The House of Representatives Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to facilitate the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as a crucial step toward peace and development in the region.

Speaking during the committee’s inaugural meeting in Abuja, Chairman Chris Nkwonta emphasized that insecurity remains a major challenge in the South East, hindering progress. He noted that Kanu’s continued detention has heightened tensions, deepened grievances, and threatened regional stability.

Nkwonta reiterated that the SEDC was established to address developmental gaps in the region, stressing that sustainable growth requires peace and inclusivity. While commending President Tinubu for signing the SEDC bill into law, he urged the federal government to tackle lingering issues of marginalization and political discontent in the South East.

Inaugurating the committee, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, represented by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, described the commission as a vital initiative for addressing the developmental challenges facing the South East.

He assured the committee of the House’s full support, pledging collaboration to ensure the commission delivers on its mandate.

You see, this revelation which I have been piling together for years now should win an award.

Kanu's Ipob faction was all about SEDC commission. I followed how everything started till date. I have been consistent with my revelations for years.

The thought provoking part is, why going through that process which was so costly?

Everything shouldn't be about politics. There should be sincere reflection about this..

Anybody that wants Kanu killed is not a good person! The sweetest thing is seeing Kanu languishing in kuje having his freedom taking away from him, that’s one deadly psychological torture you can do to a man! In some cases ,it’s worse than death. After tinubus 8 years, shetimma government should sentence him to his 10 years for terrorism against the country ! After serving his jailed term, he should be banned for life from leaving the country!

Let the judiciary decide Kanu fate either by conviction or whatever, it's after the conviction that Tinubu can pardon him but I don't think President will order his release just like that. These people should warn Kanu about his delaying tactics to stop alleging Judges unnecessarily.
