Suspected Herders Launch Fresh Attack On Ebonyi Community, Residents Flee by chopnaira(op): 7:37pm On Feb 05, 2025
SaharaReporters gathered that Wednesday's attack started shortly after a team of policemen and state security outfit 'Ebube-Agu', visited the community.

Suspected herdsmen have carried out a new attack on villages in the Nkalaha community of Ishielu Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, causing widespread fear and displacement.

This attack comes just three days after Amegu village was attacked, resulting in the killing of at least 16 residents and the destruction of 25 houses and properties worth millions of naira.

The attack has heightened tension as residents of Amaokwe, Umeleha, and Amegu villages have been fleeing their homes with their belongings to Amazezegba, Nigercem, and other neighbouring communities.

However, SaharaReporters gathered that Wednesday's attack started shortly after a team of policemen and state security outfit 'Ebube-Agu', visited the community.

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters could not independently verify the cause of the recent attack and gunfire, which, according to locals who spoke to SaharaReporters, was still ongoing at the time of filing this report.

National Emergency Management Agency officials, who were headed to the community to deliver relief materials to Amegu village where the Sunday attack occurred, were also forced to flee before reaching the affected area.

A local resident, Samuel Edeze, confirmed to SaharaReporters that he was trapped at Amazezegba and unable to reach his village due to the current situation.

Edeze said, "I went to Nkalagu this morning and on my return this afternoon, I met hundreds of residents fleeing their homes. I was stuck at Amazezegba from where I am calling you now. Those fleeing told me that immediately the security operatives left the community, gunshots started raining at Amaokwe and Umeleha villages. I am from Amegu village and our people who have run to those villages are also fleeing with their hosts.

"It is a very hopeless and dicey situation. Even the National Emergency Management Agency officials that were coming to deliver relief materials had to turn back without reaching to the village. They carried their stuff and went back."

He, however, pleaded with the Ebonyi State government to do something to secure their lives and property, noting that the primary responsibility of every government is the protection of lives and property.

Attempts by SaharaReporters to reach the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, were unsuccessful as he did not answer his calls at the time of filing this report. He had also not responded to a text message seeking his comment on the incident.

Meanwhile in a statement issued earlier on Wednesday, Ukandu disclosed that the Command had recovered some exhibits linked to Sunday's attack on Amegu Nkalaha community.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the PPRO reported that during their operations, a suspect named Maduabuchi Chimaobi Ebeh was apprehended while fleeing the community.

With the assistance of members of the Nkalaha community, he was caught at the border between Nkalaha and Eha-Amufu and handed over to the Isi-Uzo police division.

It read, “Upon interrogation, the suspect provided the names of others involved in the attack. Based on the information gathered, operatives from the command stormed the hideout of the hoodlums responsible for the attack.

“When the operatives raided the criminal hideout, other assailants fled the scene.

"Items recovered were 3 locally made single-barreled guns, one police uniform, a pair of jungle boots, a pair of army camouflage shorts, and a pair of combat trousers.

“The command is actively pursuing the other fleeing suspects and continuing our investigation into this matter. We encourage anyone with useful information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward.

“We are using this medium to encourage all to dispel rumours of insecurity and go about their lawful activities. Furthermore, we reiterate our firm resolve to apprehend the hoodlums and assure the residents of Ebonyi State of our commitment to the protection of lives and property."

Very cowardly yes but will not tribalize.....It's really a shame that such people attack day in and out and nothing is being done. Even the security is nothing to write home about. The people are even stupid themselves that they can't defend themselves. This thing has been going on for years and instead you people to Organize and plan, no....you run away and they will occupied your land and gradually, they take over the country. You people should continue running a place you know all your life for one useless person who probably came from Mali or Níger.

The only ESN that they seems to be scared of has been taken out of their way. The only language that they seems to understand is fire for superior fire. Violence for superior violence.

Where Are The Cows? Is Evans A Herdsman?'

When Funke Olakurin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was murdered instead of Bola Tinubu to make sure that the perpetrators were brought to book, he ended up making fun of the death of the young lady by turning everything into tribalism by showing his hates for Igbos.

Tinubu has never spoken against the deadly activities of Fulani herdsmen across the country

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.

Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.

Tinubu will turn a blind eye to this, while the useless governor keeps asking the people not to retaliate.

My yoruba ronu brethren are masturbating furiously on the thread because it's Igbos who are involved, but more than 30,000 yorubas have been murdered by same herdsmen and yoruba villagers are now refugees in Benin republic.

The life of 1 Igbo man is worth more than the lives of 10 Yoruba ronu, that's the reason they wail loudest whenever anything bad happens to an Igbo man but keep mute when worse befalls their own people

The herders are having their field day, but the government is doing nothing about it. When the people mobilize against them, the outcome will be messy! I blame Dave Umahi for this nonsense

If herdsmen don't buther you in the WIld Wild West, skullminers will get you. Instead of asking the yoruba president to live up to his responsibility of protecting lives and property, you're here spewing jargon
