First case is still understandable. He might have had plans to meet someone for a business deal that did NOT pan out.

He had a VIABLE excuse for getting stranded.

But the second guy is plain MADNESS!
People like that should NEVER be given handouts.

A poor man found himself an EQUALLY poor woman and they bleeped raw until they made a baby whom they can give NOTHING but more poverty.

That's NOT just poverty.
That is STUPIDITY!
And WICKEDNESS too.

Having a child when you know you CANNOT take of a child is EVIL!

Both of them WILLINGLY signed up to get hitched to their POOR selves. But that child DIDN'T.

Condom is JUST #300. Get it and don't make your IRRESPONSIBILITY the problem of other people.

"I don't like condom" is NOT for people who are suffering from perennial poverty.

It's one thing to be a well-to-do couple who had their child/children BEFORE they fell on hard times.

It's ANOTHER thing for a pauper who moved from his family house to a face-me-i-face-you apartment and still DEFAULTS on rent to IMPREGNATE a fellow pauper.

That's MADNESS!

I HATE people like that.
They deserve ZERO sympathy or assistance.

You are a blessed man.

There are people God has destined to be helpers. No one can help the helpers. God helps them directly because He knows if He puts resources into your hands, you will distribute them to the needy.

How you will know is simple: you will see that out of a crowd of people, you are the one that these ones will be directed to. It will also happen time and time again in various places.
Amen. Thanks

All you people 's life depends on election yet you keep rigging rogues into offices and start blaming those you rigged their votes of begging to survive.

While I agree with you that there are fraudsters among them, it's shocking that in present day Nigeria you think those who need help are actually few. Sis. Or Bros. things are so tough even people doing regular jobs cant cope

Nothing new. The worst is when they turn you to their ATM simply because you showed sympathy. It's mostly manipulation. A lot of people see begging as 'an' easy way. Nothing new in the trend.

Begging is a full time job for a lot of people if you only know and the irony is how the laugh behind your back afterwards because they make so much money everyday begging. I know a begger who owns properties worth millions. There are lots of such people on Nairaland too, who are making money from begging. People make transfer to them every now and then. The genuine people who sincerely need help are very few.

More so, is when they turn you to their ATM and the moment you don't give, they start showing ingratitude either by misbehaving some will even insult you in your face.

What's really Happening?

I'm really mindful of the places I go these days because when people see that you dress well smelling nice, they conclude you have money and they start billing you. If and when I have money, and someone needs help, my conscience can never allow me leave without helping such a person. If I am unable to help, I feel really bad and sad within me. But when I don't have, nobody helps me. Life!

I try as much as I can to stay healthy and out of police trouble cos if I fall sick or fall into trouble, I have nobody to assist me... Them say cow wey nor get tail, na God dey drive flies from it's anus o. I don't look for people's trouble at all. Slap me, I leave u to God.
No real hungry man will go to cold Stone to beg for money to feed his family . Go there for the next one month you will still be seeing the same man there daily begging people for money and still giving the same story , infact leave the place ,wait somewhere for 2 hours ,go back there ,you will see that same man still begging people for money.
The point is begging is now a profession on its own ,that has its own techniques ,and even scientific approach in order to make maximum cash

People are hungry and dying but cannot hold their government accountable.

Before you come and tell me it's my responsibility to find a job, those who have jobs are also suffering.

The government continues to impoverish the people with bad policies that are only favorable to themselves.

Una never dey hungry yet.

I want Tinubu to punish you all to the point where you set aside your tribal and religious differences and unite against the bad leaders that are leading you and your children and their children into starvation and penury.
When you people come here to type, I wonder if we are in the same country. How does one hold government accountable in Nigeria?

The last set of young people who tried to hold the government accountable was killed in their numbers at Lekki Toll Plaza.

Afterwards, the government and army denied the killings only for the state government to stupidly announce their mass burial date.

You are somehow wrong.
Fortune and tides sometimes turn for bad.
A married man who is working can suddenly find himself jobless just in a twinkle of an eye.
Supposed his wife was already one or two months pregnant while he was working, and he suddenly lost his job, how do you say he was a pauper that didn't need to get his wife pregnant.

Life happens to people. Some of you should learn to be reasonable in your analysis.

May God help you; but no peace without war. Whether silent war, actionable war, visible or invisible war. You must face your enemies directly or indirectly and conquer them before you can gain promotion. Always let your enemy know that you're in charge of your life. If not they will continue to enslave you. Never allow them to distract your focus on your goal, just behave as if they don't even exist as long as they are not standing in between and your goal. But when they come in between you and your goal, you have to give them woto woto, and make a bold statement that when they see you next time, they will be the one to run from you. But you have to be wise, confident, bold and have faith in something, as your back up. My own na God and prayer sha. Allowing someone to kill you without defending yourself is not good enough; even life won't take you serious, and may not give you what you need to overcome. But when you're weak and you still try your best to defend yourself, then life will raise help for you and give you what you need to overcome because you have proven yourself and showed that you deserve all the necessary help. Life is magical.

You said it all. A close example is a guy that comes here always for many years begging for money to buy inhaler. I actually thought the guy was legit initially but when I discovered the consistent of his begging with this same narration everyday. I had to stop the charity.... Also another one here doing the same thing and showing pictures of a perceived sick person. Really, people are taking advantage of the generosity of most Nigerian.

There's a distinct difference between what you described above and what this thread is about.

The fact is... Many more Nigerians are begging today, not as a business or vocation but as an act of desperation in a hopeless situation.

Even salary earners are not exempt from this begging pandemic sweeping across the nation.

The poverty level in the nation is currently at a historical all time high... Like, shocking proportions.

This is not the time or place for dismissive statements...!

If you haven't encountered people, hardworking people that have been reduced to begging for sustenance, then I wonder where in Naija you reside or what kinda heart you have.
Well, seriously speaking, I don't understand what you mean. Because you just talk as if everybody around us have turned to beggar. That is what I don't understand. The same set of people who usually beg for years are still the same people begging that I know. And they are all these area guys that smoke Indian hemp without any iota of seriousness. People have challenges occasionally, even some of my family members who calls their brothers for assistance only occasionally, but that does not mean they are beggars. Personal challenges has nothing to do with economic situation. Even when the economy is booming irregardless of who is in power, you can still have terrible personal challenges. But because the economy is bad today does not mean that everybody is a beggar. I don't know if everybody around you is a beggar. Even Aboki under bridge in Lagos now polish a shoe at the rate of N200 naira per person. Do you know how many people they polish shoe for in a day and how much they make and take home everyday. And they stay there everyday from money to evening. As the economy is stepping up, you too must step up your game, and don't take opportunities for granted, and don't depend on anyone, but God.

It is pathetic situation bro.

Mass protest may not yield anything tangible in this country. Cos, there are many factors against it.

However, there are effective ways which I can't say.

In other words, we are in for a long ride. cool
