, and were carefully using politics of bitterness and tribe to stoke the flame of hate that is currently burning across Nigeria.
Re: Meet Malam Umaru Altine; The First Elected Mayor Of Enugu by IGBOPROMISE1: 5:12pm On Feb 05, 2025
I have no doubt that, but for tribalism and xenophobia, Nigeria could have been among the top 10 most developed countries on planet earth and the pride of the black race! But see what has become of us today!

Rather, this was in the time when Zik and the NCNC were collaborating with the North to marginalise the south west (including the midwest at this time), with the hope that Zik would then be made the next Prime Minister. This was the same political romance that led Zik to ignore the advice of Awolowo to include a secession clause in the then Constitution.

Yorubas will claim it happened in Ghana.

All their desires in Nigeria is for Igbos to be hated by everybody in the world for coming to have properties in their all mighty Lagos.

Zik was a fool who should have tried his luck in the North.

Zik was disgraced in the West, Ojukwu also faced the West and that was the beginning of his misfortune.

No be today Yorubas don dey cure your papa craze.

NCNC led by Zik liberated the Mid west from Western Region hegemony and marginalization.
