What people don't here is that the customer will not tell the whole truth, what may happen is that her had been swamped somewhere else, the reason her card was trapped by the machine is that of pressing her pin to used another card swapped with her card , automatically the machine will Trapp the card after the third attempt, she might have solicited for assistance from fraudster at the ATM stand,in the process had her card swapped, the fraudster armed with her pin and card went to nearby pos stand to make withdraw from her account.i bet that trapped card is not her card, TALKING FROM EXPERIENCE

how much do you have? Do you run a business with turn over in 100s of billions? Have you ever been required by your partners abroad to provide bank guarantee,LC's and various other bank services by mainstream commercial banks? If not then shut the Bleep off!!

Sorry for her.

Long story short, her card was swapped by someone TRUST Me.

They will play CCTV footage for her, she will start believing.

It's a new tactic organised by group of syndicates who patrol and attack customers who are vulnerable. They will distract you just asnthe vardvis being ejected and replace it with the same bank card where u will strt puring invalid pin 3 times and the machine will retract your card.

THE BANK IS ALWAYS BLAMED.

Are you sure of what you just wrote?

Never heard of it!
KingNom:
The thing seems like this:

her account was possibly hacked by an earlier transaction she did with a POS Machine. so on going to the bank, the fraudsters having her card pin, details etc. easily caused her network disruption/seizing of arm card.
With her card in the machine, the fraudsters will quickly siphon her funds so the bank will bear the loss

Something similar happened to someone I know

Reason I hardly use use ATM card to withdraw from POS machines. I'd rather transfer with bank app to the POS Account

How will the next person bring out the ceased ATM card?
topygel12:
It might have been planned by the security man and someone on the queue behind the woman, immediately she was adviced to go in and complain, the person behind her would have removed the ATM card and go to the nearby POS. The ATM will not be found at the ATM vault, the person behind her in pretence of withdrawing money would have removed the ATM card. It has happened to one of my church members before.
Next time, don't leave the ATM vault and watch closely the next person that mount to withdraw.

Are you still working in a bank?
tabaski:
She must have compromised her pin, prolly with those guys that hover around atm terminals offering to help people who wants to use the atm. Those guys are so clever and swift in swapping atm cards with the one with them. Imputing your pin on the swapped card will trapped your card automatically after 3 attempts and they, with the your card and prolly with the knowledge of your pin will move to another location to loot your account. I witnessed so many cases when I was working in a bank.

This is a simple case. Bank would review the cctv footage and discover that someone offered to assist the woman during the transaction. This person swapped the card (the cctv might not capture this). Immediately the someone would disappear. The woman will then enter her pin and the atm machine will tell her wrong PIN 3times and trapped the card cause its not her card. While she is still complaining that the machine trapped her card, the someone will be withdrawing from the account on a POS cause the woman already gave her the PIN while he was assisting her.
Dont allow anyone assist you while using the ATM. Tell anyone moving close to you while using the atm to move away. your PIN is for you alone. Dont reveal to any one.

People should confirm what she said first before blaming the bank. Doesn't really make sense. Let's see the debit alert first and make sure the card was not swapped by fraudsters before using it

she either suffered a card swap by a thief who posed to assist her on the terminal or her card came out when she went to complain. No bank staff will indulge in such nonsense.
The former is most likely the case.

You'd be surprised to know that the card was swallowed as a result of wrong PIN entries in multiple time as the card was not hers.

Her card has been swapped, unknown to her

...from experience.

Never take an atm card with much money to withdraw, I have two accounts one as my main savings the other for spending, I only transfer little cash into it for immediate spending.
Best is not to have an ATM Card linked to your deposit account. I have an app set up for the account though.

this is so true. You might be surprised she dint even get to that terminal with the card. When the bank investigates now, you'd be shocked.

Those security agents should be held responsible undecided it's obvious they're working hand in hand with those low budget yahoo boys undecided

BTW,who still goes to the ATM to make withdrawals these days?,when POS vendors are everywhere? Even transferring of funds have made it easy for Nigerians.......

I can't even remember the last time I visited an ATM stand, even bank let alone to witness such nonsense undecided
1. Security doesn’t have access to ATM room
2. ATMs have keys used to open the main vault before gaining access to the trays, ledgers or atm card swallowed,
3. The mode of withdrawal needs to also be clarified- you cannot withdraw more than 150k from ATM in cash.
4. If a portion was card withdrawal then the ATM used must be confirmed , then the ATM camera (yes ATMs have cameras) must be reviewed.

So it’s beyond security.

Let’s not forget that all this happened within 20 minutes per the report sha.

Police must do their job… in a normal country she wouldn’t be crying, she’d throw a fit then head to the nearest police station, write her complaint and wait for investigations to commence (within 48 hours a full report should be available)

But alas na naija we Dey, police might even demand half the sum.

