Lawalsquared:I guess you are the one on the youtube video. You seem to imply that if you are going to plant 100s of acres of oilpalm, then buldozer is required to clear the land. I think it might be possible to use manual labour for the land clearing to save cost. I think one can just clear 1m to 2m wide strips of land manually and use the cleared strips as the rows to grow the oilpalm. The remaining trees and bushes in the inter rows can be cleared manually and slowing afterwards while the palms are growing. I have seen this done in the establishment of rubber tree plantations. Rubber trees even have closer inter row spacing than oilpalm, so this can certainly be done with oilpalms. You are correct about having your own nursery. It saves a lot of cost. However adequate watering is required to prevent the seedlings from dying in the nursery. |
