2027 Power Play New Alliances Take Shape as Politicians Plot to Unseat Tinubu
With President Bola Tinubu barely two years into his tenure, Nigeria’s political heavyweights are already making moves for 2027.

The usual suspects are back at the drawing board, forming coalitions and rekindling old alliances—all with one goal: to dethrone the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

What makes this political maneuvering even more intriguing is the involvement of some of Tinubu’s former allies, now seemingly bent on cutting ties and changing the narrative.

The Plot Thickens
According to a report by the Nigerian Tribune on Saturday, February 8, Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adebayo Adewole argues that Nigeria doesn’t need a new political party to remove Tinubu—what the country needs, he insists, is a complete shift in mindset.

In his view, swapping parties without changing the political culture will just be an exercise in futility.

His words: “Political parties are merely vehicles for mobilizing opinions and shaping governance. But without a new approach to politics, even a brand-new party will still deliver the same old problems.”

The Call for a Political Overhaul
Salihu Lukman, former APC vice-chairman (North-West), echoes this sentiment but takes it a step further.

He’s urging key opposition figures—including ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader Rabiu Kwankwaso—to shelve their 2027 presidential ambitions. Instead, he wants them to focus on building a robust alternative party that can go head-to-head with the APC.

Lukman didn’t stop there. He also called on former APC stalwarts like Rotimi Amaechi, Kayode Fayemi, and Aminu Tambuwal to join forces and prioritize party-building over personal aspirations.

In his view, the political class has largely failed in presenting credible alternatives, and without real groundwork, the opposition’s ambitions will crumble before they even take off.

Opposition Figures Eye New Openings
The jostling for 2027 is already heating up. Reports indicate that Atiku recently paid a visit to Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (popularly known as Binani), the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 Adamawa State election. The meeting has fueled speculations about a broader opposition coalition in the making.

With Tinubu’s critics growing louder and internal party rifts deepening, political realignments are becoming inevitable.

What’s Next?
With former allies turning into rivals and fresh alliances emerging, the road to 2027 is shaping up to be a high-stakes battle.

Will the opposition manage to put their egos aside and present a united front? Or will history repeat itself, with fragmented ambitions handing the APC another easy victory?

Go and tell your lord and master to play real grand politics ....and seek to reunify the southern vote..........the Achilles heel of Yoruba politics is their disdain for everything Igbo! people like you encourage it, promote it, and enjoy it but who loses at the end ...no be the same Nigeria?

The southwest and northwest have systematically and strategically castrated the southeast economically and politically......to whose benefit!?Tinubu could have completed a small but significant project like finishing the new international terminal of the Enugu airport. Still, he came to Enugu and went without commissioning one single Federal project............... the same Tinubu spent 130 million dollars to buy a presidential jet for himself. Still, he cannot spend 10 to 20 million dollars to complete the Enugu terminal which has been over 95% complete for the past 5 years is a mission impossible! Make una continue.............a daniel will soon come to judgment!

So, let's look at the real numbers. According to INEC votes claims. Today is Sunday, so I happen to have a little time on my hands.

Ahmed Tinubu of the APC: 8,794,726 or 36.6%
Atiku Abubakar of PDP: 6,984,520, or 29.07%
Peter Obi of Labour Party: 6,101,533 or 25.4%
Rabiu Kwankwaso of NNPP: 1,496,687 or 6.23%
Others: 648,474 or 2.7%

Tinubu: 8,794,726
3 Main opponents: 14'582'740
Difference: 5'788'014

These are INEC numbers, so let's extrapolate them. Now, assuming an unmanipulated election, which I must fairly state has never happened in Nigeria takes place, and let's also keep in mind that the opposing side having consolidated, and having also participated in elections rigging in the past, therefore are well oiled and experienced in the act, how do your candidate stack up against these numbers, even with the power of incumbency?.

Northwest:

Assuming they are able to come together under a common umbrella against your above wish. A combined force of Atiku Abubakar, Musa Kwankwaso and Nasiru El-Rufai, and yes, Peter Obi, will definitely deny Ahmed Tinubu a win in the Northwest and significantly reduce his vote count in the region.