Woman in Tears as ₦243K Vanishes 20 Minutes After ATM Seizes Card —Inside Job Suspected?

A woman was filmed crying uncontrollably while a crowd watched, refusing to be consoled after the money her husband gave her for shop rent was wiped from her account.

According to reports, her bank’s ATM seized her card while she was trying to withdraw cash. She went inside to report the issue to the bank staff, but they told her to return the following Monday to retrieve it. However, just 20 minutes later, over ₦240,000 was withdrawn from her account via a POS terminal.

The question is, who is behind the withdrawal, considering that her ATM card was still stuck in the machine? Obviously, someone must have gained access to the card. Since this happened within just 20 minutes of her card getting stuck, it is safe to assume that the person behind the withdrawal is an insider at the bank, possibly using a POS machine located inside the bank or within its premises.

What are your thoughts on this? Please drop your advice in the comments!

Banks have no become thieves, it's better you keep your money in your kolo sef. Fintech apps would soon run these useless banks out of business.

Na bank do am
Lemme explain what happened to her, she went to use the bank ATM, one fraudsters was there, he offered to help her so she can leave immediately, she slot in her password, the fraudsters sees it, maybe the bank has reconfigured the ATM to pay other bank cards 5k per withdrawal, the fraudster tells the woman he can help her so she withdraws 20k at once, during this time, he has swap the woman card and replace it with another one.
He tells the woman to slot in the card and enters her password, she does this and it shows incorrect password, he tells her to take her time to input her password carefully, during this time he is carefully checking her password..
After the 3rd attempt, the ATM traps the fake card, she enters the banking hall to complain and retrieve her card, the fraudster leave with her card, go to POS and withdraw her funds.
No banker is involved...

Stingy people do. They will not want to pay POS charge.
Many of the learnt the hard way later.

It happened to one of my guy in Benin. His was a sorry case. One guy managed to swap his card as they were trying trying their luck with the machine due to network or God knows what.

All he told me was, let's go the ATM didn't work.

We had hardly gotten home when alerts start rolling in.

Before we could make it to the bank, 190k is gone and d criminal used the remaining 2k to buy card.

Meanwhile he would have collected the needed 30k from POS jejely but avoiding charges
Penny wise pound foolish...
U go see grown up man stand for ATM queue for 1hr plus just to withdraw 5k because he no wan pay 100naira charges...
Some go trek distance to bank to do this..
Some men will go to bank, withdraw 50k over the counter after spending some.mins or hours, then tip cashier 2k, security guys 1k or so...
Meanwhile POS charges for 50k na just 1thousand naira, no time spent or wasted.

Know of a similar story. Woman was at the ATM (one of these touch screen ones) and the she was struggling. A lady comes along and asks to help. Cunningly the lady swaps the woman's card and after watching her enter her pin 3 times, the fraudsters card gets swallowed by the machine. The fraudster leaves armed with the woman's card and pin, withdraws 900k. Over a couple of days. The card belonged to the woman's husband who left it for her when he traveled so she wasn't getting alerts.

I suspect this woman's story will most likely be in this category.

You have fraudsters in banks, no doubt. But I can assure you 99% of ATM fraud cases are due to negligence on the customer's part.

Ensure you don't reveal your pin to ANYONE.

You don't know what you are talking about this a case of card swap,

It happens a lot someone try to assist her and the process swap her card and use another similar card and try wrong pin for the machine to trap the card

I believe her card must have been swapped at the ATM points. If you ask her, if someone assisted her, she would say no, but most times they get assistance. So this person swaps the card.
Re: Woman In Tears As ₦243K Vanishes 20 Minutes After ATM Seizes Card(photos/video) by IyfeNamikaze(m): 9:37pm On Feb 09, 2025
Offpoint1:
She has no reasons to cry if her card was seized by the machine.

Bank don't returned seize card, they will ask you to get new one.

Her card was with the bank, so the bank are fully responsible and will pay her back every penny.

Withdrawal from POS means the withdrawal was with the card.
It's an open and shut case. If she has evidence that she came to report her swallowed ATM at the Bank then the case is simple. The Bank will refund her money, if they do anyhow na to sue them straight up. Even a first year lawyer will win this case against the bank.

I don't understand this.
Can you talk more about it?
What are the benefits of this?
Most people have a single account they use for their savings, and this account has a debit card they use at an ATM machine or a POS outlets for withdraw and payment.

I recommend that people create a separate account specifically for ATM and POS transactions. This way, you’ll have two accounts: a main account and an ATM account. Your main account should not have an ATM card attached to it, and it should be used for saving and for funding the ATM account when needed.

By doing this, even if your ATM card is compromised, there will be only a small amount of money in the ATM account, minimizing potential losses.
