I don't understand why one person's negative experience in Canada should be used as a yardstick for every other Nigerian living in Canada.

He left Nigeria to school in Canada. Didn't he count his costs before embarking on that capital intensive venture? Where is this mentality of 'as soon as I arrive in Canada, I start picking money from the streets' coming from? Or that it is the responsibility of the government of Canada to take care of them once they run into hardship as international students? It doesn't work that way. Some Canadian citizens are equally having tough times too, and not many of them have access to social security. A number of the Nigerian international students I have met so far have dumped school and gone actively into using drugs or heavy smoking of marijuana. Then they start dancing to imaginary music. They can't work, so no money. I don't even want to go into what most of them do to get money to fund the habit or how/where they live. My line of work pretty much brings me in contact with those that have gone delinquent.

agree! Couple with the fact that over 640 million Nigerians have died in the last two months due to insecurity and poverty. A whooping 780 million Nigerians can’t afford to feed and cloth themselves and are suffering on the street of Lagos. Nigeria is hell! Better to become homeless and die of cold and depression in Canada than to be a dangote billionaire in Nigeria. At least your people in Naija will know you’re abroad and that’s enough respect as it is

Bear in mind, social life is also very important to one’s mental health.

For example I met a man who told me he sold everything to come to Canada as a visitor.

We were talking as brothers and I told him, how long do you hope to stay? What if you don’t get a job or papers in time, what are your plans? He told me he didn’t have any plans yet, that he just wanted to see how he could get a stay. I then told him; do you know you can be shuttling between here and Nigeria while looking out for opportunities? He said he knew, but insisted there was nothing for him in Nigeria.

He actually said he would rather stay, suffer and die than go back to Nigeria. Not even my explanation that he would not be able to access medical help or any benefit moved him

By this, the UK, Germany, and most especially France are not ready to be a first world nation. Aside from Poland and Hungary, most countries in Europe are battling with immigration issues. Canada has been a first world country for years, yeah they got it wrong at some point but they will definitely bounce back.
Canada suffers from the same problem most developed countries are suffering from, even the US is just bouncing back from a terrible 4 year run by Biden, my friends in the US complain daily about how expensive groceries are.
Canada is having her election this year, I am sure things will change, the country is already seeing huge changes in terms of immigration policies.