Atiku Abubakar won Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina and Kaduna, 4 of the 7 states that make up the Northwest. Tinubu won only Jigawa and Zamfara, while Musa Kwankwaso took Kano, which he will keep if he participates.

Nasiru El-Rufai, though unpopular in parts of southern Kaduna, is a political behemoth in central and northern Kaduna, extending to southern Kano and northeastern Niger State. Peter Obi, whose popularity has recently skyrocketed in the north, can be expected to retain his enormous popularity in southern Kaduna and increase his tally in other states in the region. That's the Northwest.

Northeast:

Atiku Abubakar will easily sweep the Northeast, as he did in the last episode. He won 5 of the northeastern states in the last election, with Borno, the vice president's home state, being the only exception. Peter Obi will continue to improve on his performance in parts of Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba.

North Central:

Ahmed Tinubu won here. That's what INEC told us. The Supreme Court told us that the FCT is now a state for electoral purposes. He won 4 of the now 7 states, while Peter Obi handily won the remaining 3 states namely, FCT, Plateau and Nasarawa States.

If Bukola Saraki joins the new umbrella, as it's being speculated, Kwara state o'tilo!. Jagaban will be expected to lose heavily in the state and parts of Niger State due to the current economic quagmire, insecurity in the region and Saraki factor.

A further erosion of votes in the North Central is possible if the PDP finally puts its house in order. Atiku Abubakar can expect to win Benue, leaving the Jagaban with only 3 states in the region.

Southwest:

Nigerians are parochial by nature. Jagaban will win his home region, with Lagos hotly contested between him and Peter Obi, which Peter Obi won in 2023. Atiku Abubakar will retain Tinubu's home state of Osun, while Ekiti will come under pressure for the ruling party if Fayemi joins the consolidated platform as expected. Nevertheless, Ahmed Tinubu will win the votes of the Southwest region.

Southeast:

This is Peter Obi's domain. He won here decisively.

Expect nothing to change here from the 2023 edition. In fact, expect him to deliver a victory in the 90+ percent range, the daily attacks by Tinubu's paid supporters wherever they find space notwithstanding. The exit of strong Tinubu supporters like David Umahi from active politics in the Southeast and Hope Uzodinma, now in his second term, further weakens the APC in this region in favor of the PDP and Peter Obi who are expected to be members of the rumored coalition.

South-South:

Peter Obi officially won 3 of the states in the region in 2023, Edo, Delta and Cross River. We believe he also won in Rivers State, which was stolen by Nyesom Wike's influence.

As in Lagos State, the massive Igbo population easily determines the votes in Rivers State. Nyesom Wike, a political Igbo hater, is not only physically gone from Rivers State as governor, he is currently in political muddy waters with his protégé, the governor of the State, in the contest for the political structure of the state.

Governor Sim Fubara will be looking to defeat anything Wike that will be an albatross on his second term bid. Expect the PDP to do very well in a PDP legacy state, Rivers, but Peter Obi's influence will convincingly win Rivers State for the coalition if he participates. Ad Rotimi Amechi is still a positive factor for the coalition, albeit a very strong one, if he joins.

Godswill Akpabio was not able to help Tinubu carry Akwa Ibom state in 2023, he is not expected to do so in 2027. Likewise, Oshiomhole failed in his bid to wrestle Edo state away from Peter Obi in favor of APC in 2023.

Should the PDP succeed in reversing the obviously rigged Edo gubernatorial election over to PDP at the supreme court, a toll order I must confess, it is game over for Cape Verde in-law. This being the case, Tinubu will find it very difficult, if not impossible, to carry any of the South-South states in the 2027 election.

Conclusion:

So, I know this is complete nonsense and baby crib analysis or permutation, if you will, for the president's supporters, but I'm not sure if that's going to be the narrative in their private WhatsApp group chats and meetings.

They will share and attack this post, unless of course their handlers here signal otherwise for tactical and strategic reasons.

Of interest to me is how do you expect Tinubu to win an election against this coalition without the usual frontal rigging and INEC vote manipulation.

On what achievements or indices should President Tinubu run a successful campaign and in what states do you see him truly winning against a possible coalition of his opponents, Helinues?.
