Op You are 200℅ right. The kind of poverty we r facing in this country no be small.

I lost a lots of friends because I ask them for help. I am not angry maybe they r too going through poverty like me.

I have just finished eating my first meal of the day at 3:pm nd there is strong probability I will not eat anything again till tomorrow at 3pm

May God see us through and deliver us from this abject poverty.
Our leaders need to do something about it.

Nothing new. The worst is when they turn you to their ATM simply because you showed sympathy. It's mostly manipulation. A lot of people see begging as 'an' easy way. Nothing new in the trend.

Begging is a full time job for a lot of people if you only know and the irony is how the laugh behind your back afterwards because they make so much money everyday begging. I know a begger who owns properties worth millions. There are lots of such people on Nairaland too, who are making money from begging. People make transfer to them every now and then. The genuine people who sincerely need help are very few.

More so, is when they turn you to their ATM and the moment you don't give, they start showing ingratitude either by misbehaving some will even insult you in your face.
Hold these words with your left hand.

First case is still understandable. He might have had plans to meet someone for a business deal that did NOT pan out.

He had a VIABLE excuse for getting stranded.

But the second guy is plain MADNESS!
People like that should NEVER be given handouts.

A poor man found himself an EQUALLY poor woman and they bleeped raw until they made a baby whom they can give NOTHING but more poverty.

That's NOT just poverty.
That is STUPIDITY!
And WICKEDNESS too.

Having a child when you know you CANNOT take of a child is EVIL!

Both of them WILLINGLY signed up to get hitched to their POOR selves. But that child DIDN'T.

Condom is JUST #300. Get it and don't make your IRRESPONSIBILITY the problem of other people.

"I don't like condom" is NOT for people who are suffering from perennial poverty.

It's one thing to be a well-to-do couple who had their child/children BEFORE they fell on hard times.

It's ANOTHER thing for a pauper who moved from his family house to a face-me-i-face-you apartment and still DEFAULTS on rent to IMPREGNATE a fellow pauper.

That's MADNESS!

I HATE people like that.
They deserve ZERO sympathy or assistance.
You are still a kid

I'm really mindful of the places I go these days because when people see that you dress well smelling nice, they conclude you have money and they start billing you. If and when I have money, and someone needs help, my conscience can never allow me leave without helping such a person. If I am unable to help, I feel really bad and sad within me. But when I don't have, nobody helps me. Life!

This is Present Administration. The poverty rate in Nigeria increased by 80%

I try as much as I can to stay healthy and out of police trouble cos if I fall sick or fall into trouble, I have nobody to assist me... Them say cow wey nor get tail, na God dey drive flies from it's anus o. I don't look for people's trouble at all. Slap me, I leave u to God.

I am not saying there are no liars nor there are no fake nor there are no lazy people who chose begging as an option but let us remember there are people who sincerely need help and we should try to help whenever we can. Poverty is everywhere all over the world

These people voted for their leaders, they collected their bag of rice or 5k, even the ones that did not vote are still guilty because they have no say in anything. Nigeria is not a country where you pity the poor, it is a country where you do your best and ignore them afterwards......Come 2027 they'll still make the same choice!

okp*lor eyes is a very very wicked, undiluted criminal. He cannot lead his slippers, but they give him a complex problem like Nigeria.

When they were being warned, they said he invented Lagos.

Muslim - Muslim ticket nko, they said it is how its supposed to be.

okay, let him answer critical questions by interviewers, they shielded him and said he didn't have to say anything.

Now, he dun dey show his true colors.
Some people are eating, it's just those around him. The rest are being taxed for existing, without results; While he and his friends, share resources money and look down at everyone else.

Anyway, the tribalism, and islamics, of okp*lor eyes, has brought the igbo nation to reality. Never again shall it be put back on a box. Never again shall the igbos be grouped with anti Israel govt.
Too many never agains, for this administration.

Brother, I don't think that's what is happening now.

Honestly, the nation is in a mess... No easy way to put it.

People who never begged a day in their lives have now been reduced to the position of seeking help even in degrading manners.

Poverty level in Nigeria has never been this high and frightening.

Let's not simply wave such reports off because they don't align with what we want to believe or perceive.

Yes, begging is another person's full time profit making job. I know a woman who usually beg at the same spot every evening in the same location when I'm going back home from work since about 3 to 4 years now even before Tinubu came into power. She looks healthy, and all her body parts complete, but she is just passionate and gifted in begging for money. But I stopped giving her money about a year ago when an Okada rider tried to pursue her from disturbing his customer, and both of them started insulting themselves, and the Okada guy called her a thief and begi begi, and she replied that it's because she is wise, and not foolish, that she is begging, that is her means of livelihood. And she prayed that may she continue to be wise. Since that day, I stopped giving her shishi. She is still there now, I still saw her begging there on Wednesday evening. That begging is another man's format for livelihood. Scammers use the format too, and they see you as foolish and mugun whenever you give them money.

I agree with you but alot more people are actually using this 'position' to demand for money left right and center. Nairaland is a case study you can start with.

There's a distinct difference between what you described above and what this thread is about.

The fact is... Many more Nigerians are begging today, not as a business or vocation but as an act of desperation in a hopeless situation.

Even salary earners are not exempt from this begging pandemic sweeping across the nation.

The poverty level in the nation is currently at a historical all time high... Like, shocking proportions.

This is not the time or place for dismissive statements...!

If you haven't encountered people, hardworking people that have been reduced to begging for sustenance, then I wonder where in Naija you reside or what kinda heart you have.

You are a blessed man.

There are people God has destined to be helpers. No one can help the helpers. God helps them directly because He knows if He puts resources into your hands, you will distribute them to the needy.

How you will know is simple: you will see that out of a crowd of people, you are the one that these ones will be directed to. It will also happen time and time again in various places.
